The hyperbolic paraboloid is what the shape of a Pringles chip is called. Not many people know that but for our knowledge, let’s remember the term of the shape that looks like a saddle.

This shape is also the inspiration for Roi B, who designed the T-Cord Chair. Using 60mm steel pipes and 56 tension chords, a chair has been created and ready to offer a feeling of warmth and comfort. This chair design is implemented, but only ten pieces have been made. It’s a limited release which makes every piece special.

The designer is passionate about art and metal. His knowledge allows him to construct this conceptual design into reality. The designer is also a welder, so he knows how to come up with objects that work and are durable.

The hyperbolic paraboloid principle is the base of this chair. A similar shapre will remind you of a potato chip—if not, a saddle. Technically speaking, the shape combines parabolas (vertical) and hyperbolas (horizontal) cross-sections. This isn’t the first time the shape is used in architecture and structural design, but it’s nice to see it on a smaller scale.

The design looks complicated but making it seems effortless. You only need to use tension chords as the chair base and backrest. Roi B said, “I absolutely love blowing minds with a product that is undeniably high in quality and comfortable at the same time.” We believe this one is comfortable and durable that you don’t have to worry if the chair can carry your weight. The steel pipes and the cords are enough to offer durable seating. The tension cords are weaved to allow strength and airflow. Not that breathability is needed, but it’s good to know this chair can be ideal for lounging and outdoor use.

The T-CORD Chair can be considered a sculptural furniture piece. It’s an interesting piece that can efficiently work as a conversation starter. It’s guaranteed to capture everyone’s attention because of the intelligent design—just like the designer’s other works. Of course, the technique could be something you could do independently, but there is physics behind this.

A new sofa is ready to make things fun and quirky around the house. The Pinsofa, just in case, you can’t figure it out yet, is a pincushion. No, we won’t expect you to stick pins on the sofa, but the special seat is a life-sized version.

The Pinsofa is a playful furniture piece that will make you remember your childhood. Having one in your house will probably make you think of those times when you imagine you’re smaller and everything is bigger around you. Your “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” dream will become a reality with the Pinsofa, but everything is just for fun.

Those objects that appear giant or super-sized can make you feel really small. It will make you think you’re young and everything will be all right. This cute sofa can be considered as an abstract piece. It features wooden pins that function as legs. They appear as if pierced through the soda, but they are there for support. The circles you see are the “pinheads” that can also serve as armrest and backrest.

The seat section features two layers of foam underneath a fabric. There is a plywood structure while the legs are supported by metal fixings. It can be screwed so it’s also easy to assemble and disassemble.

Designer Demeter Fogarasi is the same guy that introduced the poetic furniture Frozen Textile Armchair. He was inspired by the needles sticking out of his needle pillows for this creation. He shared, “Walking through the studio with beautiful sunshine coming through the windows, I discovered a new beauty in the needles sticking out of my needle pillows. This was my very first impression – I told myself this was so inspiring that I should be working with it.”

The Pinsofa is made of ash wood and the usual fabric upholstery material. It measures 7x178x64 cm and is actually an old design. It’s also a decade old, but we still like the design, and we believe it is timeless. It’s also contemporary but can bring you back to the old times when you were carefree and without worries. Have one placed in your living room and enjoy short moments when you can be who you used to be when you were little.

It is easy to dismiss the Arch Chair as just another lounge chair, but it’s not. This chair designed by Girelli Studio is only a concept, but we can already imagine this being displayed in posh hotel lobbies or luxury homes worldwide.

Girelli Studio’s work appears structural but then is soft with the curves and the natural wood finish. It offers a cozy feeling to anyone who wants to sit on the chair. The design makes it a statement piece ideal for those who like one-of-a-kind chairs.

The Arch Chair can be a good conversation starter. You will not stop talking about the lines and structural form. It’s more of a chair for lounging with its height and size. It has a slanted seat surface and a backrest made of plywood.

This new chair design is mid-century, but it also reminds us of Japanese architecture, especially with the lines. It blends different shapes to produce a minimalist chair with an architectural influence. The solid chair is a nice piece of furniture. Anyone who will encounter the chair for the first time will find it beautiful.

The Arch Chair looks like a modern rocking armchair, but it doesn’t really rock. The studio behind this, Girelli Studio, is a multidisciplinary design studio that is into product design. It’s also a design consultancy that focuses on industrial design.

The chair design blends different shapes together. Overall, the chair offers a minimalist and architectural feel. Again, we see the Japanese design influence, so you know where the minimalist aesthetic comes from.

The Arch Chair rendered images show us the chair is available in darker colors–brown and black–plus a red Arch Chair has also been presented. David Girelli’s design studio has worked on several other furniture pieces. For example, he came up with the Ryokō Armchair we featured last year. It also presented some Japanese design inspiration, especially an old Japanese folding chair from the 1960s.

We have seen a number of equally stunning and interesting chair designs recently. There is the Migo Chair designed from a single wood board. The Tippi Chair is meant to tilt and tip at a comfortable angle. The Please Hold Up Chair remains light and playful. The Meditation Chair is set to offer space and calmness while the Nodding Chair allows you to slightly rock your seat while reading. On some levels, this one is like the 3D-printed Central Knot Chair for its elegant lounge chair appeal.

The Migo Chair is another perfect example of what Covid can do. No, this isn’t something the virus had infected but a fruit of those times when people were asked to stay at home. The designer has personal reflections during the pandemic’s early days, and the result is the Migo.

A chair is an essential piece of furniture. Admit it or not, you can’t get enough of getting aesthetically pleasing and well-design chairs. The latest to be added to your list of interesting chair designs is the Migo which works both as a chair and as a side table.

We can’t really say which is the front or back but you can use the chair in several ways. The material used is American red oak so you know it can be very durable. What makes this more interesting is that it can be cut from just a single plank of wood, giving off a consistent grain. A chair made from a single piece of material also offers less wastage.

The Migo Chair was made in BENCHMARK’s workshop and was showcased at The Design Museum in London. Designer Pascal Hien for an exhibition called Discovered by Wallpaper and American Hardwood Export Council. It was created based on one’s perspective and experiences during the lockdowns because of Covid.

BENCHMARK is a British furniture design-build company. It was founded by Terence Conran and Sean Sutcliffe and has been helping many designers bring their designs come to life. Craft and craftsmanship are highly valued by Benchmark. The Migo’s production process just proves that as every detail is meticulously checked. It also demonstrates sustainability and wellness and keeps the legacy of making.

You can sit on the Migo Chair in either direction. You can use the upper part as a desk. You can probably put your laptop there when you need to finish work or when you need to send a quick email. It offers support when you’re tired or leave it as an accent chair in the living room. Its shape is unique so it can also be a conversation starter.

Furniture items don’t always have to be made of wood. They don’t also have to be made of marble to be considered elegant. There are plenty of other materials that can be used that will give almost the same comfort, style, and impact.

Another material is polyurethane foam, as per an experiment that resulted in the PLEASE HOLD UP chair. The experiment was started as a way to check the possible structural capabilities of UP 40 polyurethane foam. Using a single material, the Please Hold Up was created. It’s only one of the many prototypes that are deemed to be successful.

The Please Hold Up presented the correct proportions between a good structure and a chair. It is made of polyurethane foam UP 40, a relatively new material. The new high lift polyurethane foam is said to have been made using a variable pressure process.

As described, the char is made by operating two horizontal blade cuts. It comes in a boxy square shape and is very light. At first glance, it looks like it’s made of concrete, but it’s not.

The chair was designed by Stefano Bassan and Gianluca Sigismondi Finemateria. The design studio has always been into coming up with ideas and evoking emotions and memories in relation to the materials. The studio wants to tell stories by helping visualize processes, materials, and cultures. The Please Hold Up Chair by the designers is a result of a material-experimental process done right.

Please Hold Up is a significant project, but it’s not the only one that uses polyurethane foam. There have been previous projects that use the same material. Those AusAir’s botanical facemask’s outer covers were made from flexible polyurethane foam. Cold polyurethane foam injection was used for the Kokkode egg-shaped chair. The Squiggly Seating boasted stress-resistant polyurethane foam on a metal frame.

Please Hold Up is a very light chair that appears to be fun and friendly. This furniture piece brings together aesthetics, form, and design. The uniqueness of the material allows the chair to show off soft geometries, a sculptural look, and durability. The chair is lightweight, but it can serve its purpose without compromising the quality—thanks to the polyurethane foam UP 40.

We see the Please Hold Up Chair in different styles and heights. There are chairs with a high backrest, while some have a low backrest. Others have nothing, so they appear to be more like stools.
