Deal Of The Day: X8+ Premier Power Drone
Drones let you record imagery and capture the world that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to from the ground. A good option to consider when you’re just starting out with drones is the X8+ Premier Power Drone. It’s a powerful, ready-to-fly and Follow-Me compatible drone that you can use for photography, for art projects, and even for delivering small precious cargo.
The X8+ has an expandable platform to carry goods to be delivered or your GoPro. While it can carry up to 1 kg, heavier loads will slow the drone down, so you might want to think twice before loading it up to the max. The X8+ stores flight data so you can generate point clouds for precision surveying and fully-automated flight control makes it easy to fly.
The X8+ is available for $1,300.

Amazing R/C Batman Tumbler: Where Does He Get All Those Wonderful Toys?
Batman’s Tumbler began with Batman Begins and since then there have been many versions in toy form. This new 6-inch scale kit from Soap Studio is one of the coolest. No, it is the best ever! It showed up at Toy Soul 2014 last month and it packs a ton of cool features.
This 1/12 scale model is fully controllable as an R/C vehicle using an iOS or Android App, and you can also use the remote control to control the LEDs of the Tumbler. You can open and close the cockpit, even move the spoilers. If you want you can even use the turbo boost, which has accompanying sounds and lights from the movie. It will speed things up by about 30%. Are you sold yet? Me too. But there’s more.
It also has a voice intercom and you can access a 480p camera embedded in the vehicle to record footage in normal or in night-vision mode and take pictures. It can also record a path and follow it. It comes with the base you see here, with LEDs to light up Batman and the Tumbler for display. That batarang in the base is the wireless remote for the display lights. I want this soooooo bad!
This Deluxe Tumbler is available now from Soap Studio’s website, but brace yourself. It costs HK$4,980, which is about $642(USD). If that is too much, you can get a version that’s just the Tumbler, without Batman or the display base, for $513(USD).

The Most Expensive Gaming Peripheral: Another Person’s Hand and Mind Control
There are lots of gaming peripherals out there, and some of them can get really, really expensive. Hell, I once reviewed a racing wheel, pedals, and shifter set that goes for about $1,200. Even something as simple as a mouse or keyboard can cost you hundreds. When it comes to more creative peripherals like the OCZ Neural Impulse Actuator or some hardcore hydraulic sim systems, the sky is the limit.
This is probably the most expensive peripheral ever, given that it’s made up of tons of extremely expensive, university-grade research equipment and an actual live person. Researchers at the University of Washington used electroencephalography (EEG) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to read when a person defending a virtual city from a flying, missile-launching pirate ship (why the hell not?) wanted to fire her cannon. The person playing thought about moving her hand, and because of that and some science and crap, a person in an entirely different room involuntarily twitched and activated a track pad that sent a message to the game that fired the cannon.
I wonder if the latency is better or worse than a wireless mouse?

Zippo Remote Control: Need a Light Switch?
Here’s a slick hack for makers. Instructables user TSJWang made a small radio transmitter that fits inside a Zippo case. He went to great lengths to ensure that his device still looks exactly like a lighter. But when you press on the flint wheel, instead of a flame a red LED lights up to indicate that the remote is transmitting.
TSJWang got the idea from Captain America: the First Avenger. In the movie, one of Hydra’s assassins uses a similar device to trigger explosives. You can see the movie version of the gizmo at 0:20 and 1:51 of this video.
Obviously TSJWang would rather you kill a switch than a living being.
Hail hackers! Head to Instructables to find out how you can build your own Zippo remote control.
