Link Wireless SSD Wristband: 1TB on Your Wrist. Technology is Awesome.

I have a couple of external hard drives that I bought just a couple of years ago. Together, they’re large enough to use as a foot rest. But now we have this. The Fasetto Link is a wireless external SSD encased in a rugged wristband that’s just a tad larger than a watch.

You’ll be able to access Link’s content via its file management and media playback app, which will be released for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android. Just like other wireless hard drives, no Internet connection is needed to access Link’s contents. Link can stream to up to seven devices simultaneously.

Fasetto claims that Link’s 2000mAh battery is good for 2 weeks on standby and 12 hours of streaming per charge. Its rubber case is UV-resistant, shockproof and waterproof up to 15m.

The Link will be available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities. Pledge at least $199 (USD) on Indiegogo to receive a Link as a reward. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to try and strap my WD MyBook to my wrist.

KipstR Wristband Starts TiVo Recording When You Fall Asleep: Blue Collar Band

Earlier this year we saw a Netflix and Fitbit hack that pauses the video when the viewer falls asleep. Virgin Media’s KipstR wristband is a very similar device, but it works with TiVo instead of Netflix. When KipstR senses that you’ve fallen asleep, it will tell your TiVo box to pause then record what you’re watching. It can also resume playback when you wake up.

Virgin Media developed the device with the help of Manchester Creative Studio students Jonathan Kingsley and Ryan Oliver. The teens picked a blood oxygen sensor called a pulse-oximeter to determine if the wearer has fallen asleep, then used a 3D printer to create the prototype’s case.

Virgin Media is looking for KipstR testers in the UK as of this writing. Getting paid to fall asleep while watching TV? That’s the dream.

Razer Nabu SmartBand Offers Mobile Notifications and Band-to-Band Social Connectivity

Razer has pulled the covers off something a bit different for it at CES 2014. The new product isn’t a gaming mouse, keyboard, or headset. Rather the Razer Nabu SmartBand is a compact wearable device meant to interface with your smartphone and more.

The device will provide notifications from your smartphone on its small OLED screens. The outer public icon screen shows the user incoming calls, texts, emails, and app updates via notification icons. The private message screen on the inside of the wrist gives detailed info on texts emails, and more that only the user needs to see.

The Nabu also has advanced sensors for data tracking with location information, bio data feedback for steps and more, as well as sleep data. One of the more unique features of the Nabu is that it allows band-to-band communication capability to find nearby friends and other users based on settings that are defined by the wearer. Razer plans on offering the Nabu to developers first to see what sort of innovative apps they can develop for the device.

The Nabu supports Android and iOS smartphones. The developer price for the Nabu is $49(USD) with the retail price to be set later.
