Jeff Koons designs wine label for Château Mouton Rothschild

Karanvir Singh:

It was all started back in year 1945, when the world’s most successful wine grower Baron Philippe de Rothschild asked Philippe Jullian to illustrate the Mouton Rothchild label to celebrate the victory of the Allies and to mark the return of his property, sequestrated by the Vichy government. The initiative was a success, and every year since then, a different painter including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon, and Andy Warhol, to name a few, has provided a design, creating a fascinating collection of original artworks by some of the greatest names in contemporary painting. Now in 2012, the America’s most famous living artist known for his appreciation of American kitsch, and his reproductions of banal objects like the giant, shiny balloon animal sculptures made out of stainless steel, Jeff Koons has been commissioned by art lover and owner Baroness Philippine de Rothschild to create the 2010 label of Pauillac first growth Château Mouton Rothschild. And the Pennsylvania-born sculptor Koons influenced by both Marcel Duchamp and Andy Warhol, in his design worked over an ancient Pompeii fresco of ‘The Birth of Venus’ with a silver line drawing of a ship sailing under a bright sun.
