Lego Flintstones!

Sometimes the fans have the best ideas. Like this Flintstones Lego set that one Lego fanatic posted on the LEGO Ideas Site. They don’t make an official set, so he made his own set! Why don’t The Flintstones have their own Lego set yet? Because this little piece of Bedrock would be really awesome to have. First off you have the iconic human-powered car:

Then you’ve got Fred and Wilma’s house, they truly are a modern Stone Age family. Or at least they would be if there was a real Lego set made for them, like the Simpsons.

And of course what set would be complete without minifigs? There are custom designed minifigs for all your favorite cartoon characters- Fred, Wilma, Barney and Betty Rubble. Well maybe not all- no Pebbles, Bam Bam, Dino, or Mr. Slate?

Well done, great details on the mini-figs. This video has an interview with the creator of the set as well as showing all the pieces in more detail:

My message to the Lego people: why don’t you Yabba Dabba Doo this set for real?

Cook and Stack Kitchen Utensils

Cook and Stack UtensilsYes, please. This is really amazing way to save space in those cluttered kitchen drawers. Yes, you can get some kind of random jar to hold your utensils, but that’s what all of the regular old normal people do.

These are not utensils that someone just glued a extremely familiar shaped brick onto the end of a spatula. Those bricks are actually a part of the utensil. The set comes with the grey base plate, a spatula, ladle and pasta strainer. You can purchase this set for 34.99 here, which we feel is a little bit spendy. But if you are the chef in the house, this may come in super handy and should be well worth the expense.

Lego Style Bricks Speaker

Lego fans everywhere will love this Lego-like Bricks Speaker. The speaker uses NFA (Near Field Audio) to automatically amplify the sound of any smartphone with an integrated speaker that is placed directly upon it. No setup or pairing of any type is required. We demoed a similar NFA speaker here. Just put your phone atop it and sound comes out of the speaker. Bricks come in a variety of bright colors and you can also place your phone upright in between the pegs like so:

Taste the rainbow. There’s also a 3.5mm mini-stereo jack in case your device doesn’t have it’s own speaker or can’t be placed directly on the Bricks. You can power the device through batteries or a USB cable. It runs for about 10 hours on a set of batteries. Awesome. Everything is awesome.

Real Working Computer Keyboard Made of Legos

lego keyboard Real Working Computer Keyboard Made of Legos
Keyboards are boring, with their single color scheme and boring letters and numbers. So boring. So JK Brickworks decided to make a keyboard that’s actually exciting- by making it out of Legos. Can you feel the excitement? Try to contain yourself, friend.
lego keyboard right Real Working Computer Keyboard Made of Legos
He used a grid of Technic connectors and axles to get the keys to line up just right. As you can see above, not every symbol on a standard keyboard is exactly produced in a Lego brick so he had to improvise a little bit. Close enough. You got all the letters and numbers, that’s the main part.
lego keyboard left Real Working Computer Keyboard Made of Legos
Obviously the base is not Lego but it’s the circuitry from a regular keyboard. So it’s not entirely Lego, but all the keys certainly are. Here’s the front view. Awesome. Everything is awesome.

Ok Emmet, you probably want to see this keyboard in action and see what’s under the Lego keys, right? Then check out this video right here where it’s demonstrated:

See, it works. Awesome.

Ellen’s Oscar Selfie Goes Lego

Ellen-selfie Ellen Degeneres' selfieApparently, when Ellen DeGeneres asks us to do something we do it. As the whole world knows, Ellen took a selfie at the Oscars with some of the major movie stars in the audience. She asked everyone to retweet it so she could set a record. Which at 3,302,695 retweets on Twitter, we are sure a record was set.

Then we heard about this LEGO artist, Ochre Jelly (Iain Heath), who replicated the picture with LEGO’s. As you can see from the picture above it is not the ‘pre-made’ little LEGO dudes that you can buy and change up their hair. He actually created this one LEGO at a time. The time an effort that some people put into their hobbies is amazing.

Everything is Awesome: Giant Lego Emmet

If you haven’t seen the Lego Movie yet, go now! It’s awesome! You’re awesome! Everything is awesome! You know what else is awesome? This gigantic Lego mini-fig of Emmet, the star of the movie. We spotted this at the 2014 Toy Fair yesterday (at the Javits Center in New York City) and it’s made entirely out of regular Lego pieces. It’s at least 6 feet tall. Did we mention it’s awesome?!

Playable Lego Star Wars Pinball Machine

lego pinball starwars Playable Lego Star Wars Pinball Machine
This is by far the best use of Legos we’ve seen all year! Someone name Jimmy from France (who is way cooler than you or me) built a working Star Wars themed pinball machine entirely of Lego. The details are great on this too- from the R2-D2 spinner thing (that’s probably not the technical term, correct me please pinball geeks!), to the Death Star bumper, to the clear piece covering Jabba the Hutt’s underground lair.
lego pinball starwars closeup Playable Lego Star Wars Pinball Machine
It’s got Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Obi Wan, Yoda, Luke Skywalker, everyone you’d want and nobody you don’t (*cough* Jar Jar *cough*). The whole thing is outfitted with flashing lights all over the place and is actually playable as you can see in this video demo below:

Well Jimmy is certainly a better Lego creator and builder than he is pinball player. This is really so cool, why don’t they sell a real Lego kit just like this? (h/t)

Build Your Own Working Mario Kart Track with K’Nex

mario kart knex
It’s Mario Kart in real life! Get busy, really busy, building your own working track with Nintendo Mario Circuit Ultimate Building Set. This set uses 665 K’Nex building blocks to build a giant 5 foot wide track upon which you can really race Mario and Luigi. That’s 22 feet of track if laid out end to end (but why would you do that?) It’s huge:
mario circuit knex
That’s what she said. The Karts themselves are motorized and battery powered, so they can really zip around the twists, turns, and jumps of the track just like in the Wii game. Watch out for the included obstacles: sliding Piranha Plant, moving chain chom, and swinging Goombas. There are other sets and additional track pieces you can purchase too if you want to go even larger- if 5 feet isn’t quite big enough for you. Fun stuff.

Lego Millennium Falcon Cake

lego millennium falcon cake Lego Millennium Falcon Cake
It’s the crossroads of ultimate geekiness right here. Combining three of the key geek disciplines (Star Wars, Lego, and cake) is this Lego Millennium Falcon Cake from Cute Sweet Things. Inside that rebel ship is a chocolate mud cake covered with ganache and sugar paste. She pressed actual Lego parts (hopefully they were clean!) into the frosting to get that dotted Lego look. Excellent cake.
