Swain’s Neck: Nantucket’s Most Expensive Estate Relisted for $47.5M after a Price Slash of $11.5M

Karanvir Singh:

Back in May last year, we reported about the most expensive home for sale in New England, America’s richest county, that is the Swain’s Neck estate which was listed for whopping price tag of $59 million. That 75-acre luxury retreat sited on Nantucket, an island 30 miles south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, which eventually went off the market in late autumn, has now again returned on the luxury real estate market after a price chop of almost $11.5 million. Now all of the world’s ultra-elites and avid-vacationers stand a chance to own one of the most coveted and one-of-a-kind luxury waterfront estate on Nantucket Island for just $47.5 million. However, the Swain’s Neck estate’s priciest listing tag for the vacation home had been grabbed by the Martha’s Vineyard property which went for sale in August 2012 at $92 million.

Impressively occupying a private peninsula, the sprawling Swain’s Neck compound is now being sold by the estate of Russel Dale Phelon, the late owner and president of R.E. Phelon Co., a South Carolina-based firm that manufactures ignition systems and engine electronics, who originally bought the vacation home back in 1977 for $7.15 million.

Comedian Bob Hope’s ‘Mushroom’ Estate in Palm Springs designed by John Lautner is Up for Sale at $50M

Karanvir Singh:

Widely renowned for rapid-fire delivery of jokes and one-liners and for his success in virtually all entertainment media, the British-born American entertainer and comic actor Bob Hope and his wife Dolores’ huge Palm Springs estate has now been listed for whopping $50 million. Designed back in year 1973 by the California-based noted Modernist architect John Lautner, this legendary ‘The Hope Residence’ is situated at the top of Southridge, overlooking the entire Coachella Valley with views to the Banning Pass to the North and Mount San Jacinto to the West. Described to be the largest private residence exclusively designed by John Lautner for the Hope Family, the 23,366 sq. ft home is truly an incredibly and impeccably designed concrete, steel and glass structure with a vast curving roof of copper that matches the mountains behind it. Interestingly, the roofline of the home likened to a giant mushroom, has been described as one of the most distinguished works of modernist architecture in the Coachella Valley. Speaking about the estates in Palm Springs, we have recently seen the sale offering of Merv Griffin’s 39-acre Palm Springs-area estate which comes complete with racetrack and horse stables.
