The Opportunity

BSH’s brand Bosch is seeking a highly motivated candidate that will be responsible for the conception and industrial design realization of future innovations in the luxury refrigeration market. This position will be pivotal in the long-term development and strategy of luxury home appliances. As a creative thinker, you will work with various groups to collect and generate ideas for the next luxury refrigeration products within interdisciplinary teams (product marketing, design, product management, development, etc.). Requirements

• Highly proficient in PowerPoint as well as Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat)
• Deep interest and awareness of global design, packaging, industry, retail, consumer trends and the ability to leverage such insights into current and future thinking
• Strong visual and communication skills through sketching, illustration, storytelling, etc.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating breadth and creativity in successful packaging, graphics, Vis-ID systems, and consumer UX thinking
• Experience with 2D die line development a distinct advantage

Nascent Objects is an entirely new concept of how to design, build, sell and re-use consumer electronic products that allow consumers to easily upgrade or reuse component modules in products created using Nascent Objects.

The Opportunity

Currently, the San Francisco based industrial design team is seeking talented candidates for paid internships. We are looking for candidates with a strong talent in developing unique design concepts to help bring the brands of our clients to life. An ideal candidate has practical problem-solving skills and is driven to develop thoughtful design solutions that create meaningful user experiences. Candidates should possess strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate ideas through outstanding visualization skills. Interns are fully embedded into the ID team and contribute to every step of the industrial design process, from concept generation through final implementation. A solid ID background is necessary, a strong graphic aesthetic will be well received, and practical experience with engineering and manufacturing constraints is preferable.

Responsibilities

• Maintain design intention from concept generation to final implementation
• A thorough understanding of design principles
• Personal commitment to quality, attention to detail
• Interface with UX, graphic and packaging designers to create seamless product solutions
• Ensure innovation by actively researching, sharing and implementing new trends and materials
• Excellent time management, organization & prioritization skills required to handle multiple projects simultaneously within tight timelines and meet deadlines
• Effective, articulate design communication and decision-making skills
• Coordinate with vendors to help define and spec materials and processes used in fabrication and assembly
• Report to the VP, Industrial Design Studio

Qualifications

• Industrial design experience
• BS/BA/BFA degree (or equivalent) in industrial design (or equivalent)
• 3D modeling skills – preferably Rhino, Pro/E or Solidworks
• Confidence with 2D and 3D design visualization tools
• Evidence of prototyping abilities
• Great communication skills (visual, verbal, and written)
• The ability to think quickly and problem-solve on the spot with a maturity that maintains a positive team environment
• A portfolio that demonstrates wide-ranging concept exploration, innovative solutions, a clear process and is visually appealing

Responsibilities

-Help to define the future of in-person selling and retail experiences through new product concepts and innovations
-Contributing to the overall design and development of multiple products from concept through to manufacturing and production, including the out-of-box experience, graphics, and packaging
-Actively communicating and collaborating with external engineering and design agencies and manufacturing partners.
-Presenting concepts and detailed design work to various audiences within the company

Requirements

-A BA or MS in Industrial Design or a combination of relevant education and experience.
-A portfolio that strongly demonstrates your passion for all things design and user-centered problem-solving.
-Highly skilled in form development and equally as strong in execution.
-Ability to adapt and shift priorities under challenging timelines.
-Strong ideation, brainstorming, and rapid visualization skills.
-A proven ability to tell and visually communicate thoughts and ideas within multidisciplinary teams.
-A good understanding of materials and processes for mass production.
-Experience working with Colours, Materials, and Finishes (CMF) as well as applying future trends in design and technology.
-Examples of research-driven innovation and strategic design thinking.
-Advanced knowledge of parametric CAD software (Solidworks /Fusion 360) and/or surface modelers (Rhino/Alias), highly proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and other visualization tools, and rendering software such as Keyshot.
-Comfortable flexing your schedule to support frequent communication with partners in other time-zones.
-Must be willing to travel approximately 15% of the year.
