Here’s what you need for a fingerprint reader in Android Marshmallow

Google made sure that the Nexus 5X and 6P take advantage of Android Marshmallow's fingerprint reader support, but have you wondered what it'll take to get that digit scanning support in third-party hardware? You don't have to guess any longer. Go...

iFingerLock: a Padlock with an Integrated Fingerprint Scanner

Padlocks and combination locks are useful on a fairly regular basis, but they both can be rather annoying. I’ve bought far too many padlocks because of lost keys between uses, and it’s not really practical to go swimming with a key when you want to lock up your valuables at the beach. Combination locks solve those two problems, but you have to actually remember the number and the interface is annoying if you have a good one. If you have a bad one the mechanism just rarely works.

That’s why this very expensive ($114.99 USD) solution called iFingerLock is actually pretty appealing. It just reads your fingerprint and unlocks, or reads someone else’s fingerprint and fires poison darts at the thief doesn’t unlock. You can load up to nine accepted fingerprints onto the lock, so it could still be used by families and organizations. Of course, it does have the potential annoyance of running out of electricity, because it’s powered by a pair of AAA batteries, but it does apparently give users tons of warning.

iFingerLock Biometric Padlock Doesn’t Need Keys Or Combination

If nothing else, the Touch ID sensor on the newer iPhones is getting people used to the idea of using their fingerprints to unlock things. The trend carries over to other items, like this iFingerLock Biometric padlock. It can store up to 10 fingerprints, unlocking itself in seconds as soon as one is used. There’s no need for a computer, all the programming is done on-device. Should the 2 AAA batteries run out of power, it still stores the prints in its internal memory, while an alarm will ring when power is low to save you the hassle of having to run to the store when you’re at the gym or something. It’s a simple way to avoid having to carry a key around, or worse still, remembering a combination. It’s $94.

FiDELYS Smartwatch: The Eyes Have It

There’s a good reason for biometric security, since it ensures that most of your information on your devices or computer doesn’t get stolen or swiped too easily. Using your eyes as your password is the stuff of science fiction and spy movies, which is why this watch is so cool.

Iritech’s FiDELYS smartwatch gets paired with your phone, and allows you to interact with incoming calls, text messages, and other functions. It also has a built-in camera that will have an iris recognition capability, meaning that you could unlock your device with your eyes, freeing your from entering a passcode. The device will also tie to your computer or smartphone, providing iris-based authentication for websites and applications.

The watch offers Bluetooth Low Energy and NFC wireless support, as well as a heart rate sensor, pedometer and wireless charging. Instead of using a touchscreen, you’ll interact with the watch clicking on the outside of its bezel.

The FiDELYS smartwatch will be launched through an Indiegogo crowdfunding project soon, with a pre-launch price of about $250(USD) – a $50 discount off its planned retail price.
