Sony Walkman NWZ-A17

Sony Walkman NWZ A17Sony is jumping on the popular hi-resolution audio band wagon. Thanks to Neil Young’s Pono project, Sony doesn’t need to spend much on advertising.  Just google “hi-res audio” and Sony new toy is the first thing that pops up.

Young’s Kickstarter project was so successful, Sony probably thought “What the hell, lets give it a shot”. With that they will be releasing a new hi-res audio player at the end of this month, the Sony Walkman NWZ-A17. This device is smaller and lighter than Pono. The screen is bigger and will play all the popular formats; WAV, AIFF, ALAC, FLAC, MP3, AAC, and WMA.  It also comes with 64GB of storage. And to top it off the battery life is off the charts, 50 hours of battery life or 30 hours when playing full 24-bit/192kHz files

So, we suppose you are thinking “Walkman or Pono?” One more bit of info to pass along may be all that you need to make this decision; Pono is $400 while the Sony Walkman is $299.

Articulate Beats

I completely connect with the Le Pen concept, where the designer has tried to marry a pen with a music player. I still recollect those glory days when I used to solve math equations to the beats of U2 and Police. Somehow music helped me zone in and focus on those numbers. I’m sure many of you like to work with something strumming in the background, Le Pen takes an innovative approach towards that.

Winamp, the media player of your college years, is shutting down next month

Winamp, the AOL-owned mp3 player of yore, will close up shop for good on December 20th, which means you have exactly one month from today to use the service -- if you're still using it, that is. In addition to shutting down Winamp.com, AOL and co. will no longer offer downloads of the media player. It's hardly a surprising announcement, but it's a slightly glum one considering Winamp's popularity in the late nineties and early aughts. Go ahead, you have our permission to get nostalgic for a moment or two.

Bob Dylan Complete Collection Volume 1 to be available on a USB drive Stuffed inside of a Harmonica

I readily admit I’m not a huge music buff. I like to listen to some tunes when driving in the car, but other than that I’m pretty much music-free at all other times. My problem is that I can’t concentrate with any sound going on around me. On the other hand, if you’re a big fan of music and you happen to like Bob Dylan, you might want to get your credit card ready.

On November 15, a new collection called Bob Dylan The Complete Collection Vol 1 will launch. This particular box set will launch on CD, but music fans will appreciate that it’s also coming in a true lossless digital format. The entire collection will be available to purchase on a tiny USB flash drive. The music is on the drive in MP3 and FLAC formats.

That flash drive will come packaged inside of a case that looks like a harmonica. The album collection will also feature digitally-remastered versions of tons of Dylan’s best and most popular tunes. The little flash drive is packed with 35 different studio albums, six live albums, and a bunch of singles. This digital music collection won’t be cheap at a price of $364(USD), but if you’re a Dylan aficionado, it’s well worth checking out.
