Office Remote for Windows Phone lets you steer presentations from afar

Microsoft has long championed Windows Phone's Office integration, but there has been a missing piece in that puzzle: an official way to control Office from a Windows Phone. The company is filling that gap today by launching its Office Remote app. The Windows Phone 8 client lets users navigate Excel, PowerPoint and Word on a Bluetooth-equipped Windows 7 or 8 PC, offering slide notes and other cues you'll need for a big presentation. We can't promise that managers will be impressed when you steer a quarterly results briefing from your Lumia 1520, but it won't hurt to grab Office Remote today from the Windows Phone Store.

Evernote for Mac now offers a Presentation Mode as a premium feature

It's not just iOS and BlackBerry 10 users getting new Evernote apps this week; the company has now also released an updated version of its Mac app with one fairly big new feature. An all-new Presentation Mode will now let you share your notes with others and possibly eliminate the need to jump into Keynote or PowerPoint. Clicking the Presentation Mode button will naturally switch things to a full-screen mode, and give you the ability to move ahead in your presentation by tapping the spacebar; another new feature will let you use your mouse or trackpad as a laser pointer of sorts, with your cursor movement displayed as a glowing blue light. The only catch is that you'll need to be a Premium Evernote user to take advantage of the feature, although Evernote is offering a 30-day free trial in the hope that you'll pay up. There's no word yet on the feature making it to other platforms just yet, but Evernote does say that it's "available first" for Mac, so we'd presume others can expect it eventually.

Apple is taking a different, more cautious tack when it comes to security these days. That doesn't make it any less surprising that the company is planning to give a presentation at the Black Hat conference: the company will have someone on stage for the first time and won't just socialize in the corridors. When he takes to the podium on July 26th, platform security manager Dallas De Atley will go into detail regarding iOS' security measures in front of an audience used to finding a way around them. The company hasn't said whether that involves current or future technology; we suspect that Apple may be eager to show what iOS 6 brings to the table, however. If it all goes down like Black Hat general manager Trey Ford says it will, Apple may both open up a bit on security and set more of the agenda this week -- instead of letting conference goers set it themselves.

Leaked Xbox 720 document resurfaces, stirs up rumors of Kinect 2, native 3D, augmented reality glasses

A document passing itself off as an internal Microsoft presentation about the future of Xbox has surfaced, and is stirring internet chatter with its possible hints at the future of the console. Despite turning up online over a month ago and potentially dating back to 2010, a few things mentioned that have since come to fruition -- like SmartGlass -- are earning it more attention. The proposed developments include cloud-based entertainment, native 3D, augmented reality "Fortaleza Glasses," scalable hardware -- all by 2015. If that's too long to wait, however, the time line also indicates we'd be seeing the next generation hardware in 2013 for $299 (more precise and four-player ready Kinect 2 included). The Xbox 720 package described includes such pie-in-the-sky bullet points as Blu-ray and whole-home DVR features, all from a low-power always-on box built on a "Yukon" ARM hardware platform.

Of course, even if this is legit and not just some business student's exercise, all the talk of value propositions, OEM licensing and developer profitability are proposals that could have changed. Need more reasons to be skeptical? Digital Foundry points out the extremely optimistic wattages listed and previous appearances of the illustrations included. Ponder over the full 56-page document for yourself -- taking into account the bored minds on the internet that are capable of cranking out this kind of stuff, like that infamous Nintendo Revolution video -- after the break.

You think it's easy up there on stage? Then just try shouting "ubiquitous cloud computing era" at the top of your lungs without sounding silly. It's virtually impossible, as ASUS chairman Jonney Shih discovered 45 seconds into the video after the break. Fortunately, he quickly moved onto his company's rather stellar array of Computex reveals, including the dual-booting Transformer AiO (which doubles up as the "world's biggest tablet"), a couple of Windows 8 hybrids and the Taichi swiveller -- not to mention some live performance art ten minutes before the end. If you're the "Home C.I.O." in your family, then it could be professionally negligent to miss this.

Visualized Intel drops the curtain on 50 Ultrabooks at Computex keynote

Intel had a few nuggets for us at its Computex presentation today, but this being a keynote, there always needs to be a bit of pageantry. After a bit of on-stage gaming and a quick 30-second karaoke session, a stage-wide curtain dropped to the sound of a buzzer, revealing 50 nondescript Ultrabooks, each displaying the words "Thank you!" in both English and Chinese. We'll likely be back with hands-ons with some of these devices later today, but for now, the image above will have to do.
