One of the good things about participating in competitions is that you get to challenge yourself and push yourself to the limits. Like Yves Behar told me when I spoke with him, “winning awards and competitions is like an icing on the cake called hard work.” He should know better, he and fuseproject have won so many of them! For now, we have one big opportunity coming up with the 2012 Taiwan International Student Design Competition. Submissions are welcome in Product Design, Visual Design and Digital Animation categories. Check out the details inside.

UPDATE: Rules Modified!
There are three ways you can get famous with Electrolux this year. You can either participate in their Design Lab Competition (deadline June 1, 2012) or the ‘work in progress’ Pinterest competition or BOTH! The Design Lab gives you a chance to win prize money and internship at the Electrolux Design Center and the Pinterest competition wins FIVE creative folks Fame and an Electrolux Powermix Mini Compact Blender. Details after the jump.
The Electrolux ‘work in progress’ Pinterest competition is simple. If you have any sketches that are a ‘work in progress’ and warrant attention, simply submit it to their Pinterest board. Ten creative projects will be shortlisted and these will go on to adorn a special wall at the main Electrolux Design Lab Final Event.
Yanko Design will pick FIVE of the best and these will win the Electrolux Powermix Mini Compact Blenders!

Yanko Design was invited to attend the 2011 red dot Product Design Gala in Germany and the awards ceremony for the design concept winners in Singapore and we witnessed the energy, the enthusiasm, the glory of winning, upfront. Seriously, a red dot is all it takes to catapult you to instant fame! The 2012 red dot award: design concept is now in its regular registration phase but you can get a complete fee waiver for pre-judging entries. Exciting!
We will give you all the details on the 19th of April 2012, between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. PST on how to enter this competition and get the fee waiver. For now all you need to do is decide on which category you want to enter. No immediate design submissions required. Just look out for the Free Registration window that will open up on the April 19th.
Yanko Design has a ringside view for the competition this year and we are super excited! Our publisher Takashi Yamada is one of the honourable jury members and will be a part of the judging process in Singapore.
Once again, don’t forget to tune in on 19th April 2012, between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. PST for the free registration.
