The Better Better:Re

Better:Re is an electric power pack that can charge digital devices using discarded batteries. We typically tend to outgrow our mobile phones in about two years and while most components are recycled, the battery is often neglected. To give them a more meaningful after-life, this charger acts as an emergency short-term solution for on the go. It’s good for cameras, tablets, phones and other portable devices.

Rekindle Candle Rekindles the Candle, Not the Flame

Candles are one of those things you can recycle again and again (in theory), because they’re basically just made from melted wax and nothing more. I say “in theory” because most people don’t really bother to re-melt and mold melted wax after a single use.

However, that might all soon change with designer Benjamin Shine’s Rekindle candle holder. It’s basically a two-tiered candle holder that has a chamber at the bottom. As the candle melts, the melted wax that doesn’t burn up drips slowly into that chamber.

When the candle has been used up, you can remove the cover and re-use the candle at the bottom. Repeat the cycle over and over again, and you might not have to buy another candle for a very long time.

Pure-Bottle is a Glass, Lantern, and Spoon Set In One

Pure Bottle

Sometimes, things are not what they appear to be. For example, the Pure-Bottle might look like a mere bottle at first glance. Its name even suggests that it’s just a bottle, but you’ll notice that a couple of things are off if you take a closer look.

First of all, there are cuts where there shouldn’t be and lines that you normally wouldn’t find on regular bottles. That’s because the Pure-Bottle technically isn’t a bottle anymore. With a few choice cuts and after sanding the separated parts, it is now a spoon, a lantern, and a drinking glass.

On its product page, the Pure-Bottle is described as follows:

The lanterns provide wind protection for candles while creating a warm ambience perfect for restaurants, cafes or home settings. The glasses are simple yet durable, while making a strong ecological statement. The spoons are functional and versatile; perfect for presenting food in a restaurant, serving a salad or eating your breakfast cereal.

Pure-Bottle is hand-made entirely from recycled materials. It’s available online from Lucirmas.

Water and Wisdom

Water & Wisdom is a charity project that transforms the cardboard packaging for bottles of mineral water into a chessboard. The bottle caps become the chess pieces. Designed for areas of need, the thoughtful design not only provides fresh water, but an intellectually stimulating activity equally important for mental health.
