Final Fantasy Ultimate Box Gives You All 13 Games for $450

Do you love the Final Fantasy games? I don’t just mean love. I mean, are you obsessed with the franchise? Do you collect all of the merchandise? Well, here’s the ultimate package to feed your obsession. To celebrate 25 years, Square-Enix(JP) has packaged together all of its core Final Fantasy titles into a single box set.

You’ll not only get discs for Final Fantasy I through Final Fantasy XIII, but you also get a numbered presentation plaque with new artwork from character artist Yoshitaka Amano, a two-disc soundtrack and a commemorative DVD. It will cost you 35,000 yen, (~$450USD). To play all of the games, you’ll need a PlayStation, a PlayStation 2, a PlayStation 3 and a PSP.

It will arrive in Japan on December 18th, but sadly it probably won’t go on sale internationally any time soon, so the rest of us will just have to deal and whine about it.

OUYA partners with Square Enix, names Final Fantasy III as launch title

OUYA partners with Square Enix, names Final Fantasy III as launch title

We've been saying for a while now that a large deal of the success of Kickstarter blockbuster OUYA will hinge on the console's game selection. News just got a fair bit brighter on that front -- particularly for RPG fans. The company announced via its Kickstarter page (as per usual) that it has partnered with Square Enix. The first fruits of that burgeoning relationship will be Final Fantasy III, making the game a launch title for the console. The company is promising that the title will be "updated to exploit OUYA's high-definition resolution in glorious graphic detail" -- and, as is OUYA's M.O., players will be getting a free demo of the game. Oh, and for those keeping track, the product's Kickstarter page is currently at a mind-boggling $5,820,345 with eight days to go.

Final Fantasy III Monopoly: Go and Collect 200 Gil

I was happy enough to see Final Fantasy III getting some love with the dialog box magnets, but it seems I haven’t been looking hard enough. Here’s an even more impressive homage, a cross stitched Final Fantasy III Monopoly board, complete with game tokens.

final fantasy iii monopoly

The board was made by Sprite Stitch forum member jadely for the forum’s Big Swap, where members exchange handmade gifts with each other. I wonder if they accept stick figures drawn on tissue paper. That’s my specialty. The board also comes with community cards and deeds, although they’re printed on paper and not cross stitched. Also of note is that the characters are also the properties. I’m not sure any of them would like the idea of being sold and owned. I’d buy Interceptor in a heartbeat though.

Head to the Sprite Stitch forums to see the original images, and while you’re there check out the other Monopoly board that jadely’s been working on, a Nintendo-themed one.

Final Fantasy III Dialog Box Magnets: Refrigerator Relics

Relive the glory days of the Final Fantasy series with these Final Fantasy III (aka Final Fantasy VI) dialog box magnets. Those were the days when characters were interesting and not annoying, when you knew who your actual enemy was and were not treated to surprise boss switcheroos, when you could understand what the hell anyone was talking about. Dammit Square what happened?

The magnets are made of acrylic, and although it looks like it at first glance, the text is not printed on paper. It’s actually etched into the blue surface coat, and there’s even a drop shadow on each character, just like in the game. You can choose to buy magnets that contain actual dialogue from the game or send your own quotes. If you choose the former you’ll see that the line breaks are exactly how they appear in the game.

Ride a flat airship and head to Abecediary on Etsy to order the magnets. Prices range from $6 to $20 (USD) depending on the type and number of magnets.

Phoenix Down Pendants & Charms: So That’s What it Looks Like

Buried among the billions of Snow White and Iron Man MacBook Pro decals in the great marketplace known as Etsy, an intrepid customer may come upon a handful of small bottles with elegant caps and accents. But as with most bottles, the real treasure lies within. Tufts of feathers so crimson you’ll think they were strands of fire: the fabled Phoenix Down. They could also just be chicken feathers dyed red. Or Iron Man MacBook Pro decals ripped to shreds.

Magical they are not, but these pendants and charms are powerful enough to revive your style. They’re certainly better than tent or cottage pendants.  Most of them have a winged accent and findings made of pewter, while the simpler ones have cork stoppers.

Summon a Chocobo and ride to Geek OUTlet’s Etsy shop to buy your own Phoenix Down charms and pendants. Prices range from $12-$25 (GIL) (USD). If Cloud only had Internet access… then maybe Aeris wouldn’t have died.
