Rimowa and La Marzocco partner to create the most stylish espresso machine

Coffee machines and luggage aren’t necessarily two things that you think of that go together. Sure, when you travel, you get to experience different kinds of coffee places but you don’t necessarily lug around all your coffee paraphernalia. Well, some people actually do, but they’re the exception. When it comes to design though, coffee machines and expensive luggage aren’t really that distant so it’s interesting to see what a collaboration between two brands of those categories would look like.

Designer: Rimowa x La Marzocco

Look no further as we’re getting a Rimowa x La Marzocco Linea Mini coffee machine that brings the best of both worlds into a limited edition product. The exterior features the classic aluminum groove look and silver steel that we’re used to seeing in Rimowa suitcases but this time it’s used in the Linea Mini, a professional-grade kitchen-scaled espresso machine. Most of the parts of this machine are crafted from anodized aluminum. In fact, each of the machines are handcrafted for around 40 hours in Florence, Italy. The grooved panels were actually built in the Rimowa factory in Cologne and then assembled and installed by hand in La Marzocco’s workshop.

When it comes to features, it’s your typical espresso machine that can give you your much needed caffeine fix. Only this one has more style because of the addition of Rimowa’s signature look to what’s already a pretty stylish La Marzocco aesthetic. Both of them have their branding on the base and the frame of the machine. The minimalist aluminum feel plus the bespoke accents like the hot water tap and knobs gives off a very high-end Italian coffee shop vibe.

The Rimowa x La Marzocco Linea Mini was displayed at the recently concluded Milan Design Week. You can apparently already pre-order the machine although it’s not indicated how much and where you can actually place your order. Because these two brands are coming together, expect that the price to own a stylish espresso machine will be steep.

Hear me out – A Coffee Machine shaped like a Coffee Bean is kind of a brilliant idea

You are what you eat, they say… surely the Bean Coffee Machine eats a whole lot of coffee beans, am I right?! A clever visual redesign of the standard coffee machine, this particular appliance by Juliana Juleva tries to make the ubiquitous coffee-brewer instantly recognizable. The way she does it is by making the machine look like a giant bean from afar. Look at it and even if you’re not a coffee drinker, chances are you’ll recognize exactly what it is and what it’s used for. The intuitive design is further complemented by an intuitive user interface, which employs a simple yet large touchscreen to help you brew the perfect cup of coffee ever. Place your empty mug, tap a button, and wait for the giant bean to give you a cup of pure bliss!

Designer: Juliana Juleva

The Bean Coffee Machine doesn’t try to be too fancy. It doesn’t look overtly industrial, or too high-tech like something Apple would have designed. Instead, it tries to opt for visual familiarity by taking inspiration from the shape of a coffee bean. The machine comes with an oval shape, sporting broad and gentle curves that make it look as smooth as a roasted coffee bean. It’s propped up vertically on four legs, and comes with a relatively simple front surface that has the interface on top, and a dispenser at the bottom.

Using the Bean machine is incredibly intuitive too. A transparent window on top lets you look into the machine’s coffee storage, letting you know if it has enough supply of roasted beans. If not, all you do is load fresh beans in, and you’re ready to brew. Right underneath the window is an interface that has the simplicity of a menu card. Tap the kind of coffee you want Bean to brew and it gets to work. The coffee gets dispensed right into your cup below, letting you choose from multiple options from the classic flat white or americano, to even more eclectic options like a decaf.

The Bean comes in 5 colors – black, white, bronze, silver, and our favorite, metallic brown. Sure, everyone’s entitled to having a coffee machine that complements their tastes and interior decor, but the metallic brown Bean just plays to the visual metaphor perfectly, and it kind of does look like an instant classic too, if you ask me personally. The machine was designed for a Russian coffee brand, although it hasn’t hit the market yet.

Revolutionizing Coffee Brewing with Centrifugal Extraction and Precision Control Technology

The term “revolutionary” is often overused whenever a new product is announced. However, it’s rare for a product to live up to such a label truly. One that does is the iPhone, and the reasons for this are well-known. The coffee brewing machine industry is a significant global market. In 2020, it was valued at approximately $6.36 billion and is projected to grow annually by 7% from 2021 to 2028. The Keurig coffee maker is the most popular machine so far, and it is known for its convenience and wide variety of flavors. But if you desire more than a quick cup of coffee or yearn for a variety of flavors that extend beyond a pod, the KUKU Maker is for you. It’s a revolutionary machine that combines high-tech brewing and extraction features with the satisfying experience of old-school hand-poured coffee. Let’s delve into the details, making it the most innovative coffee maker ever.

The KUKU Maker allows for customized extraction parameters, giving you complete control of the extraction pressure, temperature, grind fineness, and extraction time. The outcome for traditionalists ensures their needs are met if not exceeded. Still, modern coffee brewers can’t even come close to achieving this for the adventurist looking to boldly brew into new territories.

KUKU Maker uses centrifugal force to generate pressure, which makes it possible to maintain a stable extraction pressure throughout the extraction process, regardless of the state of other parameters.

Streamlining the coffee-making process and brewing great tasting coffee is what the KUKU Maker does best. You no longer have to manually prepare the coffee puck or invest in extra resources for even water flow through the coffee grounds. This is due to the machine’s use of centrifugal force to distribute the coffee powder along the funnel’s wall. There’s an open water chamber and a funnel for coffee powder, which can be removed. The funnel rotates at high speed, pulling water from the chamber into the funnel. This creates pressure through centrifugal force. During brewing, the water rises into the funnel from the high-speed rotation, passing through the coffee powder evenly due to centrifugal force. This automation removes the need for manual tasks like tamping down the coffee grounds, preventing issues such as channeling, and ensuring a more consistent coffee extraction process.

You have the flexibility to use ice water or room temperature water directly for extraction, or you can employ KUKU Maker to swiftly heat room temperature water to your desired temperature before initiating the extraction process.

The size of the coffee grinds plays a vital role in the coffee-making process as it affects the amount of time the water interacts with the coffee grounds, ultimately impacting the brew’s flavor. For instance, coarser grinds are best suited for methods requiring longer extraction time, such as the French press or cold brew. The larger particle size allows the water to extract the coffee slowly over several minutes, resulting in a well-balanced and flavorful brew. On the other hand, a finer grind is ideal for an espresso or a Moka pot, where the water passes through the coffee quickly under high pressure. This rapid extraction process requires smaller coffee particles to ensure that the water can extract the coffee’s flavors efficiently. With the KUKU Maker, you can effortlessly adjust the grind size to match your preferred brewing method and taste preference.

Another way to assert your control over how your coffee tastes is to customize the size of the coffee grinds from very fine to very coarse. You can adjust each setting separately, so changing one won’t affect the others. Varying the temperature and pressure settings allows you to experiment with the grind size to bring out different flavors in your coffee. So, even if you don’t get the grind size right, you still have a tasty cup of coffee and experience new flavors.

Room Temperature Espresso

Between the tangy and sweet extremes, there’s a world of flavors to explore, such as floral, nutty, or earthy notes. The ability to adjust multiple parameters with the KUKU Maker opens up a world of possibilities, letting you craft a coffee experience that is uniquely yours. These flavors are improved by a brushless motor and intelligent software that control the extraction pressure. The pressure can be altered simply by adjusting the motor speed. Furthermore, you can select the desired rotations per minute (RPM) during extraction, ranging from 3000 to 7000 RPM. The motor will immediately adjust its speed to match your selection.

The KUKU Maker is a multifunctional coffee device that can quickly make not only cold-brew coffee but also cold-brew espresso.

The temperature of coffee extraction affects its flavor and aroma. Cold brew coffee is made using lower temperatures and longer extraction times. It is prepared by immersing ground coffee in cold water for 12 to 24 hours. KUKU Maker can make a cold brew in just two minutes using ice water. Alternatively, you can use room-temperature water for extraction or heat the water to your preferred temperature using electromagnetic induction heating technology. This advanced method allows you to brew the perfect espresso in under 50 seconds with 60 ml of water. If you prefer an Americano, heating 300 ml of water takes about 4 minutes.

The KUKU Maker offers a unique way to control the strength of your coffee. Using cyclic extraction, you can adjust the water flow through the coffee powder to personalize your coffee experience. This machine provides flexibility for adjusting the concentration of your coffee grounds, allowing you to brew a perfect cup to suit your taste. Cleaning the KUKU Maker is a straightforward process. Start by pouring about 100ml of water into the water chamber. Set a cup on the drip tray to collect the rinse water. Activate the machine’s toggle or select the clean button on the KUKU Maker APP to start the auto-cleaning mode. Within 20 seconds, any lingering stains will be rinsed out through the spout. Your KUKU Maker is now clean and ready for your next coffee brewing session.

Unlike traditional espresso machines, the KUKU Maker is easy to maintain. Conventional machines often require frequent cleaning and part replacements, particularly the brewing head, which is crucial for coffee extraction. Over time, you might need to replace small parts like the rubber ring to avoid clogging and potential taste issues. Cleaning out the Coffee grounds is relatively quick and simple since they’re only contained in the removable powder funnel, not the water chamber. Its minimalistic design, featuring only a coffee dispensing spout, reduces the chances of breakdowns. Therefore, it requires less upkeep than traditional coffee makers. Its body is made from corrosion-resistant, food-grade stainless steel and aluminum alloy, and it is IP65-rated to protect its electronic components from damage in humid environments. The machine also features a multiple Hall sensor solution with sealed Hall switches for durability. Additionally, it has a hidden display to reveal information during operation, designed to prevent damage from humidity or impact.

Zen-inspired aesthetic coffee maker concept may give you a peaceful morning

One of the best ways to start the day is by enjoying a cup of coffee when you wake up while things haven’t started becoming busy yet. But a lot of times, I wake up late and hurriedly go through my morning routine and sometimes I’m not even able to grab that crucial cup of caffeinated goodness. What if the things that you use for your morning (or evening) coffee routine is something that can bring you an added source of peace and tranquility so your day can actually start (or end) right?

Designer: Suckhand Saren

This is the exact idea behind the concept for a set of coffee makers aptly called Zenbrew. The goal is to achieve a zen-like mood while you’re brewing your coffee and while you’re sipping your cup in peace. Using a combination of minimalist design, elegant aesthetics, and of course much needed functionality. The designer wanted to elevate what is simply the act of brewing coffee into a “sensory experience” but keeping it simple, elegant, and peaceful. The main design inspiration is the hourglass which is not always a symbol of zen but when combined with the minimalist aesthetic, it actually fits the concept.

There seems to be two kinds of coffee makers in the concept. The first one is closer to the usual coffee maker that we see in the market with the carafe with the handle but with a glass dome at the top where the brewing magic happens. The other design seems to be a combination of a pour over device and a bunsen burner. The carafe is a bit smaller and with a straight handle rather than a curved one. Both designs also have a futuristic, space-like feel which may also contribute to the other worldly zen you may experience while brewing and drinking your coffee.

While having coffee makers as aesthetic as this will not guarantee I’ll have a peaceful morning, it might actually help me get up earlier. Having a nice coffee maker, along with delicious coffee beans and other ingredients, are sometimes enough incentive for me to try and have an unhurried morning routine. Wake me up when this concept actually gets made into coffee machines.

Revolutionary coffee machine lets you make coffee exactly the way you want it

There might be jokes about being the golden brown fuel that runs the world, but coffee really has a special place in many people’s daily routines. Of course, that doesn’t mean everyone enjoys coffee in exactly the same way. There are people who are fine with quick instant coffee, much to the horror of connoisseurs, as long as they get their caffeine fix. Others, however, have developed very particular requirements to satisfy their taste buds as well. Different people also like different types of coffee, from espressos to drips to hot to cold, and sometimes even the same person likes different brews depending on their mood. It’s difficult to find one machine that can deliver all of those, especially for home use, but that’s exactly the kind of ground-breaking innovation that this revolutionary coffee machine offers, giving users full control over the brewing process so that they can have the coffee they want the way they want it.

KUKU Maker uses centrifugal force to generate pressure, which makes it possible to maintain a stable extraction pressure throughout the extraction process, regardless of the state of other parameters.

Baristas make it look too easy, but there’s actually a science and an art to brewing the perfect cup of joe. It’s not just the grind size that affects the way coffee tastes but also variables like water temperature, extraction pressure, and more. Your run-of-the-mill coffee machine usually only has one or a few presets for these in order to simplify the process, but that also takes out much of the fun and the power away from true-blooded coffee lovers.

You have the flexibility to use ice water or room temperature water directly for extraction, or you can employ KUKU Maker to swiftly heat room temperature water to your desired temperature before initiating the extraction process.

Enter KUKU, a genius design that lets you have consistent traditional coffee when you need it as well as easy, customized brews when you want it, all thanks to a combination of cyclic extraction and centrifugal force. That flexibility comes from KUKU’s ability to let you be in control of those variables, namely extraction pressure, temperature, time, and, of course, grind size. And best of all, you don’t need to adjust all of those when you don’t want to. For example, you can preset temperature and pressure while only adjusting the grind size to anywhere between superfine to extra course. And if you happened to select the wrong grind size, you aren’t punished but are instead rewarded with a new flavor you might have never discovered on your own.

Room Temperature Espresso

The KUKU Maker is a multifunctional coffee device that can quickly make not only cold-brew coffee but also cold-brew espresso.

Unlike other coffee machines, KUKU uses centrifugal force to generate pressure, and thanks to an inductive brushless motor and intelligent control algorithms, you can precisely define how that happens. Go from normal atmospheric pressure to high pressure or from 3000 to 7000 RPM speeds in a snap, controlling this variable to meet your preferred brew’s requirements. The temperature of the water used during extraction also has a significant impact not only on the taste of the coffee but also on the aroma, and KUKU gives you the freedom to use whatever kind of water you need. Pour crushed ice or ice water for your icy cold beverages or get room temperature water heated to your preferred levels. With electromagnetic induction heating, it takes less than a minute to heat 60ml of water for an espresso and 4 minutes for 300ml of water for an Americano.

With all these powerful features, it comes as a pleasant surprise that you don’t have to be a veteran barista to use KUKU. Your favorite type of coffee is just a single toggle switch away or, if you prefer the hands-free approach, a few taps on the KUKU mobile app. You can even download recipes from the app and try out different profiles made by coffee experts and champions. And at the end of the day, you don’t have to stress over the mess thanks to an easy cleaning process that will help keep your machine in tip-top shape with very little work. Whether your caffeine fix is a cold-brew espresso or you find joy in expertly crafted recipes, the innovative KUKU coffee machine gives you all the control you need for the perfect cup and the flexibility to experiment and discover a whole new world of flavor in every brew.

With Steampunk Espresso Machine coffee lover will savor the rich flavors and embark on visual journey through time

In the run-up to the pinnacle of the specialty coffee market, Steam Espresso has remained ahead of the curve, designing espresso machines that brew the perfect cup of joe. If the specialty maker were to embark on a journey to redesign its espresso machine, it would definitely foray into the age-old charm of steampunk.

When you think of espresso machines, the first thing that comes to mind might not be the romance of a bygone era. Yet, designer Ahmet Kemal Daşhan is determined to change that perception with its Steampunk Espresso Machine for Steam Espresso. This visionary project finds its roots in the rich history of both coffee roasting and steam-powered technology.

Designer: Ahmet Kemal Daşhan

The heart of steampunk aesthetics lies in its celebration of brass fittings, exposed gears, and vintage charm. The designer understands that espresso machines, with their intricate mechanisms and mechanical precision, are the perfect canvas for this artistic transformation.

So, he has imagined an espresso machine adorned with brass fittings that gleam in the soft glow of ambient light, inviting you to embark on a journey through time. Exposed gears, reminiscent of a bygone era’s mechanical marvels, not only serve their functional purpose but also add a touch of authenticity to the experience. Vintage aesthetics, carefully curated to transport you back in time, create an ambiance that is nothing short of enchanting.

The marriage of steampunk aesthetics with espresso machines results in an enthralling experience that transcends the ordinary. This fusion of two worlds, seemingly distant but intimately connected by their historical roots, creates a unique and captivating narrative for coffee lovers. With each cup brewed from the Steampunk Espresso Machine, users will not only savor the rich flavors of their favorite blends but also embark on a visual journey through time. It’s an experience that would transcend the mundane and elevate the act of brewing coffee into an art form!

Portable capsule coffee machine lets you be caffeinated in automated cars

Just a couple of months ago, we went on a road trip through the Southern part of New Zealand where the drive for each leg was around 5-6 hours. So of course we had to keep our driving friends awake and alert the entire time. We had some occasional breaks but in the car, everyone had to stay awake. There were times when I wished there was some caffeinated machine with us in the car that could make coffee at will whenever we needed a jolt. This design for a vehicle coffee machine is probably the first step towards having something like this eventually.

Designer: Junseo Oh

DOTS is a design for a portable coffee machine that primarily works if you’re in an automated vehicle but can also be used in other on-the-go scenarios. It has a removable bottom so it can adapt to whatever or wherever you’re using it for. It also uses coffee capsules instead of the usual brewing method to make it easier to use. The capsules are placed on the top and replaced by removing that part. Water is stored in the cylindrical space at the bottom. We assume this also boils the water or at least keeps it warm for when you need to start the process.

There is also a control or lever in the machine which lets you adjust the intensity of the extraction method from the capsule since coffee drinkers have different preferences when it comes to that. The machine comes with a tumbler where you can place the coffee directly. It has a lid on top to secure your liquid and you can also place a straw on it, although sipping hot liquid with a straw seems a bit weird.

While it’s primarily designed for vehicles, the portability of the DOTS machine lets you bring it with you whenever you may need a caffeine break. It has a minimalist and space gray feel so it can match most car interiors. I would love to have something as portable as this especially when traveling somewhere that may not have that good of a coffee culture.

LG’s Insane Lunar Lander-inspired Coffee Machine Uses Two Pods For Nuanced Flavor

Developed by LG Labs, the DUOBO is exactly the kind of ground-breaking innovation you’d expect from the company that brought us rolling TVs, swiveling phones, and a bunch of other crazy gizmos. Shaped like something you’d find Mars, the DUOBO is a space-inspired coffee machine that outdoes your Nespresso in both the looks and the functionality department. By allowing you to extract from two coffee pods at the same time, DUOBO lets you build unique coffee blends by letting you be your own coffee connoisseur. The machine works with all standard-sized coffee pods, allowing you to use your existing Nespresso, Keurig, or Starbucks pods to create blends that you couldn’t ever make before. The machine expertly controls the flow from each pod, calibrating water temperature and quantity, and layers coffee from the two pods sequentially to build your two-shot espresso that you can then enjoy in a variety of drinking styles!

Designer: Duobo of LG Labs

Click Here to Buy Now: $399 $799 ($400 off). Hurry, only 86/250 left!

The first thing that stands out with the DUOBO is its unconventional design. Most coffee machines blend in (no pun intended), but the DUOBO chooses to stand out instead. Its design takes inspiration from the 1969 Apollo 11 lunar lander, with a form that features a space module-shaped coffee machine standing on three legs. Underneath lies the DUOBO’s platform, which comes with a display that guides you through the process (and even provides some occasional entertainment), a 500ml water reservoir, and the powerful CPU underneath that precisely controls how your coffee is brewed, extracted, and layered.

Simultaneous Two-shot Blending – First capsule coffee machine ever to extract two coffee capsules at the same time!

Watching the DUOBO brew a cup is just about as awe-inspiring as watching a moon landing. The coffee machine isn’t like your boring, blockish Nespresso or Keurig. It actually moves up and down, adjusting its height to match the height of the cup you put under it. The three legs help the DUOBO effectively shift on a vertical axis, adding a never-before-seen drama to the ritual of making coffee. The coffee machine’s ‘space hatch’ then pops open, revealing an area for placing two coffee pods. Secure the pods and the hatch closes shut; and once you hit the ‘Brew’ button, the machine compresses in size as it uses pressure to extract coffee from the pods. The coffee is dispensed from the bottom, and the empty pods emerge shortly after, waiting to be discarded. It’s possible that you’ll find yourself getting addicted to watching the DUOBO in action rather than actually cultivating a coffee addiction!

The DUOBO’s design cleverly highlights its separate functional areas. The coffee machine itself resides in the top half, along with the ‘docking station’ for your two coffee pods. Pop open the hood or the ‘space hatch’ and you can add pods of your choice in their receptacles. Once closed, you can make adjustments within the DUOBO’s smartphone app and directly command the machine to begin brewing coffee with the press of a button either on the DUOBO or on your smartphone. The lunar lander-shaped electronic barista gets to work, heating the water to the precise temperature for each individual pod, and sending the water through a cleverly designed valved system to extract the coffee from each pod. The coffee gets dispensed from the lower surface of the machine (where you’d expect the lander’s afterburners to be). Place your cup on the display built into DUOBO’s base platform, and the coffee dispenses right into it, giving you two shots of intensely flavorful, crema-laden golden glory.

The DUOBO’s brains lie in its base platform. The CPU inside the base handles the entire procedure, heating water up to temperatures of 80°C and controlling the flow of the water to each pod individually. Even though the DUOBO has space for two pods, you can choose to only use one pod for a single serve of espresso and the machine instantly calibrates itself accordingly. The DUOBO outputs up to 19 bars of pressure, which helps it efficiently extract coffee from the pod as well as serves it well during maintenance and cleaning modes.

The base of the DUOBO also comes with its own 10.1-inch IPS Full HD display that doubles up as a nifty entertainment center while you’re waiting for your coffee to brew and get extracted. Designed to make the wait time as fun as what follows after, the display automatically plays fun videos and animations as you patiently wait for your cuppa. A touch-sensitive panel right below it helps you operate your DUOBO, letting you adjust your coffee machine’s height, choose number of shots, and whether you want an espresso or a regular cup of black coffee.

The DUOBO stands at 13.3 inches in height, occupying roughly a square foot of space on your table or kitchen countertop. It supports Bluetooth 5 as well as 2.4Ghz WiFi, and comes with a free app to let you control your coffee brewing experience. The app also lets you view expert curations for your own inspiration, and even allows you to directly buy coffee pods right within the app itself. Available at an early bird discount, the DUOBO starts at $399, and comes with a 1-year warranty that covers replacements, repairs, and refunds.

The xBloom’s true magic really lies in how it handles each task expertly and with sheer consistency. The coffee machine boasts a professional-grade grinder with 48mm Titanium Nitride coated conical burrs. With 20 automatic grind size adjustments, it delivers the perfect grind for not just pour-over style coffee but also other creative coffee-brewing techniques like cold brew, ice drip, etc. Each step in the grinding process is as precise as 18.75µm, ensuring consistent results every time. The grounds are then dispensed back into the empty pod, which features its own built-in filter lining.

Magical Pouring Patterns

While grinding has mostly been an automated process, the act of pouring the hot water onto the coffee grounds is something baristas prefer doing on their own, with their own flair, pouring styles, and patterns. The xBloom’s extraordinary design can mimic these different pouring patterns, delivering a true barista-like coffee experience that extracts the right notes from each kind of coffee bean. Once the coffee machine grinds and dispenses the coffee back into the pod, the pod moves over to the pouring station, which can mimic a straight pour, a slow spiral pour, or a rapid spiral pour, depending on the roaster’s curated recipe to help extract the best flavor profiles. The laminar water stream, electrostatically controlled by four energized electrodes, creates a curved flow of water that seems almost magical. Meanwhile, a weighing scale built into the pod holder lets the xBloom know when to slow down the pour, just in case the water overflows from the pod. It’s truly a captivating sight that adds a touch of enchantment to your coffee-making ritual.

Expertly Curated Coffee Pods

As it must have been evident by now, the xBloom follows the popular pod-based model, but with a remarkable twist. Instead of pre-ground, pre-flavored coffee powder, each xBloom pod contains 15 grams of actual coffee beans, carefully measured for a single serving. These pods are curated by xBloom’s partner program featuring expert roasters, offering a diverse range of special coffee types from around the world, along with roaster-picked recipes that get activated when you tap your pod on the xBloom… giving you expertly brewed coffee in the comfort of your home or office. xBloom’s Curator Program invites leading roasters and coffee-masters to design their own pods too, offering limited-edition drops that users can occasionally try. You can buy additional pods on the xBloom app, which also lets you customize recipes… or use your own existing coffee beans along with xBloom’s reusable dripper cup that’s compatible with Kalita Wave 155 filters.

The xBloom was created by a team of tech veterans, including former Apple product designers. Every aspect, from its sleek exteriors to its high-quality internals, reflects the same level of sophistication seen in Apple’s own products. This isn’t your average coffee machine… it’s a beautiful symphony of art, technology, and magic!
