Your father wanted you to have this. It is the true weapon of a Jedi knight. Well… not the true weapon, those are dangerous. This one is soft. You are just an infant after all. You have a long way to go before you can wield a real lightsaber, my tiny padawan. If you don’t stop drooling and pooping yourself you will never be ready. Here, just take this plush lightsaber.
Etsy seller meowadays makes these adorable plush yarn lightsabers to start training your younglings in the ways of the Force. Each one is 7.5″ tall and you can get them in blue, green or red – depending on which side of the Force you’re rooting for. They are only $25(USD).
Hollywood Reporter reported on Friday that Lupita Nyong’o, the Academy Award-winning actress from 12 Years A Slave, might be talking to J.J. Abrams about a role in the upcoming Star...

When closed up and stowed, these tongs look like Darth Vader’s red lightsaber. They’re perfect for flipping over your meaty foes on the grill, and even make the proper lightsaber sound effects too.
Sith Lords can head on over to TheFowndry to pre-order a set of lightsaber tongs for £19.99(~$33 USD). They ship in April, just in time for grilling season. While you wait, I’m sure you’ve got a new Death Star to work on anyhow.
If you have been reading Technabob for a while, you might recall back in 2012 when we mentioned some Star Wars lightsaber umbrellas that had surfaced. When these things first hit the market, they went for over $60 each, which is way too much money if you ask me. Our favorite seller of all things geeky, ThinkGeek, now has its hands on three versions of the Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrella, and they are much more affordable this time out.
ThinkGeek has the Darth Vader, Obi-wan, and Yoda versions of the lightsaber umbrella for $35.99(USD). That is money well spent to stay dry. The shaft of the umbrella is anodized in the correct color for the blade of the saber when you open it.
The Yoda version is green, Vader style is red, naturally, and the Obi-Wan version has a blue shaft. Each of the hilts is styled after the lightsabers used in the films. The umbrellas also have a silk-screened logo for the Jedi or Imperial forces and come with a shoulder holder.
These won’t protect you from ice storms on Hoth, but they might be good for those rainy days in the swamps of Dagobah.
If you are a fan of Star Wars that also wants to keep dry in the rain, ThinkGeek has unveiled a slick new product that you might like. The new product is called the Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrella....
I have always thought swords were pretty cool. In fact, I used to take fencing, if only because no one taught kendō in my area. If you have ever picked up a stick and started a mock sword fight with someone, you know that your foes tend to become liars quickly. Even if their knuckles are bleeding, they will deny being hit by your sword/stick.
Sabertron is working on a new sword fighting system that takes away the ability for your opponent to lie in this way. The swords keep track of hits and can tell the difference between a person and another sword. According to its makers:
Sabertron uses wireless communications to determine when two swords have clashed. If a player strikes the ground, the microcontroller can ignore the strike because the sword is tilted down at an angle. If a player strikes a tree, a bystander, or the player’s self, the microcontroller will detect those objects as the opponent. This is a limitation and players must agree to be honest. This limitation will be removed in follow-on products that support Melee Mode, by utilizing proximity detection circuits. It is possible that the initial reward product supports this mode, depending on the production changes to bring Sabertron to the masses, but is not guaranteed.
Each sword comes complete with sound effects and LED lights that count down the points until victory or defeat. Initially, you’ll only be able to get versions looks like a lightsaber, but if they should exceed $500,000 in orders, they’ll also offer a medieval blade. Down the road, they hope to release accessories that allow for multiplayer melee battles.
If you want a pair, you’ll need to pledge at least $125(USD) over on Kickstarter to get in on the sword-swinging action when they launch. Delivery is estimated for Fall 2014.
Bored with the usual crop of power banks that are available in the market? If you’re a huge fan of Star Wars and are looking for something other than the usual rectangular power banks, then you might want to check the Star Wars Darth Vader Lightsaber Battery Charger. It essentially looks like the handle of a lightsaber, with the microUSB ports located at its base.
Since it is a lightsaber charger, it also has LED light that glows red with the flick of a switch. So you can, you know, play pretend once in a while when you’re bored and when you need to recharge the power bank or charge up any of your devices.
The Star Wars lightsaber power bank packs in 2800 mAh of power onboard. It’s priced at $49.
You have always wanted to juice up your gadgets through the power of the force and now is your chance. This Star Wars Darth Vader Lightsaber Portable Battery Charger can make that dream a reality. This may be the sweetest battery charger ever.
Inside is a 2800 mAh lithium-ion battery which should be good for charging up your smartphone for at least a few hours. In addition, this elegant weapon from a more civilized age is also illuminated by four bright red LEDs.
I just love the detail on this charger. It is only about six inches-long, but don’t judge it by it’s size. The power of the Force is mighty.
It’s perfect for powering up your gadgets or having duels, whichever comes first. It sells for just $49.90(USD) from Brando.
Silly me. I’ve been waiting all my life for a Jedi Master to show up and teach me how to build a lightsaber. Turns out all I needed was this infographic from electronics supplier Newark. Well, it will build you a lightsaber replica, not an actual lightsaber, but it is still awesome.
It just takes a few basic tools and pieces of hardware. Before you know it, you will be swinging away in a saber battle. This is a great way for people who are just getting started with projects like this to build something really cool.
Obviously, you can order the electronics you need from Newark. Build it and feel the power of the force!
We’ve already seen Etsy seller Philip Isherwood’s Saberforge Battle Sabers, a series of very original prop weapons. While I’m still researching how he came up with his utterly unique designs, Philip already upped the ante. He’s now making Saberforge Staffs, which have not one but two blades. This changes everything. This guy is a genius. A genius I say!
Philip is well aware that his props are used by people who like to play both heroes and villains, so he again fired up his innovation engine and came up with two distinct designs. The Decimator Staff, shown above, looks unmistakably evil, while the Grand Master Staff, shown below, is for those who (pretend to) fight for good. Philip’s imagination truly knows no bounds.
Seriously though, these seem like durable and beautiful props. Not only do they have aircraft-grade aluminum handles, they also have force- and motion-sensitive sound effects, meaning they play appropriate audio effects when swung and when their blades clash. Speaking of clashing, the staff’s coupler can be removed if you want to dual wield or share a saber with a friend. Each staff comes with two sets of blades, a pair of 36″ blades and a pair of 32″ blades. A 10w dual-color LED on each hilt provides the lighting.
Here’s Philip demonstrating the Decimator Staff…
…and the Grand Master Staff:
If you’re ready to take your pretend interstellar armed conflicts to the next level, head to Philip’s Etsy shop Saberforge. The staffs cost $850 (USD) each.
