Instagram All Set to Allow Posting of Group Stories

Instagram is testing out a new feature that involves postingstories to specific groups. This came to light when the company’s researcher, Jane ManchunWong, took to Twitter to share some screenshots. It looks like the optionwill be at the same place where you share your usual stories. But there’ll bean additional option to share the story with a specific group.

Instagram already has a ‘Close Friends’ feature which allowsyou to share stories with a specific set of people. This is more like anaddition to that. The stories will be sent to a specific that you want to shareit with. Imagine a scenario wherein you have a group of die-hard foodies andyou’re at an exotic restaurant. Rather than sharing it with your whole friends’list, you can simply share it with your group.

Facebook had this feature but shut it down merely nine months after its introduction. They are hoping to get better reception of the same feature on Instagram.

Instagram has had quite a few cool updates in the past few weeks. Honestly, the most exciting one among those updates is the dark mode. There’s no confirmation as to when it is coming out, but the latest Android beta build of the app had it. So, it must be coming out soon. There’s no toggle to switch between dark and light mode. But the app will use the theme that the system is using, meaning if your phone is in dark mode, the app will also be.

Instagram Threads

Another new and exciting addition is the new Threads app. It is a different app altogether with huge emphasis on privacy and close friends. The app is almost exactly like Snapchat with the ability to send short videos or photos to a select group of friends. People can also share statuses to let their friends know about their daily activities. Direct messages appear in Threads as well as on the app. You can download the app now for iOS and Android.

5 Cool Three Man Chess Boards

Let me be very honest here, I hadn’t heard about Three Man Chess until very recently. But after hearing about it, I’ve been hooked to the game. We usually play chess and one of my friends will always be waiting for the game to get over so that he can play the next one. He is so elated now that he can also join in. A three man chess board is basically a chess board for three people to play at once and it is a hexagonal board. Instead of the conventional 48 cells, there are 96 quadrilateral cells.

Rules

The starting position of the game is similar to that of normal chess. We have 8 pawns in the second row. Then we have the rook, knight, and bishop on either side of the king and the queen. Even most of the standard moves from chess are present in three man chess as well. This includes white starting first, the two-step option for the pawn, castling, en passant and promotion. The game ends when as soon as any one player is under the checkmate condition.
But there are some rules that are special to this game. This is due to the fact that the board has three pentagonal sections that join at the center. So, the moves for the rook, bishop, and knight have to be monitored when approaching the center. The movement is similar to real chess, only that we’ve to check which cell to move in to.

Let’s summarise the special moves:

1. If a queen or bishop moves along the long diagonal, they will change colors.
2. A knight has the conventional (2,1) jump, but it happens in an orthogonal fashion. First, two steps are taken orthogonally in the same direction and then one step orthogonally to the side.
3. The king or queen on the fourth promotion can move diagonally to one of the three possible cells. A pawn can move to the same color only.
4. A pawn that is in its fifth promotion has the ability to move to any diagonal direction as well as orthogonal direction. But the pawn cannot re-enter its home section of the board.
5. A player can be a stalemate, and he loses his turn. But he is still subject to checkmate by his opponents and his other pieces can be captured.

Chromebook to get Google Assistant with Update 77

Google is now rolling out version 77 of their Chrome OS and there are quite a few new changes. The most significant changes are the addition of Google Assistant and Virtual Desks to the OS. Apart from the new features, a host of other bugs have also been taken care of. You can view the complete list of bugs here. Let’s walk through the new features and see what it brings to the table for a Chromebook user.

Google Assistant now available in Chrome OS

I already hinted at the fact that you will now be able to use Google Assistant on your Chromebook. You can enable it by saying ‘Hey Google’, as usual, or from the Launcher. Enabling the assistant will allow you to do a lot of things like controlling your music, setting reminders, controlling smart devices at home, etc.

Google has been trying to get the Google Assistant on as many devices as possible. This way, it can get better with time using their proprietary machine learning techniques. A small section of users have already been using it through the beta build, but now Google has brought it to the stable channel.

Automatic Clicks have the ability to scroll

You might not be a stranger to Automatic Clicks wherein the OS does the clicking for you if there’s an inability or discomfort to use the touchpad. It is present in the Accessibility menu and makes the mouse pointer click when left stationery for a period of time. A blue circle appears over the mouse pointer and shrinks to show when the click is going to happen. With the new update, users can now scroll using the Automatic Clicks feature.

One place for all your media controls

I always have several tabs open and sometimes forget which one has media playing in it. With the new update, users can click on the bottom right of the screen to access media controls that give you control over any kind of media playing across your Chromebook.

Virtual Desks

Virtual Desks is similar to the Mission Control on macOS. Users can choose and group several windows and apps together for convenience. Virtual Desks give you a bird’s eye view of all your open apps and windows on the top portion of your screen and it is extremely easy to switch between spaces.

Add Screen Time easily with Family Link

The parental controls also get a slight bump with the new update allowing parents to add more screen time when it’s running out. This will be of use especially when your kids are behaving well and deserve some sort of recognition.

I know all these features are exciting, especially the new Virtual Desks and Google Assistant integration. Please note that all Chromebooks may not be eligible for the update as of now. How to Clean Your Microwave With Angry Mama

Cleaning a microwave is one of those tasks that you have to do, but necessarily don’t want to. I’ve had a very bad experience with a microwave some time back. I had left a utensil with food inside the microwave and within 3 days, it had some kind of growth on it and the whole microwave was stinking. Even after cleaning the whole microwave over and over again, the smell didn’t go away. Today, let’s take a look at some innovative methods on how to clean your microwave with Angry Mama. We will also compare it with the traditional approach of cleaning a microwave and why this is so much better.

How to clean your Microwave: The Traditional Way

There are several traditional methods on how to clean your microwave. The most famous one has to be using vinegar. But before you start cleaning your microwave, please ensure that the power cord is unplugged. If there are any removable parts inside the microwave that you can remove, please remove them and clean them separately.

Using Vinegar and Baking Soda

Fill a microwaveable tray with water and tablespoon of vinegar and microwave it for about 3-5 minutes. Once the steam covers the insides of the microwave, clean it using a piece of cloth/sponge.

Using Commercial Cleaning Solutions and Soap

There are three more methods that are commonly used to clean microwaves. One is to use lemon juice. Cut a lemon and place it face down on a microwaveable plate with a bit of water. Heat it until the inside is steamy and you can use paper towels to wipe the insides of the microwave clean.

Another option is to use a commercial cleaning solution that is meant to be used as a microwave cleaner. The one big advantage of using these solutions is that they don’t smell bad. Using vinegar and baking soda can leave a bad odor which can get frustrating for some people. But the disadvantage is that it might be hard on your skin and the fumes from these commercial cleaning solutions might not be that safe for your body.

Yet another option is to use dishwashing soap. This will also leave a pleasant odor inside the microwave and can be done exactly like how we did it using vinegar and baking soda. Mix some amount of dishwashing soap along with water and place it inside the microwave. Heat it until the inside is steaming and then wipe off all the dirt using a piece of sponge or paper towels.
