Death Star Tree Topper is No Moon

Not too long ago I talked a bit about a Doctor Who tardis tree topper. If your geeky tendencies lean more towards Star Wars, you might prefer this tree topper instead. This is the Death Star and it sits on top of your tree set to destroy your gifts.

It can glow red or blue and the planet destroying weapon glows an ominous green. It can also play bothe the Imperial March and Star Wars theme music. It measures 6.5-inches across, and power comes from three LR44 button batteries. I assume those batteries are for the remote that looks like the Imperial crest, since the glowing Death Star plugs into a normal outlet or can plug into a Hallmark magic cord, sold separately.

You can get your very own Imperial battle station over at ThinkGeek for $99.95. Just hope that they fixed the exhaust port defect on this one, or you might have a mess on your hands come New Years Day when the Rebels show up to take down your tree.

The Best Star Wars Video You’ll See Today

Not only did YouTuber Bart van Dijk go through the arduous task of building the new LEGO Death Star set (#75159), but he did it in front of a camera, and turned it into a cool stop-motion video for everyone to enjoy. The end result is a very satisfying video. Nerd meditation.

In this video you get to see how this set comes together, all 4016 LEGO pieces being assembled to create the Death Star. However, Bart went the extra mile and included some iconic movie scenes, complete with some audio from the original movies as well. He also did this neat effect which makes it look like the stop-motion is super smooth.

Watch it now. Because many Bothans died to bring us this clip.

Colin Furze Builds a Death Star Using 5,000 Fireworks

So how does a crazy YouTuber who likes to blow stuff up celebrate his three-millionth subscriber? YouTuber Colin Furze went all Imperial and created a Death Star filled with 5,000 fireworks. This should be fun.

firework_death_star_furze_1zoom in

This tops all of his other inventions as this Death Star explodes, without the help of an X-Wing firing on its exhaust port, in a spectacular 20 seconds. This Death Star is covered in 58 boxes of fireworks all wired together to create a magnificent spectacle.

Forget your fireworks display. Colin has you beat. As fireworks are going every which way, it reminds me of The Last Starfighter’s Death Blossom weapon. It is completely insane!

Star Wars Mirrors: Shiny Side of the Dark Side

Everyone needs a mirror or two around the house, if for nothing other than ensuring you don’t have a booger on your face before going out. If you are a sci-fi geek, you might want these Star Wars mirrors.

There are six mirrors in the set with the largest looking like the Death Star. The other mirrors include four TIE fighters and one TIE advanced fighter. The Death Star is 16″ in diameter, the TIE Advanced fighter is the larger at 7.75″ x 4.75″ with the others just a bit smaller.

All of them have a peel-and-stick backing, which probably means they will rip the finish off your drywall when you want to take them down. The entire set will cost you $49.99(USD) at ThinkGeek.

This Wooden Death Star Is The Ultimate Weapon in the Workshop

Woodworker Frank Howarth is celebrating Star Wars Day in a very awesome way indeed, because he made this amazing wood Death Star. You can check out a video of him making the entire thing much faster than the Empire made theirs. This handcrafted wooden Death Star really is a masterpiece.

You can check out a video of him making the entire thing much faster than the Empire made theirs.  After you watch all of the work that went into making this thing, you can’t help but be in awe of his woodworking skills. It is hard to believe, but it is all made from flat pieces of bamboo. He built it up by creating rings of wood which he stacked and glued together, then shaved it all smooth on a lathe.

The finished product is beautiful and full of gorgeous detail, and I’d love to own a piece of art like this. It is now the ultimate (wood) power in the universe. I just hope it doesn’t have an exhaust port.

This Death Star Fire Pit Is the Ultimate Power in the Neighborhood

There have been a number of Death Star fire pits floating around the internet, but this one has some extra nice detailing that makes it look awesome when set ablaze. This one came out of a high school welding class of all places.

The story of this Death Star gets even more interesting. Apparently, it was auctioned off and the winner gave it to Redditor alphacodemonkey as a gift. Just gave it to them. Who gives away Death Stars like that? That is one nice person. Man, I wish I had this in my backyard.

500,000 Brick LEGO Death Star at LEGOLand Windsor

This 500,000 brick LEGO Death Star can be found at LEGOLand in Windsor UK. Can you even imagine how much time and effort it took to build? Well, I’ll tell you. It took 15 model makers three months to build it and it weighs about 1,900 pounds. It may not fire lasers to obliterate planets, but if this thing fell on you, the result would be the same. So it is deadly.

lego_death_star_1zoom in

It will be part of the “finale” for the Star Wars Miniland Model Display, which also features X-Wings and TIE fighters in battle. If you find yourself there as a guest, you will even be able to trigger special sound and light effects, which is pretty cool.

You can see it in LEGOLand Windsor when the exhibit opens on March 11. The video is a time-lapse video of the build. The rest of the model display looks pretty cool too. You can catch some glimpses in the video.

Death Star BBQ: The Charred Side of the Force

Burgers and hot dogs, chicken, steak, or Alderaan, this Death Star barbecue grill cooks them all to perfection. How many other grills can destroy a peaceful planet and grill an entire meal for a squad of Stormtroopers in a single day? None that I know of. The Death Star grill can. And will.

death_star_grill_1zoom in

The 33″ tall grill is made from the Empire’s finest stainless steel and has all of the detailing you expect from a fully armed space station. The lid has an adjustable thermal vent for regulating heat. The engineers assure everyone that it’s not a design flaw. Besides how many sausage sized X-Wings do you expect to encounter?

Put it in your backyard and instill fear into Rebel hearts everywhere. You can pre-order yours now from TheFowndry for about $150.

Death Star Salt & Pepper Shakers: They’re No Half Moons

Bombard food with flavor with Underground Toys’ upcoming Death Star salt and pepper shakers. The shakers are made of ceramic and are about 4″ in diameter. I guess a Starkiller Base shaker would be too big.
