LEGO Doom Cacodemon: Brick Lightning

We already saw a fan-made LEGO Cacodemon in Iain Heath’s Doom diorama, but this MOC by Flickr member Jerac is as gory as the game and really nails the look of the lightning-belching monster. Jerac says he had to resort to “illegal techniques” such as cutting and bending pieces to create the Cacodemon.

Let’s go to Jerac’s Flickr page and stare at Doom Guy’s guts some more.

LEGO Animatronic Coin-Op Machine

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen a LEGO machine like this. It’s a custom built animatronic coin-operated machine and it is a lovely sight to see it in action. Just put your coin in and watch the little LEGO people come to life.

The whole thing is basically a construction site. It’s one of those things that the kid in us loves to watch. The seven animatronic items are:

  1. Crane moves up, down, left, right, with the joystick
  2. Backhoe is lifting a section of the water pipe up and down
  3. Mining car goes in and out of the tunnel
  4. Welder is welding away at the base of the crane
  5. Worker spins around as he helps put in the water main
  6. A jewel/cave robber and his friend are working the same mine as the construction workers
  7. Dumptruck lights flash as the crane loads him up

Check it out in action in the videos below:

You can buy it for $6,500 (USD) from Etsy seller All Things Pretty Store.

LEGO Game of Thrones Wall: And Now My Minifig’s Watch Begins

Game of Thrones fans will recognize this diorama straight away. It’s the Wall and Castle Black from the popular HBO series. The massive snow and ice construct from the series was recreated here with lots of white bricks.

wall 1 620x404magnify

I don’t know exactly how many white bricks it took to build this, but I would guess all of them is about right. In the center of the wall is the lone wooden door and a knight on a horse is trotting out to the North to his demise.

wall 4 620x465magnify

Up on top of the wall you see a minifig of Tyrion Lannister with his LEGO Johnson out peeing off of it. That is a great touch. The LEGO wall was built for a convention of some sort in Italy. Not only was the Wall on display, but the entire continent of Westeros was represented.

The Diorama to Endor All Ewok Dioramas

November 1st was Ewok Appreciation Day. Yeah, it was new to me too. C-3PO must have started it so he could be worshiped. Ewoks first appeared in 1983 in the movie Return of the Jedi. Many fans did not like them since they were obviously there for the kids and for Lucas to make toy money, though they’ve sort of grown on some folks over the years.

David Mizejewski celebrated Ewok Appreciation Day in a unique way. He made an elaborate Ewok diorama using the Ewok toys from his youth – a whole lot of toys!

Basically he recreated Endor. It is very impressive indeed, with many scenes throughout. There are amazing details everywhere. This guy REALLY loves Ewoks. Hit the link for more amazing yub nub!

LEGO DOOM is a Game That Should Happen

Forget cutesy LEGO games like Indiana Jones, I want LEGO DOOM. I loved DOOM on the PC, even though it scared the crap out of me regularly and made me jump like a child. I think DOOM is one of the most memorable of all the shooters I played back in the day.

Iain Heath (aka Ochre_Jelly) is a fan of both LEGO and DOOM, and he used those two loves to create some awesome dioramas. Everything from the  monsters in the game to the hero are recreated complete with flying fireballs and more. That cacodemon is incredible.

LEGO Bastion: Superdwarf Game

Ain’t much Matt De Lanoy can’t handle with LEGO and creativity in hand. Matt aka Pepa Quin built this sweet diorama based on one of the early levels in Bastion. Matt built it as part of his Iron Builder entry.

Doom Knee Deep in the Dead Diorama: 3D Cover Art

The late Don Ivan Punchatz’s cover art for Doom is as memorable as the game itself. Gaming Heads immortalized the illustration with this badass resin diorama. It’s called Doom: Knee Deep in the Dead, and it comes in two variants. The Exclusive Edition has pulsing lights inside its base. The floor is lava!

As you can see it’s a near-perfect representation of the cover art, down to Doomguy’s awkwardly posed left hand. The diorama is made of polystone and measures 12.5″ tall and 17″ wide. It’s hand-finished and hand-painted and has removable bullet effects.

It would’ve been more awesome if the backdrop and the title were included in the diorama. The Doom: Knee Deep in the Dead Exclusive Edition is limited to 350 units and sells for $400 (USD), while the standard edition is limited to 750 units and sells for $375.

Bioshock Miniature Diorama Has Really Little Sisters

Filmmaker Andy Jarosz likes to make miniature sets in his spare time. He recently spoke with Game Informer to show off his latest work – a 1:26 scale replica of a set in Bioshock. Andy 3D printed the Little Sisters and the Gatherer’s Garden vending machine, but most of the pieces were made from “all manner of materials and tools.”

Here’s a screenshot of the scene in Bioshock:

Classic Video Game Paper Dioramas: 3D-Tinted Glasses

Alain Wildgen converts scenes from old video games to 3D artworks by hand. For each game, Alain looks for a good screenshot online and prints that on paper. He then adds depth to the scene by cutting the print into several pieces and using foam rubber to raise some of the pieces above the others.

Alain has made 18 3D dioramas so far. Take a look at some of his work:
