Bioshock Film Director Has Moved On, Project On Hold

Despite recent successes (or rather not quite failures) in the video game to film adaptation arena, it seems friction between franchise holders and studios will still scuttle the occasional blockbuster franchise’s cinematographic ambitions. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, originally slated to take on directing duties for the Bioshock movie announced four years ago told The Playlist that he is no longer involved with the project.

45-Foot-Long Paper Airplane Needed a Helicopter to be Launched

What’s the biggest paper airplane you’ve launched? I’ve noticed that they tend to get a bit flabby when you use bigger sheets of paper, but that didn’t stop the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona, from trying to fly a 45-foot-long paper airplane.

A helicopter was used to lift and then launch this jumbo paper airplane that had a 24-foot wingspan and weighed 800 pounds. It was part of the Great Paper Airplane Project and it successfully completed its maiden flight. It hit a top speed of 98 mph at an altitude of 2,703 feet.

Aeronautical engineers were inspired by the design of a 12-year old Arturo Valdenegro’s paper airplane, which beat hundreds of others in a regional paper airplane distance contest.

Robot USB Hub: No Transformer But Still Cooler than Yours

USB hubs can be slightly boring, especially when you go through them quickly. It’s one of those pieces of hardware that easily breaks down due to either cheap construction, the constant plugging and unplugging of devices, or both. That being said, there’s no reason why you can’t have fun the next time you replace yours. Here’s a Robot USB Hub that might make you chuckle a bit while you plug in your peripherals.

Robot Hub sitting down

When the little robot sits down, you get full access to the 4 USB ports it hides while standing up. Otherwise, you can play around with it while something loads on your computer. The LED eyes act as “indicator lights” which I assume light up when there’s data being transferred – or possibly just when devices are plugged in. Or maybe when the robot is getting ready to attack you.

Better yet, according to the photo above, there will be Tapas. Delicious Robot Tapas. I can only imagine ball bearings in spicy tomato sauce. The Robot USB Hub is also nice and cheap - Focalprice sells these for $5.79 (USD) each. What’s not to like?

Mad Men 8-Bit YouTube Game: NintenDo-nDraper

This interactive 8-bit-style YouTube game uses the choose-your-own-adventure ethos to prepare you for the next season of Mad Men. It was created by The Fine Brothers with music and animation by pixel artist Doctor Octoroc (Levi Buffum).

The game lets players determine Don Draper’s actions as he seeks to solve his problems. There are three possible endings, which can be explored by the order of the tasks that he needs to complete. After viewing a short animation, players will be given a choice of actions that brings them forward in the story.

It’s a pretty cool way to prepare for the debut of the fifth season of Mad Men, which will start tonight (3/25) on AMC.

Warm On Keeps Your Bathwater Hot (And Keeps You Happy)

The water is perfect a few minutes after running my bath, but as time passes by, I find myself getting colder and colder as the water temperature drops. By the time I finish a chapter in my book and get ready to step out of the bath, I’m a few degrees away from my shiver point.

Designers Sunmi Hwang, Hyunjoo-Lee, and Jiwon-Seok have come up with a neat solution to keep your bathwater warm in the form of Warm On. It’s a set of pebble-shaped water heaters that have sensors to determine the current water temperature and heat it up so that it always stays at that temperature.

The designers explained that their inspiration for the Warm On was based on how the magma from underwater volcanoes can heat up entire lakes or ponds.

The designers didn’t provide any information about where the Warm On system will get the energy to heat up the water or how they can be charged or re-charged. That’s a huge kink that they’ll probably need to address and figure out, but they definitely came up with a fine concept to solve a common issue.
