Telefonica pens deal with Evernote, gives global customers one year’s free premium access
You've got to hand it to Evernote, it's taking the initiative when it comes to getting its popular productivity tools into as many hands as possible. We've already seen Deutsche Telekom customers score access to it's premium services for free, now over 247 million Telefonica customers are getting the same -- a $45 saving. The partnership kicks off in Brazil via the Vivo brand, whose customers can get a year's access to the top-tier features starting today. Firefox OS arrives in Latin America on Movistar network
To date, Firefox OS has only had a presence in Europe. Now, it's now venturing overseas to Latin America with a launch on Movistar. Both Colombians and Venezuelans can buy the Alcatel OneTouch Fire and ZTE Open from the carrier today. Whether or not the phones represent bargains will depend on the country, however. Venezuelans wanting the OneTouch Fire and Open will have to buy them at steep respective prices of 1,739BEF ($277) and 1,159BEF ($184) on contract, while Colombians can buy either device for 199,900 pesos ($106) prepaid or 99,900 pesos ($53) on a one-year agreement. We're still months away from the release of Firefox OS phones in the US, but the Latin American launch at least gets us one step closer.

EU raids Telefonica, Deutsche Telekom and Orange offices in data probe
Woop, woop, that's the sound of the... European Commission? EU officials (figuratively) kicked in the doors of Telefonica, Deutsche Telekom and Orange's European headquarters this week. The trio are being investigated after ISP Cogent Communications alleged that they are deliberately blocking data-hungry services -- much like Cogent's earlier complaint about Comcast. The trio are pleading their innocence while the case continues, and hoping that investigators don't mess with the office furniture too much.
