Rubik’s Cube Solving Robot Does the Deed in about a Second

Remember that kid that solved a Rubik’s Cube in 5.25-seconds? He’s a sloth compared to the robot that Jay Flatland and his pal Paul Rose created. The motorized ‘bot has a 3D-printed frame, and is controlled by an Arduino and custom software running on a Linux PC.

A quartet of webcams lets the software on the computer to see what state the cube is in. Then, fast-moving stepper motors whirl the cube around. The result is a robot that can solve a randomly mixed up cube in as little as 1.047 seconds.

Technically, I’ve never “officially” solved a Rubik’s Cube. I always resorted to pulling off the stickers so I didn’t feel quite so dumb.

3D Printed 22x22x22 Rubik’s Cube: A Headache Cubed

YouTuber, Rubik’s Cube enthusiast and masochist corenpuzzler designed and 3D printed what he claims is the world’s highest order Rubik’s Cube, one with 484 cubelets on each face.

Corenpuzzler said it he printed it on a Prusa i3 over the span of 8 months. It then took him several tries before he could completely put all of its 2,691 parts together into working order. The massive puzzle turns stiffly and looks like it could break apart again at any moment, but for corenpuzzler it’s a testament to how far consumer 3D printing has come. He’s crazy, but he’s also got a point.

LEGO Rubik’s Cube: Rubrick Cube

I’ve heard of LEGO machines that solve Rubik’s Cubes, but this is the first time I’ve encountered Rubik’s Cubes made of LEGO. Qunotoys’ fully functioning Rubrick Cube replaces the puzzle toy’s stickers with 1×1 LEGO plates. The cube measures 1.57″ on each side and can be customized with a key chain or different colored plates.

Guy Sets World Record for Solving a 7×7 Rubik’s Cube

Some people are so good at things that they make you feel downright stupid. If you have zero talent solving the various Rubik’s Cubes, then Melbourne, Australia Rubik’s Cube champion Feliks Zemdegs will make you feel pretty useless.

This guy has set the world record for solving a 7×7 Rubik’s Cube, finishing it in a most impressive 2:23.55. That’s under 3 minutes, not under 3 hours, which is closer to what you or I could accomplish – on a good day. The kid is a real champion. He’s probably solving complex math problems in his head at the same time.

Whatever. I can solve it too. I just have to take it apart and put it back together again. So who’s smarter?

It is a fun little project and when you are done you have something cool for your desk. It will impress your friends and they will wonder how you got your Rubik’s Cube in that bottle.

Teen Solves Rubik’s Cube in 5.25 Seconds

Any child of the ’80s will remember the Rubik’s Cube with a mix of hatred and nostalgia. These things are officially the best-selling toy of all time, and were one of the most annoying gifts you could possibly be given. I was never able to solve one without resorting to pulling the stickers off.

I can also remember the Rubik’s Cube being the subject of one of the worst Saturday morning cartoons ever made. Over the weekend, there was an official Rubik’s Cube content held in Pennsylvania and a teen named Collin Burns was there. Burns sat down and solved the cube in an incredible 5.25 seconds.

The official world record is currently 5.55 seconds set by a man out of the Netherlands. Once all the particulars of Burns’ record setting solution are confirmed, he will be the new world record holder. Check out the video to see the teen solve a standard 3x3x3 cube in seconds – and to hear just how loudly a girl can scream.

Kid Solves Rubik’s Cube While on His Head, Spinning

This kid is crazy. Crazy awesome. Check out this video of 15-year old Justin Stomp solving a Rubik’s Cube while spinning on his head. I know, crazy. I can’t do either of those things and this kid is doing both at the same time. If solving the Rubik’s cube was an Olympic sport, I think it would looks something like this.

I can’t even solve a Rubik’s Cube sitting still in a chair. The joke’s on him though. I bet the top of his head is pretty flat by now, whereas mine is nice and round. He’s probably rubbed himself bald too. I hope it was worth it kid. I have plenty of hair.

No, seriously this kid is pretty awesome. I’m just jealous.

Watch A Breakdancer Solve A Rubik's Cube While Headspinning

This is a video of 15-year-old breakdancer Justin Stomp solving a Rubik’s cube while headspinning. Now that is what I call multitasking. Impressive? Absolutely. But also, dizzying. Right? Did anyone else get a little motion sickness seeing him spin around like that? Or would admitting that make a person sound old? Because if it’s the […]
