Arcade Coin Slot Belt Buckle: Insert Coin to Play

While it’s not quite as interactive as the Etch-a-Sketch belt buckle, this arcade coin slot belt buckle is even better, in my humble opinion. This belt buckle was designed by Seattle’s if Industries, and not only does it feature a genuine recycled arcade coin slot, it actually lights up.

I don’t know if there’s any room inside of it for storing quarters, but that’d be cool if it did. Of course, I’m not sure what sort of message your significant other would be sending if they then pushed in the button to reject the coin. And where would it come out, your butt? Ok. That was childish of me.

Unfortunately, it’s currently sold out, but if Industries says they’ll make these to order if you contact them directly over on Etsy. If your pants are falling down right now, you’ll just have to settle for the NES console belt buckle instead.

MetroPCS announces Q1 2012 results: total revenues up, new subscriber growth shrinks

Regional network MetroPCS has announced total revenues of approximately $1.3 billion for Q1 2012, up from $1.2 billion in the last quarter and up seven percent from the same period in 2011. Users on contract now total 9.5 million, with 16 percent of them making the move across to a smartphone. Net income has, however, dropped 63 percent since Q1 2011, with cost per user up 16 percent compared the same period last year. MetroPCS puts down to "retention expense" and the roll-out of its 4G network. The fifth biggest US carrier added over 131,000 new subscribers, but growth continues to slide -- it's down from 190,000 in Q4 2012. On the positive side, users are creeping onto the carrier's 4G network, with 580,000 LTE subscribers nowmaking up six percent of its total subscription base -- regardless of those creeping costs for unlimited data.

Quarters Shrunken Down to Size Through Electromagnetism

When I was growing up, I remember seeing a native tribe somewhere on TV or the movies who had a bunch of shrunken heads hanging around their huts. I seem to remember that they looked like dried up apples that had been carved out. Maybe that’s what they really were and they didn’t actually shrink any human heads.

If you’d like to get your hands on a shrunken head without harming a hair on anyone’s head, then check out this oddity – a shrunken head U.S. Quarter.

These quarters have been zapped with 6,000 volts and 100,000 amps using a high energy electromagnetic field.  The intense energy forces whatever is used as a conductor between its repelling magnetic fields to be compressed in about 1/100th of a second. The result of placing a quarter in this evil contraption is a smooshed coin like the ones shown in the pics here. While the center details are somewhat distorted, the edge, letters and numbers are pretty much intact, making of one weird looking coin.

You can get your hands on one of these shrunken quarters over at ThinkGeek for $24.99(USD). That’s right, it may be about 1/3rd smaller, but it costs 100 times as much – and you can’t use it in any vending machine.
