Microsoft streamlining efforts on new home automation OS

Microsoft researchers have been working for many years on their home-automation OS and are testing a prototype in a few of homes. In a new white paper published by Microsoft on Microsoft research site, they have divulged details on how their HomeOS will work to make home automation a reality. More than ten years back Microsoft executives were touting a futuristic home where smart devices would be able to interoperate and communicate.

Fujitsu’s new technology allows any smartphone to shoot in 3D

In recent years, the chance to see 3D images in film and television is growing. There are number of smartphones available in the market today if you want to take 3D videos. But because not all have 3D phones, Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. has developed a technology that can capture 3D video camera with cell phones and smartphones regardless of whether the phone has a 3D camera or not. They are working on a new way for phones that have one camera to shoot 3D videos – which generally require two cameras.

World’s thinnest Optical Disc Drive introduced by Samsung

Admittedly, the optical drives are almost dead, but that does not mean that CDs and DVDs will disappear overnight, so the manufacturers like Samsung will not fail to take advantage of a business model that although disappearing still has a good market share. Samsung announced SE-218BB, optical disc drive measuring only 14 millimeters, thinnest in the world. SE-218BB is 18% thinner than the standard DVD writers and 8% lighter than other Samsung’s DVD writer.
