The Spin Bottle Opener is your next functional fidget toy

If you are looking for reasons to justify your need to fidget and acquire more things to play with, then the Spin Bottle Opener is the right toy for you. Designed to resemble the classic spin top, which we all have grown-up to and loved – this metal beauty notches up the appeal by being an efficient bottle opener. I love the way Nicholas Baker integrates a groove to accommodate the bottle-opener niche. Milled out of aluminum, Spin is built to last and to amuse you endlessly, every time you spin it!

“I’d been wanting to design a bottle opener for about 3 years at this point. I’d come up with previous designs, but found them to be extraneous and they didn’t seem to push the idea of a bottle opener. While exploring bottle opener ideas in VR, I thought it would be interesting to constrain my design by using the revolve tool. This gradually led me to create a spun form and add a handle. The resulting form resembled the classic spinning top toy. It felt like a perfect juxtaposition of functional object and a playful fidget toy,” Nicholas Baker tells YD.

The world’s tiniest bottle opener and multitool is deceptively small

The TiBO is small enough to be underestimated. Roughly the size of your thumbnail, it’s easy to dismiss the TiBO as something that’s too small to be useful… but it’s also a wildly inaccurate thing to do, because at just 21.5mm in length, the TiBO is the smallest multitool, packing a bottle opener, a flathead screwdriver, and a prybar into its deceptively tiny footprint.

Conceived in 2016, the TiBO went through its share of design iterations before it reached what it looks like today. Optimized for performance, compressed to perhaps the smallest size a bottle opener has ever been, and made from Grade 5 Titanium, the TiBO sits on your keychain, barely occupying much space. With a name that’s a portmanteau of exactly what the product is, the TiBO is your handy, easily accessible Titanium Bottle Opener that’s sure to make its appearance at parties, out on the beach, or at the campsite when one of your friends invariably struggles to find the bottle opener they’re pretty sure they had. The very tip of the TiBO works as a flathead screwdriver too, allowing you to become an instant handyman when you want to tighten a loose screw around the house, or you want to pry open that can of paint, or even use as a makeshift box-cutter.

Weighing less than a gram (0.9g to be accurate), the TiBO is best paired with WynLABS’s Kii RING, a novel keychain ring designed for easy key-switching, and as a perfect partner to the TiBO. At just 21.5mm long and strapped with your keys, the TiBO is the most convenient way to have a bottle-opener/multitool on you, and with a Grade 5 Titanium construction, it’ll quite easily be on your keychain for generations, outlasting practically every key it hangs beside!

This titanium multitool nails the basics

james_brand_halifax_1

The James Brand was established for the pure reason that there are some problems that involve getting your hands dirty. Some solutions involve having the right tool on you and the Halifax was designed to be a solution to some pretty basic problems. Its simplistic design comes machined from a single titanium billet, and has a design that’s easy to hold, store, and even operate.

The Halifax comes with three rather rudimentary functions that you’re bound to require a tool for. A flathead screwdriver on the front lets you loosen or tighten screws on your gadgets and outdoor equipment, while its solid titanium construction even lets you use it as a scraper, taking tough coatings off surfaces like a knife moving through butter… all without getting a single scratch. Right underneath the tool also lies a bottle-opener with a rather interesting cap-holding design detail that stands out in its chrome finish.

Bottle Opener that Puts your Barkeep to Shame

The Cap Snap asks the question, why use two hands to open one bottle when you could use two hands to open TWO bottles?!

The simple water-jet cut piece of metal weighs a meager 11 grams and can be placed in your pocket strung along your key-chain. When needed, the Cap Snap can be operated single-handedly by just placing it on top of a regular bottle cap and with the simple push down on the lever that extends off the top. With an action that’s literally easier than working a hand-grip, and more suave and responsible than busting open a bottle on a counter-top, the Cap Snap lets you open bottles when you’ve only got the one free hand, or when you want to work both hands opening bottles like an absolute pro.

Available in Aluminum, Stainless Steel and Titanium variants, the Cap Snap comes cut from a sheet of metal using a water-jet, ensuring precision as well as allowing for much less material loss and faster production runs than CNC machining. The 2D design fits easily into the pocket along with your keys and other EDC, and its curves ensure your hand never gets tired no matter how many caps you pop!

ONEOVERSIX Can Open Six Beers At Once

How many beers can you open at once? One, maybe two? What are you, a sucker? Think about all the valuable minutes of your life your wasting by opening one beer at a time. You could be using that time to spend with family, or reading more OhGizmo!.

Thankfully, someone made a beer opener that’s the size of a pizza peel (that’s the actual name of the large paddle they use for pizza, who knew?), that can open up to six beers at once. It’s called the SIXOVERONE and It’s designed to fit a standard six-pack of bottles, so you can have your buds ready before anyone has time to second-guess that next beer.

It’s a cool idea, but I’m just not sure how well a stamped piece of metal can hold up against six under-pressure bottles of beer, like from a physics standpoint. Of course, I don’t know how much force is required to remove a bottlecap and whether the force required grows exponentially as the number of bottlecaps increases.

Available on Kickstarter for $25. But seriously, it’s called a pizza peel? All my life I’ve been calling it a paddle.

Hit the jump for more glamour shots of the SIXOVERONE. (Seriously, this thing has better promotional images that most products by major companies.)

Open Your Bottles with a Beetle

I don’t know what it is about horned beetles, but I find them quite creepy. I think it must have been that scene from The Mummy where one crawled under the guy’s skin, or when thousands come crawling out of the ground in The Mummy Returns. Yep, that must be it. But if you’re not creeped out by these creatures, then you might be interested in this bottle opener.

Made by Fred, the Bottle Beetle looks just like an horned stag beetle, but in this case, it’s made of gold-tone zinc alloy, and capable of popping open a cold brew with its mighty horns.

You can grab a Bottle Beetle over on Amazon for just $13(USD). Let’s just hope it doesn’t decide to crawl under your skin.

A bottle opener for champions

I never thought something as ubiquitous as the bottle opener needed redesigning. The GrOpener proved me wrong for sure. The video above goes to demonstrate how incredibly easy it is to open a bottle with just a single hand, without bending the cap, or have it flying off in a random direction once it pops open.

The GrOpener (Grab+Opener) is designed specifically for single handed use. Making things easy for both abled as well as disabled people, the GrOpener sits comfortably on a bottle top and pops it open with an unbelievably easy trigger action. The GrOpener’s design makes sure the cap isn’t bent or warped in the opening process, while a magnetic piece within the GrOpener catches the cap as soon as it dislodges from the bottle neck. Well, now unless you’re Bruce Lee with a pair of nunchucks, I don’t see you opening a bottle better than that!

Deal: Save 20% on the Bundeze Bandit Multi-Tool Wallet

While I’m personally not a huge fan of minimal wallets, I have to say I dig the idea of the Bundeze Bandit wallet. That’s because its design serves more purposes than just slimming down – it puts a portable tool kit in your pocket whenever and wherever you go.

The durable anodized aluminum card holds up to 8 cards or 30 bills in place using a stretchy elastic cord, but when you remove it, you’ll find that the card has a variety of wrenches, and holders for 1/4″ drivers built in. It even comes with a bit for driving phillips and flat-blade screws.

This makes it super versatile, and gives you an emergency tool that’s ready at a moment’s notice. In addition, the card has a built-in bottle opener, which I’m sure will come in handy within days of buying one of these.

Best of all, the Bundeze Bandit wallet isn’t expensive. You can grab one over at the Technabob Shop for just $19.99(USD) – a $5 savings off the regular price.
