NERF Rival Nemesis MXVII-10K Blaster Will Shoot Your Eye out, Kid

NERF is showing off an awesome new gun to fling foamy death at your friends. This time out it’s not darts that you shoot though. This thing shoots little foam balls at up to 102 feet per second, or about 70 mph. The full name of the toy is the NERF Rival Nemesis MXVII-10K Blaster.

One of the coolest parts is that the gun is sized so that it holds 100 balls at a time. Power comes from six “D” cell batteries or NERF’s new Rival rechargeable battery pack. It has a full stock, making it ideal for adults who don’t want to be left out of the NERF fun.

The Nemesis MXVII-10K will sell for about $100 when it launches this fall. This looks like the perfect weapon for dominating the NERF wars around the neighborhood.

Guy Gets Cool Bionic NERF Gun Arm

Nicolas Huchet has a sweet bionic arm. A team of hackers called Hackerloop developed a bionic NERF Gun for Nicolas, who was left with a myoelectric prosthetic hand after an accident. Presumably they started off by saying, “Gentlemen, we can rebuild him.” The gun is designed to attach to his amputated arm and fire with muscle contraction. Now he’s armed and slightly dangerous.

This gun can fire foam balls on command. It’s connected with an electromyogram (EMG) sensor and also uses an Arduino circuit board. When Nicolas contracts the muscles on his forearm, a sensor on the prosthetic measures electrical activity. Then the gun shoots foam projectiles and stops shooting when the electrical signals lower below the threshold.

Nicolas must feel like an awesome cyborg. Hackerloop are definitely some cool friends. The NERF gun prosthetic is just a prototype for the momen, but they plan to release the completed product next month.

This LEGO NERF Maverick REV-6 Blaster Replica Really Works

Building LEGO replicas is one thing, but building working replicas of guns in LEGO is something entirely different. Check out this reproduction of the NERF Maverick REV-6 blaster by AstonishingStudios. This is some awesome LEGO engineering.

This fully-functional blaster uses only plastic bricks and a metal spring for power. It fires standard NERF suction cup-tipped darts, but each had to be shaved down just a bit to fit into the gun’s rotating cylinder. It is a faithful recreation of the original NERF toy that you terrorized your parents with back in the day.

It’s probably more expensive to build this out of individual LEGO pieces than to buy the actual NERF gun, but it is nice knowing that it can be built if one has the skill.

Shotgun Guitar: Shreddin’ and Shootin’

Let’s form a band. Cool, I call shotgun! When shotguns and guitars combine, you get a musical weapon that will make you a rock God. You can also take care of those pesky fans that rush the stage and make an example of them. Not that I condone that sort of thing.

This dangerous instrument was created by pickup designer Bryan Fleming for Reverend Peyton of Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band. You can see him fire it at the 15 second mark in the video. That is one dangerous and awesome weapon.

This guitar ensures that wherever he plays, he is the headline act. Who’s going to argue with this guy? Not me.

Guy Builds Working Version of Batman’s Grappling Hook Gun

If you have ever wanted a grappling hook gun like Batman uses, you’ll want to check out this video in which engineer James Hobson of Hacksmith Industries built a real working version.

The finished gun is actually nice and compact. It took several tries to get it to fire properly while indoors, and James even got hit in the face by the recoil, but once he took it out in the field for testing, he found that it shoots nice and smooth, and works very well. James doesn’t share the exact details of the firing mechanism, but you can watch him build the Bathook and fire his creation in the video below:

He even used it to shoot a usable zipline between structures:

For his next project, James plans on building an ascension device so that he can climb up the building.

This Tesla Coil Gun Is Straight out of a Video Game

There aren’t many cooler things than a tesla coil. What is cooler than seeing sparks of electricity fly out like tiny bolts of lightning? Nothing. It looks so damn cool. Even if it can be dangerous.

tela_coil_gun_smarter_every_day_1

Destin of Smarter Every Day’s latest video is all about the fantastic assortment of tesla coils his neighbor Cameron Prince has in his collection. The pièce de résistance? A tesla coil gun. It looks like something out of an FPS when it’s fired, but it is completely real. They captured the gun firing at 28,000 fps so you can see all of the crazy details in glorious slow motion. And it is pretty much like watching lightning in slow motion, except that this lightning is coming from a gun.

Interestingly, you can get hit when the secondary coil arcs back at the shooter and the current is so low that it does not kill either Destin or Cameron. But still, don’t try this at home.

Guy Builds Killer Water Gun: Super Duper Soaker

Can you believe that the Super Soaker has been around for 25 years? They’re generally pretty tame, but there was some controversy when it came out because some people were filling them with bleach. That’s scary enough, but nothing compared to what this custom built water gun can do.

water_cannon_1

This is a pressurized water cannon built by YouTuber Asp. Instead of firing a stream of water, it sends out a huge blast of H2O, which can do some serious damage, like put you in the hospital and potentially kill you kind of damage.

CDs are tough. Go ahead and try to break one with your hands. Well, this water cannon instantly shatters one into tiny shards. Now imagine that is your body. Your hand. Your eye. Not a pretty thought. This guy may be on his way to being a water-based super villain.

LEGO Overwatch McCree’s Revolver Keeps the Peace

I’m moving to Colorado from Texas this week and we plan on doing lots of outdoor activities in our new state since we can actually go outside without bursting into flames. I freely admit that I am worried about bears. I mean I don’t want to kill anything, but I also don’t want to wind up as incredibly handsome bear poop either.

I know bear spray is said to be the ticket, but what if that just pisses the bear off? Maybe I can make myself feel better with this LEGO gun. This amazing replica by ZaziNombies looks just like the Jesse McCree Peacekeeper revolver from Overwatch.

lego_peacekeeper_overwatch_1zoom in

Even if it won’t kill an attacking bear, I can throw it under his furry bear feet and slow him up enough to trip some other poor bastard of a hiker while I abscond. Stepping on LEGO bricks is pain right up there with a kidney stone or getting kicked in the balls by Chuck Norris. Surely bears aren’t immune to that level of pain.

I really want it and I wish it would shoot bricks from its blocky barrel. Check out the video whilst I go Google how to not be eaten by a bear while hiking.

Guy Builds RFID Implant-activated Smart Gun

Biohacker Amal Graafstra of Grindhouse Wetware wants to make guns safer so that accidental injuries and death can be a thing of the past. That’s why he has developed a gun whose trigger is activated by a RFID implant in the hand. This smart-gun that can only be triggered by the owner’s touch was recently demonstrated to Motherboard.

rfid_gun_1zoom in

The RFID chip is implanted between the index finger and the thumb, so that when the owner lifts the weapon, the implant unlocks the gun. The gun will not activate if anyone else picks it up. Theoretically this approach is more reliable and faster to activate than competing fingerprint-based gun locks.

This may not be practical for regular folks like you and me. Maybe you don’t want a chip in your hand. However, this could be the future of police firearms. If someone steals their guns, they won’t work. But if you don’t mind a chip in your hand, this could definitely prevent accidents or a thief turning a weapon on its owner.

Arena Infinity Haptic VR Gun Prototype Can Simulate All Sorts of Weapons

Back in the ’80s, there were a bunch of places where you could go and play laser tag if you were so inclined. For kids of the future, laser tag will be replaced with sweet virtual and augmented reality games where you can shoot and run until your heart’s content. Before those cool VR games can roll out, we need some cool peripherals to go with it like Striker VR’s Arena Infinity haptic VR gun.

stiker-vr-1zoom in

This thing looks like a modernized Nintendo light gun from back in the day, but it does a lot more than shoot. It actually has a linear accelerator inside that allows you to feel the recoil of single shots, bursts, and full auto fire. The virtual recoil system can also make you feel like you are charging your rail gun before you fire, and it can even feel like a chainsaw if you need to slice through an enemy.

stiker-vr-2zoom in

This is the first time a fully working prototype of this gun has been shown. Check out the video to see it in action. Dev kits will ship in Q4 2016, but there’s no word yet of a consumer version.
