R2-D2 Sells for $2.76 Million

R2-D2 is clearly the droid that someone was looking for. Sold by the Profiles in History auction house in California this week, this model of droid was described as a “complete R2-D2 unit” that was assembled from original screen used parts. So now you can see why it would sell for $2.76 million(USD).

It is as close as anyone will ever come to owning THE R2-D2. This model was put together using parts for the character from the original trilogy and Episodes I and II. This R2 unit was made from aluminum, steel, and fiberglass, and measures 43″ tall. It doesn’t have any internal components, like the control mechanisms used by actor Kenny Baker. It is basically a shell.

We don’t know who bought it, but apparently it did not sell to a moisture farmer.

Fallout 4 Tesla Rifle Replica Is Truly Electric

I’m a big fan of Fallout 4 and have spent many hours playing the game. One of the weapons you might recognize from the game is this Tesla Rifle. This replica was made by and was made by Wasted Props, and looks like someone stepped right out of the game with it.

The weapon even spins and charges like it does in the game before it fires. In the center of the spinning bit is one of those Sharper Image plasma balls I used to want so bad back in the ’80s. The rifle is over 40-inches long and looks to be very well made.

Unlike many of the cool replicas we see, there are lots of videos of what exactly it took to build this thing:

So I have EMF issues with the plasma ball triggering the motor, as the wires run past the plasma ball to the arduino. When the ball is off it works fine. Shielding come at me bro!!!

Finally got to do a proper test with the plasma ball on the tesla rifle. Just need to mount up a motor to drive the rotor.

#progress !!! Used a different #speed #controller tonight and a #conservative #tune. This is looking to be the right setup for what I'm looking for. A little more #tweaking and that will do the trick.

Amazing build!

Aliens M41A1 Pulse Rifle Replica: Kill the Queen

I can remember to this day how scared I was the first time I watched Aliens growing up. That movie was so cool I couldn’t look away, but I certainly didn’t sleep much that night. I remember ol’ Brown Bess from the movie, even though that rifle didn’t save the Marines.

Aliens fans can now get their hands on this officially-licensed M41A1 Pulse Rifle Brown Bess prop replica by Hollywood Collectibles Group. The impressively detailed, 5.5lb. replica was made using designs of the original hero weapons from the movie, though it has no moving parts.

The replica also ships with a tabletop display stand and reinforced metal sling attachment points. Sadly, the LED ammo counter on the side is a sticker, stuck at 95. Still, it’s pretty awesome. Only 750 pieces are available globally and it will set you back $499.99 at Entertainment Earth.

Own Your Own Battle-scarred Terminator

Beat SkyNet at their own game by getting your very own Terminator. Model T-850 to be precise; already battle damaged, so you won’t be surprised when it get’s a bit beat up during its first trip into the future, the past or wherever, to fight other Terminators.

This replica will look awesome in your prop collection. It is full of amazing details like hand-punched real human hair and lots of fake blood, so that it looks super realistic and scary.

It will only cost you $2,781.95(USD) from Etsy seller Biomechanoids. if you happen to have the cash laying around. For that price he better time travel for real and undo the terrible modern reboot.

The Walking Dead Daryl’s Crossbow Replica: Playing Dead

Every time I watch The Walking Dead, I end up thinking about what would be the best weapons to fight a zombie horde. I think Daryl has the best weapon with the crossbow. It’s quiet, can shoot a reasonably long distance, and the bolts are reusable.

If you are a fan of The Walking Dead, and specifically Daryl’s crossbow, check out this role-playing replica. The prop is officially licensed and has an arrow with an orange safety tip. The catch is that the arrow doesn’t actually fire.

When you pull the trigger, you get a whooshing sound like an arrow flying and the bow vibrates. It sounds pretty awesome. You can get your own on ThinkGeek for $34.99(USD).

Mr. Fusion Replica is Perfect for DeLorean Owners

In September of 2014, we caught our first glimpse of a slick Mr. Fusion replica just like the one Doc Brown had on his DeLorean time machine. The catch at the time was that the replica wasn’t available just yet. We sort of lost track of that cool replica and it has now surfaced again at ThinkGeek.

The top of the device is hinged and opens to allow you to drop make-believe fusion material into the base. It even makes sound effects when you switch it on.

It appears to be the same replica we saw last year, this time you can get it in stock right now for $399.99(USD) at ThinkGeek. That certainly isn’t cheap, but awesome movie prop replicas rarely are.

Star Wars BB-8 Droid Rolls into Real Life

Sorry Artoo, but it seems like you’re not the most lovable droid anymore. When BB-8 was revealed in the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser, people’s reactions toward it were mixed. But the movie’s live panel at Star Wars Celebration changed all that by nonchalantly revealing the robot’s working on-screen prop.

Behold, what everyone now wants for Christmas:

Insane Clown Posse must be having intense migraines right now.

Gotham City Police Badge Prop Lets You Be One of Gotham’s Finest

I was really excited when Gotham first aired. I thought it would be great to see what Gotham City was like before Batman arrived to clean it up. I watched the first few episodes and the show failed to grab me. Maybe I’ll go back one day and give it another shot. What I do recall from the show are the badges that the police wear.

If you are a fan, you can now get a prop replica of one of those badges to be your own. The replica is based on the same design that the badges on the show are made from.

The badge is chrome plated metal and it is attached to a removable leather belt strap. The badge is about 3.5-inches tall and is officially licensed. You can get one soon at ThinkGeek for $29.95(USD).

Lend Me Your Ears: Limited Edition Daryl Dixon Zombie Ear Necklace

Next to Rick, the best character on The Walking Dead is Daryl Dixon. If you have been watching the show since it began, you might recall that early in his zombie killing career he made a necklace out of the ears of the zombies he did in. It was gross and would have to be really stinky.

walking_dead_zombie_ears_1zoom in

Thanks to Gentle Giant, you can own your own prop replica of Daryl’s zombie ear necklace. Only 1,676 of these will be made. Each of them is displayed in a wood and glass shadow box and looks really cool. The necklace was digitally sculpted from the original prop worn in the show.

Each of them is hand numbered on the bottom of the box and has a certificate of authenticity. You can get your own set of zombie ears for $99.99(USD) at ThinkGeek. Perhaps the coolest part is that you can actually take the ear necklace out of the box and wear it and put it back without messing things up.

DIY Iron Man Gauntlet with Rocket: Tiny Tanning Machine

Patrick Priebe is at it again. The prop maker’s latest toy is a step up from his usual laser-emitting or flame-spewing gizmos. It’s an Iron Man-themed gauntlet with a built-in model rocket launcher. It also has a palm-mounted laser, because Patrick doesn’t mess around when it comes to messing around.

As usual, Patrick didn’t provide a detailed breakdown of how he made the gauntlet for fear that you’d hurt yourself trying to copy his work. And unless you like using your arm as a launch platform, I suggest you follow the old bit about not trying this at home. Skip to 5:17 to see gauntlet in action. Then keep watching to see why you really shouldn’t do this.

Do you like to play with fire?! Check out Patrick’s website for more of his commissions.
