This $4.2 Million Gold Tree is All Blinged Up for Christmas

Christmas Tree Bling

‘Tis the season to be jolly! It’s officially less than a month before Christmas, so hang up the mistletoe and pin your stockings by the fire if you haven’t already.

Now that we’ve gotten the obligatory holiday reminders out of the way, let’s play another round of ‘What Would You Do if You Had $4 Million?’ Would you buy a fancy sports car or move to a bigger apartment? Would you donate a chunk of it to charity or buy a jewel-encrusted watch for yourself? Or would you rather blow all that money on a revolving tree that was molded by ten craftsmen using 40 kilograms of pure gold?

The tree has a whimsical feel to it, with every tier is adorned with a bunch of instantly-recognizable Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Tinkerbell, and Cinderella. But is it worth a cool $4.2 mil for you?

The 8-foot tall tree is currently on sale at Ginza Tanaka for the hefty sum we mentioned above. A smaller 25-centimeter version of the tree is also available for the still not-so-affordable price of $243,000.

Cocoon Tree Tent Looks Like a Ball

It wasn’t until recently that I realized that sleeping while hanging from the trees was a popular pastime. However, I guess that hanging tree tents not only give you a cool place to rest, but get you up off the ground and away from critters that can’t climb up and into your hovering outdoor domicile. The latest in the growing genre of tree tents is the Cocoon Tree.

This 3-meter (~9.84 feet) diameter, orb-shaped luxury tent is built from 24 curved aluminum rods which form the sphere, and then are covered with cloth to keep you sheltered from the elements and the insects.

The whole rig weighs about 132 pounds, plus the weight of its occupants. The tent is suspended from sturdy tree trunks using hefty polyester rope, designed to hold up to 1.6 tons each. Plus, there’s a security net that can be suspended beneath just in case anything happens to the tent. Inside the Cocoon is a large circular bed that’s got enough space to sleep two adults, or even a couple and two small children.

Once securely inside, roll-up mosquito netting keeps the bugs out, but lets light in. In addition to “in the tree” mounting, the Cocoon can be intalled on the ground, with lunar lander-like feet, floated on a platform, or even attached to a floating inner tube that lets you bob around the water.

Pricing and availability for the Cocoon Tree hasn’t been announced yet, but you can find out more about it over on the project’s website.

Also, if you get out the grey paint, you can make it look like a Death Star.

Basketball Tree Makes Sure There’s a Hoop for Everyone

Basketball is one of my favorite sports, although that doesn’t mean that I’m necessarily good at it. For the most part, I enjoy watching people play, probably because most of the shots I throw up end up being air balls.

I was down at the local park the other day when I saw this shorter-than-average kid try to make a lay-up. He always ended up being short because of his height, so when I saw this Basketball Hoop Tree, he immediately came to mind.

Hoop Tree
These basketball trees are perfect for playgrounds and I wish every public place where people go to play ball had one of these.

It allows people of all heights to enjoy a fun game of basketball, although I think that fourth ring at the top is positioned just a bit too high for comfort. What do you think?

Tree Bookcase Grows Books, Not Leaves

Over the past few months, I’ve been trolling eBay for fantastic deals on graphic novels and comic book lots. I’ve bought so many books over the past few months that I’m now in the market for a new bookshelf. If space weren’t an issue, I’d totally go for one of these Tree Bookcases.

Tree BookcaseThis bookcase concept was designed by Roberto Corazza. It’s a sight to behold, isn’t it? It obviously draws inspiration from trees, showcasing their beauty amidst their imperfection. The shelves aren’t straight, so it’s not a very space-maximizing bookcase. The cubbies are also sized oddly, so some of your books might fit while others might not.

Based on the images, I’d say the Tree Bookcase would only be made possible if it were wall-mounted, because there’s no way that tiny base would make the entire thing stable enough to hold a number of books at the top.

Or maybe it could work, if Robert didn’t mean for it to be stocked up with books in its entirety.
