This bunny-shaped scissor and paper-clip holder is ‘hoppy’ to help!

If you haven’t yet been introduced to Qualy’s style of products, you’re really in for a treat! The Thailand-based studio is responsible for some incredibly adorable, clever, and unique products that draw inspiration from nature, natural phenomena, or just the things you see around you. Qualy’s products are literally designed to delight, as forms cleverly balance function as well as emotion. The Desk Bunny is yet another incredibly apt example.

Meet the Desk Bunny. It isn’t a part of a magician’s prop collection but this bunny surely has a few tricks up its sleeve… and its ears! The looped ears are actually a pair of safety scissors that dock beautifully into the bunny’s body to protect kids from accidentally touching the blade. Whenever you need the scissors, pull the bunny’s ears upwards and the scissors un-dock, allowing you to safely use them. The Desk Bunny even happens to be holding onto a magnetic carrot with green paper-clips attached to it, serving as the carrot’s shoots. Pick the paper clips from their nicely organized cluster, or just remove the carrot and use it as a fridge magnet… it’s entirely up to you! Pretty enchanting, eh? That’s what you call a bunch of clever ideas tied beautifully together into a product that’s functional, playful, and safe for kids.

Cut Like a Ninja with Samurai Sword Scissors

Samurai Sword Scissors, try saying that three times fast. These are definitely some of the coolest looking scissors we’ve seen, because let’s face it- most scissors just look like scissors. But the Nihonto Hasami Japanese Sword Scissors are different, it looks like a katana sword. Except miniature. And slightly less deadly. But still dangerous, especially if you’re running with them. Is it weird that we’re not supposed to run with scissors but running with a sword is perfectly acceptable? What’s up with that?

These scissors come in three color choices- black, purple, or red. Just like real katana swords, they come with a sheath (scabbard if you want to get technical and I know you do). So I guess you actually can run with them, sorry Mom and every elementary school teacher ever. They’re made in Japan, no surprise, of cutlery grade stainless steel. Make it your weapon of choice for your next art project.

Comfier Scissors for Carpal Tunnel

carpal_tunnel_scissors_01

Adapted for those inflicted by carpal tunnel syndrome, this research-driven scissors design offers an entirely new way of gripping. Because concentrated movements can exacerbate the problem, the handle section of these scissors strays away from the traditional method of opening and closing solely with the fingers. Instead, the ergonomic handles are shaped so the user grabs it with their whole hand, distributing pressure to the thenar muscle and alleviating stress on the problematic median nerve.

Furthermore, the angle of standard scissor designs tends to make the user point their wrists down. For sufferers of carpal tunnel, this can progress the syndrome by putting pressure on the source of nerve damage. With consideration of this issue, the angle has been adjusted to prevent wrist strain for anyone with or without carpal tunnel.

cizorz_01

Cizorz breaks the archetypical perception of traditional-type scissors with an entirely new and innovative aesthetic and storing solution! When compressed, its as slim as a butter knife and can easily be placed in an upright holder that follows its cylindrical form. It’s also safer to store and grab when the scissors are needed. Composed of a hardened steel blade, a structural core and a leaf spring it functions in the same familiar way as conventional scissors. The body is wrapped in a non-slip silicon finish, wood, or bamboo depending on the users unique taste.

Cizorz is a 2015 Red Dot Award Winner.

RightShears: The Angled, Natural-Grip Scissors

rightshears

Last year we wrote about RightShears. These were wacky-looking scissors with a sharp 90 degree bend right in the blades, which made it possible to hold with a a more natural grip than standard scissors. If you look at the picture above, you’ll understand immediately why RightShears would be perfect for anyone with arthritis, or with a desire to cut things in a more natural and ergonomic fashion. Well, we’re writing about them again because you can finally buy some. Their Kickstarter failed last time, but we’re happy to report they’ve relaunched and it is now fully-funded, with 56 days to go. You can get yourself a pair with a $14 pledge, with an estimated shipping date of February 2017.

Clever Cutter Combines Knife with a Cutting Board

Knives and cutting boards are a classic kitchen combo. So why not just combine them into a single kitchen tool with the Clever Cutter? Combine them with a pair of scissors while you’re at it?

clever_cutter_1zoom in

This gadget puts a knife on one side and a small cutting board on the other, so you can slice vegetables, meats, and other food items as easily as you cut paper with scissors. The cutting board provides a small surface to provide resistance for cutting, though it’s really tiny.

clever_cutter_2zoom in

I guess it is good for slicing vegetables and small pieces of meat right into your pan or into your bowl. It comes with an angled stainless steel blade that, the company says, can retain its sharpness for a long time, with a safety button that locks the tool in a closed position to prevent accidents. It is only $19.99(USD) over on Amazon.

RightShears Solves A Problem We Didn’t Know We Had

Right-Shears-Right-Angle-Scissors-by-ReExcite-Featured-image-672x372

Look, scissors have been around for a while, and for the most part, they do their job just fine. But just fine didn’t seem to be enough for ReExcite, a startup whose website was clearly designed in 1998. They’re making a set of scissors called RightShear and while they do exactly the same thing regular scissors do, they do so at a 90 angle. This way you can keep your hand out of the way of whatever it is you’re cutting. It may seem a little useless for small tasks, but if you’re cutting large pieces of cardboard that better lay flat for some reason, RighShear will get the job done much more easily. As a matter of fact, if you look at videos of the item in action you’ll see the ergonomics are actually quite improved. They’ll be launching a crowdfunding campaign soon at an undisclosed pricepoint, and you can sign up on their page to be notified of when this happens.
