Bionic Eye that restores sight partially could be a reality by 2014

B.Sameer Kumar:

The possibility of restoring sight, even if it is only partially, to the clinically blind is a huge breakthrough and doing it using a bionic eye could very well usher a new era in Ophthalmology. Things seem to be running on course at the Monash Vision Group (MVG) of Monash University in Australia in their attempt to create and implant the first bionic eye. The lab Down Under has announced that early test results for the proposed micro chip that will be used in the bionic eye are “extremely positive” and at this rate the bionic eye could very well be a reality by 2014.

NASA and Boeing fly towards supersonic aircrafts with reduced sonic boom

B.Sameer Kumar:

Remember the Concorde? Shelved now, it was an iconic flight that enabled you to cross the Atlantic in a jiffy. And obviously what allowed the Concorde to do so were its ‘supersonic flight’ capabilities that allowed it to go faster than sound. The Concorde could achieve speeds of 1350mph and compared to the conventional airlines flight speed of 550mph at full throttle, it was really a blur. The Concorde was hugely popular and while safety issues in the later years forced it to stop taking flights, there are many who would still love the comfort of being able to go from New York to Paris in three and a half hours. NASA and Boeing are currently doing their best to ensure that this becomes the case with every aviation flight by 2025.

Technologies that use human body as power source

B.Sameer Kumar:

Remember ‘The Matrix’? A system controlled by machines that use human bodies as giant energy producing batteries. The concept might seem spooky to some and difficult to accept for others, but when plugged in using the right technology, human body indeed has the ability to generate considerably huge amounts of power; power that is currently going waste. This is no science fiction from Hollywood. This is not hypothetical technology that is still centuries away. It is real and it is already taking shape. Every breath that you take, move that you make, every single time your heart beats and blood gushes through your veins, every single one of those is an energy producing opportunity for modern science.

Do not freak out though as we are not turning you into giant batteries. In a world plagued by energy generation issues and limited fossil fuel sources that will run out sooner than later, smart energy creation is essential. And here are some breakthroughs that lead us on a path where one day we can charge up our ‘gizmos and gadgets’ all by ourselves…

Sony and Kasabian engage in a virtual football contest enacted by real players

B.Sameer Kumar:

You must have seen and heard of those football managers who are constantly in the ear of the players and shout out instructions in an animated fashion all too often. Not everyone is going to sit on the bench chewing gum like Sir Alex. But how would you like to shout in the ear of every single player out there on the field, quite literally? That is what the latest gaming concept from Kasabian along with the help of Sony and Umbro achieves. This one-of-a-kind match played out between Kasabian’s front-man, Tom Meighan and England football player, Darren Bent, allowed the two to control a bunch of real players on a re-sized soccer field using their Xperia Play smartphones!
