Doctor Who Doctors Playing Poker

We’ve all seen the famous Dogs Playing Poker paintings. The Doctors Playing Poker version is soooo much better. It is the work of artist SugarHappyJax, who should really write for the show. I would have totally watched this episode.

It shows the 4th, 9th, 10th and 11th Doctors all playing a game of poker with a Cyberman, a Dalek and the Master (Anthony Ainley version). It has a lot of nice details, like Van Gogh’s exploding TARDIS painting, playing cards with K-9 on the back, the fez, even the crack in time.

This painting is well worth the $500(USD) asking price.

This Parrot Body Paint Is Eye Tickery!

This Parrot Body Paint Is Eye Tickery!
You guys — this is not a parrot! It’s a human lady painted and posed to look like one. My eyes are all “Whoa, definitely thought that was a parrot. This is f***ing embarrassing.” Hey, don’t be so hard on yourself, eyes! You two are pretty cool, alright? But seriously, watch the language! The make [...]

Soundwall Artwork Is Actually a Speaker

When it comes to speakers and TVs one of the fashionable things to do is hide them so that when they aren’t in use, you can’t tell speakers or a TV are in the room. We have seen TVs hidden by art on the wall in the past. Now, a company called Soundwall is now offering a speaker that is a work of art.

soundwalltb 620x416magnify

The speaker is called Soundwall and it hides a high fidelity speaker and amplifier in plain sight. Interestingly, there are no speakers hiding behind the canvas. The surface itself IS the speaker. Specs for the speaker are 40-20,000Hz frequency +/- 1.5dB on the largest size Soundwall, and the it’s powered by either 2x25W RMS or a 2x100W RMS Class-D amp, depending on the size of the artwork. They also include a subwoofer output if you’d like to place one on the floor to improve bass response.

Each Soundwall unit has a Raspberry Pi controller inside that supports AirPlay and UPnP formats for wireless streaming. The Soundwall speakers can play individual tracks when multiple units are installed in one location or they can be set up to all play the same track.

Buyers can choose from a variety of sizes, a gallery of existing art, or even upload their own photos. You can also order one with a blank canvas if you want to create your own painting. Prices range from $949(USD) for the smallest poster size Soundwall to $2499 for the largest 40″ x 60″ unit. Some of the original paintings can increase the price of the speaker as well.

Oh My Glob! Doctor Who Meets Adventure Time

Doctor Who gets mashed up with Adventure Time in this amazing piece of art by James Hance. You got your Doctor Who in my Adventure Time! No, your Adventure Time is in my Doctor Who!
doctor who adventure time 620x497magnify

It is absolutely perfect. I would pay to see this show. Finn is the Eleventh Doctor and Jake is the Tenth. Lumpy Space Princess is an Adipose. Of course. Ice King is a Weeping Angel, while Gunther and his pals are Daleks. The TARDIS? BMO of course. The only thing missing is that he should have put Princess Bubblegum in here as Amy Pond. How perfect would that have been?

This mural  is done with acrylic paint, measures about 4×5 feet and is now on the wall of Hance’s 9-year-old daughter’s room. I wish I had this on the wall of my house. Thankfully, James does plan on offering the design on prints and t-shirts in the next couple of weeks. Mathematical!

Super Mario Bros. Nesting Dolls: Marioshka

These Super Mario Bros. nesting dolls looks fantastic. Individually, each is a quality work of art. They are a tad dark in theme though. I mean, Bowser seems to have ripped the Princess’ arm off. Heck, Mario is holding a bloody wrench.

Bowser is the biggest one. Open him up and its’a me Mario. Then comes Luigi and finally Goomba. These are the work of William Butler who certainly knows his way around the Mushroom Kingdom – and a paintbrush.

That Goomba looks super mean and Luigi is ready to take him down with a fireball – or just stomp on him. William’s vision of the game is definitely awesome, though I doubt Nintendo will ever release such a gory version.

I would so buy these if they were for sale.

Since When Can Trees Float?

Since When Can Trees Float?
Well, it looks like we’ve discovered definitive proof that we’re living in a computer generated simulation because this floating tree is obviously a glitch. Okay, it’s actually just a cool optical illusion by a pair of artists from Germany. Daniel Siering and Mario Shu wrapped this tree in a plastic sheet and painted it to [...]

Blade Runner Remade Using 12,000+ Watercolor Paintings

Blade Runner was such a classic movie and so far ahead of it’s time that it has legions of fans, despite having virtually no expanded material aside from the original movie (and various different edits). That’s why fans love to find cool new ways to show their love for the movie.

Artist Anders Ramsell is one such fan. He’s condensed the film into a 34-minute masterpiece that must have been a true labor of love. He created 12,597 watercolor paintings by hand to animate key scenes from the film. To make the feat even more amazing, each individual piece of art measures only about 1.5 centimeters by 3 centimeters.

Check it out and be thoroughly impressed. It will make you crave a sequel that’s for sure. Hopefully one will be coming our way soon.

These Animations of Famous Paintings Will Crack You Up

These Animations of Famous Paintings Will Crack You Up
There’s only so many times you can look at stuffy old paintings before you say, “You know what? Imma be honest. I don’t care! Not even a little. When I go to Paris I’d rather get drunk at a discothèque than go to the Louvre. There! I said it! I’m not cultured!” And that’s exactly [...]
