Laser Precise Time

Love the Bullion Wall Clock for its innovative use of metal and laser, just to tell the time. Three steel medallions are artfully stacked upon each other and are wall mounted using a magnetic mechanism. The topmost medallion is stationary and houses a circular array of laser pointers to demarcate the hours on the wall surface. The middle and bottom medallions both rotate, and each houses a laser pointer that indicates the minute and hour hands respectively.

A gentle inward tapering on the side faces angle the lasers towards the wall surface. Once mounted the unit can be turned on and off with a gentle press on the face.

Bullion Wall Clock is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.

Singular Cleaning

The Wall is a wall mounted washing machine design for single folks. This compact washing machine is wall mounted and suitable for a small load of clothes. It looks cute and adds spunk to washing clothes, which usually a very boring job!

60,000 Beer Bottle Cap Wall Built in Two Months, Watch It in Two Minutes

This wall built from beer bottle caps looks pretty awesome. If you have this many beer bottle caps lying around the house and want to do a project like this, you should get help, but that’s another story. So what gives? Who has this many bottle caps just lying about?

kegworks bottle cap wall

Well, the folks at Kegworks in Buffalo, New York did – with a little help from to friends and customers. It took them 60,000 caps to cover this 459 square feet of empty wall space that was desperately in need of some artwork. Even with numerous people working on the project, this was a massive undertaking. It took 43 employees about two months to complete the wall – though I’m sure this wasn’t the only thing they were working on that whole time.

Each cap had to be hand placed on the magnetic wall. What took them two months, you can watch in two minutes. Suckers. They did all of the work and we get to watch it in no time and enjoy a wall that booze built.

Magnet Paint Transforms Walls into Magnet Boards

For those of us with modern, stainless steel fridges, we can only stick our refrigerator magnets to the ugly sides – and if yours happens to be recessed into the wall like ours is, you’re pretty much screwed. But if you whip out a can of Magnet Paint, you can make any wall or flat surface into a magnet-friendly place.

Developed by Japan’s Colorworks[JP], Magnet Paint goes on in two coats, a basecoat that contains the metal particles, followed by a topcoat that contains the color. Just pick any wall, and you’ll be able to slap magnets up on it like it was an old metal fridge. The idea is perfect for kid’s rooms as well as office walls. It even looks like they offer a version that combines chalkboard paint with Magnet Paint.

At this point, I’m not sure where you can find Colorworks’ Magnet Paint outside of Japan, but it looks like there are a couple of similar products already available here in the U.S.

iPad Controls LED Wall Art

Sure, you can put some art on your wall, but how about putting up some LED wall art that’s controlled via your iPad? That’s exactly what Greg Friedland did and I have to say that the results are pretty cool. It’s definitely a nice way of filling up an empty wall in an apartment.

greg friedland aurora led wall art

Greg Friedland’s Aurora LED wall started out as an idea to put some art on a 6′×12′ wall in his living room. He created a grid of 544 LEDs that’s capable of 16 million colors, attached to a 4′×8′ wood board. The LEDs are controlled by a microcontroller, which in turn is controlled by a program running on a laptop. This software on his PC connects to an iPad, which allows interaction with the moving patterns. That seems like a lot of steps but I guess there’s no good way to control it directly from the iPad yet. There are also built-in modes that respond to music.

It’s something that I wouldn’t mind having on my empty living room wall. To find out how to make yours, check out Greg’s instructions here.

Bethesda’s Office Gets Life-Size Alduin’s Wall from Skyrim

Bethesda did an amazing job with Skyrim, so no one could blame them for celebrating a little and decorating their offices. They have done just that, but maybe not in the way you expect. Bethesda had this full-scale Alduin’s Wall just lying around after it was used for E3, PAX, and the Skyrim launch party. So, instead of letting this gigantic wall art go to waste somewhere, or ending up on eBay, they have chosen to proudly display it in their office.

alduin wall

I think it sounds cool enough to work for a video game company like Bethesda and it just got cooler. It’s like having a part of the game with you all day. And it looks amazing. This 25′ x 8.5′ wide recreation of Alduin’s Wall has been dedicated to the late Adam Adamowicz, an insanely talented game artist who designed the wall in Skyrim, and worked on Fallout 3 among other things.

Just look at that huge slab. Now that is art my friends. Awesome video game geek art. You can find more pics of this awesome thing over on Flickr.
