Crashed UFO Garden Statue: Take Me to Your Weeder

Aliens: I want to believe they’re out there. And it’s easy because I’ve had direct contact with them on numerous occasions. But enough about the government refusing to take my calls anymore, this is the Crash Landing Flying Saucer Alien Spacecraft Statue available exclusively from purveyor of questionable home and garden decor Design Toscano. Now, this particular purchase, this is going to be a tricky one to explain to my wife.

Measuring approximately 30″ wide, 19″ deep, and 25″ high, the 49-pound, $450 hand-painted resin statue will look perfect crashed among a group of existing garden gnomes, who, at least in my mind, are now fleeing in terror.

Am I going to buy one and modify it with smoke and light effects for extra realism? My heart is saying yes, and my mind is saying yes, but my wife is shaking her head no. So you know what that means – I’ll have to do it in secret until she catches me! It’s better to ask forgiveness than permission, that’s my motto. Also: ‘That’s cool, I like sleeping on the couch anyways.’

These architectural renders give life to Elon Musk’s dreams of living in space!

How many times have you heard “I just want to leave this planet for a while!” in the last two years? Very often, right? @sixnfive gives brings that sentiment to life with a collection of architectural renders called ‘What If?’ which is an ode to one of our greatest strengths – imagination. Imagination is a uniquely human ability to visualize unlimited possibilities starting with a simple question like “what if?” and the people who ask it often are the ones driving innovation. This collection explores the possible future move for mankind and probably what Musk has in mind through three elaborate acts

Act one: The Journey includes the meeting, the bedroom, and the dinner room. It represents our trip and the hope to arrive, but also the attachments of our mundane life, carrying memories of a previous reality. Act two: The settlements shows the Universe Edge, Summer House, and Landing Zone. It expresses our freedom to dream and imagine how our intergalactic holiday homes would look like. Act three: The Encounter, is based on human emotions of loving someone, missing someone and being guided. It is all about looking inward and looking from inside, the vestiges of our presence in an inhabited and quiet place.

It explores the perception of time, loneliness, and expectations but it also represents the hope to arrive. Yes, this is scientifically inaccurate but it expresses the freedom to dream and imagine via these zen visuals. Six N. Five is a contemporary studio working on advertising, editorial, and video commissions while finding time to create experimental work with CGI as a new medium for creative self-expression. Clear Resin Moon and Mars Keycaps: The Eagle Has Landed (on Your Desktop)

To celebrate some of humanity’s greatest achievements in space exploration (and sell some cool keycaps in the process), these are Moon Keys. Compatible with Cherry MX switches and clones, the keycaps are available in five varieties: a 1u Eagle Has Landed, Lunar Lander, and Curiosity Rover ($49), and 1.75u Eagle Has Landed ($52), and 2.25u Curiosity Rover ($58). You know, I was just thinking my keyboard could use more of a space theme.

Dear reader, it was my childhood dream to be an astronaut but I wear glasses and that was enough to disqualify me so I instead started to read, write, listen, watch everything space as an attempt to fill the vacuum of a crushed dream -yes, like the vacuum in space. Do what you will with that fun fact about me but, as a kid with a vivid imagination who was obsessed with space travel, the first thing that always came to mind was “how will I call my friends and family back home?” And now with NASA’s Artemis Program in motion to bring humans back on the Moon by 2024, that question has grown up into “what equipment do we need to make faster contact with Earth?” Enter Nokia Luna Net – a smart communication system!

NASA is cooperating with external companies to build the needed equipment for this mission. For this design, Nokia was kept in mind as the partner building the first-ever Moon internet solution which is scheduled to launch in 2022. It consists of one main unit, the lander, and three smaller nodes. The lander and nodes spread out over a specific area that will have the wireless connection and thus build a mesh communication network. The system will be transported via a rocket after which it will reach the moon independently. Luna Net is autonomous and therefore it can set itself up – now only if my Earth WiFi did that too. Thermogenerators will be used for the power supply as they can deal with the extreme temperatures and the long days/nights on the moon. These generators are able to produce electricity from drastic temperature differences (+172 degrees Celcius during the day and -123 degrees Celcius during the night) and store it in rechargeable batteries.

The lander and the nodes are all equipped with VR cameras and LiDAR sensors (Light Detection and Ranging sensors are a remote sensing method used to examine surfaces). This combination allows the system to generate 3D content with detail and depth which gives us a much more realistic understanding of the situation/information. It also has a 360-degree camera and screen set up which lets users on Earth see live images/data from the moon. Rieder explores the design beyond just hardware, the next generation of lunar surface communication should look into how people on Earth can experience and learn about space in a new way even if they don’t get the chance to go up in space…I am sure I am not alone, on this planet or in galaxies far far away.

DIY Rocket Ship Night Light Kit: For Space Dreams

Space: the final frontier. I mean at least according to Star Trek. I always thought the final frontier was death. But enough deep philosophizing, this is the $28 DIY Rocket Night Light Decoration available from Apollo Box. The kit includes everything you need to make a rocket ship night light like the one seen above, provided you have the necessary do-it-yourself skills. I’m… not very confident.

Available in both battery and USB powered models, the kit includes a string of lights, clear base, cotton “smoke”, plastic tube armature (to hold the rocket up), and modeling clay and paint to shape and decorate the rocket ship. It also includes two hot glue sticks (gun not included) to stick everything together. As you can see in the video below, the kit is VERY do-it-yourself. Or, in my case, very honey-can-you-please-do-it-for-me.

So you’re basically responsible for making the whole thing from scratch. And do you know what happened the last time I tried to make something from scratch? Everybody who ate the lasagna got sick, and now I don’t get invited to pot-lucks anymore. Food for thought.

Meet the Cryptomotors Habitat-on-wheels – a luxury recreational explorer concept designed for alien planets

Designed as an entry for a competition organized by Cryptomotors, the luxury sci-fi vehicle is basically what you get when you design an RV for another planet. The proportions of the vehicle may confuse you, but it’s actually a rather massive automobile with wheels that are easily 7-feet in diameter. The purpose of the vehicle was to serve as a purpose-driven luxury habitat on wheels. Spacious enough to host 2 people, it’s almost like a living space and laboratory on wheels… with a design that oozes futurism.

The Cryptomotors sci-fi vehicle (let’s just call it an extraterrestrial RV) comes with a chariot-like design, sporting a split wheel-base on the front. Its cockpit is reminiscent of the geodesic habitats often seen in sci-fi movies, large enough to fit two astronauts in and have them comfortably standing while they analyze soil samples or just go about their day (I just realized I really don’t know what astronauts do on foreign planets beyond exploration and science-stuff). The wheels are extremely interesting too – apart from being much larger than you’d expect, they’re made from a chainlink-mesh that NASA calls the ‘Spring Tire‘.

Giant Inflatable Rocketship Sprinkler: For an Out of This World Good Time

Fun in the sun: it’s hands down one of my favorite kinds of fun, third only to fun in the shade, and fun inside playing video games. And what better way to enjoy some fun in the sun than running around in a sprinkler? Enter the Inflatable Backyard Rocketship Sprinkler from Funboy and available on Amazon (affiliate link). Just let me mix up a blender of margaritas real quick and I’m ready to party.

The rocketship stands a very respectable 7.5′ tall and has four separate water sprinklers around its circumference for 360-degree coverage, so as long as you’re standing nearby, you’re getting wet. I can already hear my wife yelling at me for running through the house before drying off.

Just don’t forget to wear sunscreen when you’re out playing in the sun. Because I forgot to wear sunscreen at the beach last year and the back of my ears got burnt. Then for the rest of the trip, I couldn’t tell if they were burning because somebody was talking about me or because of the actual sunburn. It made for a very confusing vacation.

Solar System Chocolate Truffle Set Looks Out of This World

Crafted by Martin’s Chocolatier of the UK, this $20 Chocolate Planets gift set (affiliate link) includes nine different chocolate truffles, each representing a planet in our solar system, plus the Sun. Personally, I would have forgone the Sun and included Pluto instead, but they surprisingly didn’t ask my opinion before bringing the product to market. I’m as shocked and outraged as you are. Planetary lollipops more your cup of tea? No worries, those exist too.

Each planet is a different flavored truffle, including orange cream, chili/cherry ganache, peach cream, praline cream, caramel salt, praline, mocha cream, blueberry ganache, and toffee caramel. Obviously, I’m going to refrain from making jokes about the flavor of Uranus, because, as my wife often utters (while rolling her eyes) in front of friends after I’ve said something entirely inappropriate, “Oh grow up, will you?”

At nearly $2 per planet, I’d almost feel bad eating them. Almost. Then I’d eat them all in one sitting, barely pausing to notice the flavors because that’s just the sort of devourer of worlds that I am – one without any self-control.

This Outer Space Music Box Is Out of This World

Do you love all things outer space? Enjoy a trip to the heavens every time you wind up this interplanetary music box, currently available from Coolthings Australia for $100. At its center is a wooden model of Saturn, surrounded by tiny space shuttles, astronauts, and satellites.

I didn’t know we had any satellites in orbit around Saturn, but hey, the aliens on the ringed planet need their DirecTV and Dish Network shows too! Each music box is handcrafted, and plays the tune Emperor (Concerto, Op 73 No. 5), which I can only imagine is a reference to Emperor Palpatine and his quest for interplanetary domination. Freeze-Dried Candy: For Topping Your Astronaut Ice Cream

Because nothing says I’m eating like an astronaut like freeze-dried foods, this is the collection of freeze-dried candies available from Etsy shop Stellar Rabbit Foods. Available in Rainbow Puffs (Skittles), Worm Puffs (gummy worms), Mega Blasts (Starburst) and Tart Puffs (SweetTARTS) varieties, each 1-ounce bag costs $8 and is sure to put a smile on your face, and a cavity in that smile.

Just what does the freeze-drying process do to candy? Well according to the company, it “transforms once chewy candies into an airy, light, crunchy and melt in your mouth texture. I think it goes without saying I just ordered a bag of each.
