For The Sake Of A Clean Shave

One of my earliest memories of my father has been to watch him carefully follow the protocols of his shaving rituals. Needless to say, when my brother was ready to try his hand, my father proudly shared his techniques and even gifted him his shaving mug as if it were a family heirloom. NotOnlyWhite Bathroom

If you are looking at re-doing your bathroom then have a look at what Dutch designer Marike Andeweg has conjured up HI-MACS. The versatile material has been used the basin as well as fixtures, aptly titled the Air, Box and Light. Sporting gentle, fluid geometrical forms, the Box consists of a sophisticated single or double HI-MACS oval basin, accompanied by the practical and orderly counter containers in oak wood.

The Box Base Light handrinse is a collection designed to fit into small bathrooms and the collection expands with the inclusion of Noon, a New Generation Natural Acrylic Stone basin with generous, round shapes.

Edit is a small, slim cabinet designed to accompany the series of compact basins, Base, Blend, Form and Kuub. The Stripp is an L-shaped wall-mounted shelf made of HI-MACS and the highly comfortable bath tub Axis and Verse, the free-standing cabinet with its incorporated shower head and taps rounds up the series.

Holy Smoke!

C-Thru is a helmet that is designed to help firefighter walk through dense smoke during smoke diving search and rescue missions. Time constrains of six minutes per mission, makes it imperative that the gear is optimal. C-thru gives them the edge thanks to the wire-frame vision of the interior geometry, surrounding the smoke diver. Using technological enhancements, the helmet provides a visual map of the interiors so that it becomes easy for the firefighter to locate the victims.

This is how it works:

C-Thru’s vision system integrates many technologies to aid firefighters, such as a head-mounted projection display, optical thermal camera, cloud computing, selective active noise cancellation and target acquisition.
The optical thermal camera captures the imaging of the surrounding area and sends the data to the smoke diver leader’s handheld device.
The data is calculated there and sent back to the helmet.
Newly generated 3D wire-frame data is projected by the head-mounted projectors through the retro-reflective front visor of the helmet.
This wire-frame outline of their surroundings helps firefighters find a path through the building and locate victims.

One-hand Washing

The Angel Faucet is specifically meant for those folks who have lost an arm. Apparently stats show that folks with this kind of impairment find it difficult towash their hand properly. The sensor-activated tap is integrated with a scrubbing pad that allows you to scrub and clean the single hand effectively.

The pad is made with soft silicon, and can be removed for cleaning. The flow of water through the tap stops when the user moves their hand away from the faucet outlet to the scrubbing pad.

Angel is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.

I love the passion that drives designer Mohammad Mahdi Azimi, he dishes out great Nokia concepts even in the troubled times of this erstwhile phone giant. Let’s take a look at his Nokia LUMIA Watch concept. With features like pressure indicator, compass, altimeter, GPS, Calorie meter, 4G LTE and syncing with the Lumia series of phones, this one is a good competition for the iWatch, what do you think?

Toasting By The Color

Hue is a toaster that toasts bread according to the shade you choose. The toaster apparently harnesses the power of an array of color sensors via a simple interface, in order to intuitively and smartly toast bread to that perfect shade of golden brown. Basically the sensors keep the heating element on till the bread reaches the shade of brown that you desire. So instead of working on generic number of toasting like 2,3,4 etc, the toaster uses your specific shade for reference. Perfect!
