Next Major Windows Phone Update Coming By End Of 2013

It looks like we have some details on when the next major Windows Phone update will be released, and it looks like it will be by the holiday season, IE before Christmas of 2013.

The news comes from a Microsoft Careers website, with a job listing for a software development engineer for Windows Phone, and the listing has revealed that the next major Windows Phone update will land before the end of the year.

The Engadget Interview Microsoft's Greg Sullivan on Windows Phone at MWC 2013

We caught up with Greg Sullivan -- senior product manager of Windows Phone -- for an early morning chat during Mobile World Congress. He was kind enough to give us an update on the state of Microsoft's mobile OS, which has apparently experienced a four-fold increase in sales since version 8 launched last fall and is taking share away from Android in the UK. We discussed the delightful user experience provided by lower-end Windows Phone 8 handsets like Nokia's Lumia 620 and asked how Microsoft plans to satisfy power users at the higher-end of the spectrum who are still missing critical features such as proper notifications, quick settings and CalDAV / CardDAV support (to name a few). It's clear that the company's aware of these shortcomings and is working to remedy most of them in a future release. We also talked about the ecosystem, what Microsoft is doing to improve app quality, how it meshes with Windows 8 / RT and whether the company is looking to expand its partnership beyond existing device manufacturers. HTC's 'Tiara' crowns a medium spec, Windows Phone 8 GDR2 device

Trust. It's a valuable commodity. But serial twitter-sleuth evleaks has done enough to earn ours for this latest leak. A Windows Phone 8 device -- apparently known internally as the Tiara -- which will be one of the first to run the next revision of the mobile operating system (GDR2). With a reported 4.3-inch display, a 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera and 1GB of RAM, it bears more than a resemblance to another recent addition to the HTC fold. If you had hopes that it might also borrow from the firm's latest Android flagship design, then sorry to dash them, as the sources suggest otherwise. The Tiara moniker is unlikely to remain, with evleaks taking a stab at it coming to market mid-May, possibly as the HTC 8W. Not a bad guess. Now it's just a matter of waiting to see if all that trust is truly well placed.

Nokia recently announced a number of new Windows Phone 8 smartphones, which include the Nokia Lumia 720 and the Nokia Lumia 520 and now we have some details on when both devices will be available SIM free in the UK.

Both the Nokia Lumia 720 and the Nokia Lumia 520 will be available in the UK SIM free from the 1st of April, the Nokia Lumia 720 will retail for £299.99 including taxes and the Nokia Lumia 520 will retail for £169.99 including taxes.

HTC Tiara Windows Phone 8 Smartphone Specs Leaked

It would appear that HTC has a new Windows Phone 8 smartphone in the works, the HTC Tiara, and it will be one of the first handsets to run Windows Phone 8 GDR2, unfortunately we do not have any pictures of the handset just the rumored specifications.

The HTC Tiara is rumored to feature a 4.3 inch WVGA display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, and processing will come in the form of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.2GHz dual core processor.

Twitter Windows Phone update brings it ‘in line with other Twitter apps’

Twitter has finally given some love to its Windows Phone app, a change the company promises will put it "in line with other Twitter apps." On the docket are changes to the UI and a slew of new features. The app now offers tabs for Home, Connect, Discover and Me, making it easier to keep up with your feed and mentions around the Twittersphere. Also new are Tweet and Search icons, which let you perform those activities from anywhere in the app. And those who hate going to the trouble of opening the app the old fashioned way can pin searches and lists to their phone's start screen now, thanks to a new Live Tile update. Nokia Here Maps And More Now Available To Windows Phone 8 Users

Nokia has now made its range of mapping software for Windows Phone 8 available to all Windows Phone 8 users, the software was previously only available to owners of Nokia’s Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices.

Nokia is now offering its HERE Maps, HERE Drive and HERE Transit software for free to all Windows Phone 8 devices, and the software includes mapping, turn by turn navigation and transit information.

Huawei Ascend W1 Lands On O2 UK March 7th

O2 recently announced that the new Huawei Ascend W1 Windows 8 smartphone would be available on their network in the UK some time in Match, and now we have a launch date for the device.

The Huawei Ascend W1 will be available from O2 UK from the 7th of March, this is for the electric blue version of the handset,the pink version of the Ascend W1 will be available from the 18th of March.

Nokia Lumia 521 Announced For T-Mobile

Earlier today Nokia announced the Nokia Lumia 520, and now US mobile carrier T-Mobile has announced a version of the device that will be available exclusively through T-Mobile, the Nokia Lumia 521.

The Nokia Lumia 521 will share similar specifications to the T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 521, which will include a a 4 inch IPS display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, and a dual core 1GHz Snapdragon processor.

Nokia Lumia 720 Promo Video Released

Earlier today Nokia announced a number of new Windows Phone 8 smartphones, one of those was the new Nokia Lumia 720 and now Nokia have released a promo video for the Nokia Lumia 720.

The Nokia Lumia 720 features a 4.3 inch CleakBlack display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, and processing is in the form of a dual core 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
