We're always big fans of new stuff, and Amped is ready to throw some your way. FTC reveals $50,000 Robocall Challenge winners, alarms Rachel from card services (video)

FTC reveals winners of its antirobocall contest

The FTC has managed to find two non-violent solutions to its Robocall Challenge, aimed at blocking auto-dialing telemarketers, thanks to winners Serdar Danis and Aaron Foss. The pair, who will receive $25,000 each, came up with variations on a system that would pre-screen calls before ringing your phone while allowing the FTC to blacklist known scammers at the same time. Google took a non-cash prize in a separate category with a scheme that would foil caller-ID spoofing often used by boiler rooms like the notorious "Rachel from card services" outfit, which has over a hundred numeric aliases. The FTC receives a whopping 200,000 complaints per month about the nuisance and screened nearly 800 submissions (see the More Coverage link), many of which show a certain, shall we say, passion for the topic. It's not too often that a pair of Chinese smartphones shows up in our office, but we try to take advantage of the opportunity whenever it comes around. Thanks to Oppo Style, a trade company that sells Oppo devices directly, we have two 16GB Find 5 handsets ready for the taking! As a refresher, the phone offers a 5-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset, 13MP rear camera, 2,500mAh battery, Android 4.1.2 and 2GB RAM, to name a few. The 16GB version normally retails for $499 in the US, while the 32GB goes for $569, so it's definitely worth taking a few seconds to enter. Good luck!

Our first ever Expand event is around the corner, this March 16-17 in San Francisco. In addition to oodles of interesting speakers, there'll be shiny sights to see: robots, retro games, of course gadgets galore and a few surprises we haven't even unveiled yet. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to record said sights with your own state-of-the art camera?

Think about it, the toothpaste you used as a child and what you use today are two completely different products. The key word behind the change has been innovation. Presently, P&G is ready to Reinvent Olay Pro-X and is inviting designers from the world over to participate in their new contest.

Prizes Worth $5000

The booty call on this co-creation event runs up to prizes worth $5,000 and all you need to do for this, is to enter the contest! The brief is simple – “Transform the brand for the most savvy and affluent women, with your innovative ideas and designs!” Simply “Reinvent Olay Pro-X!”

The main objective of the contest is to defy expectations and reinvent Olay.

Pro-X for beauty-involved skincare shoppers.

The contest is for former or current customer, mere hobby creative, a designer-to-be, folks wanting to become part of the P&G community; the contest gives you the chance to participate in the creation of the new Olay Pro-X.
