Tesla Model S Remote Control App for Android Wear: Now That’s a Cutting Edge Phrase

Bnotions made an app that only a handful of people on Earth are capable of using. It’s called Tesla Command, an app for Android Wear devices that lets the user toggle or activate some of the features on the Tesla Model S. It’s not quite as functional as the official Tesla mobile apps, but if Android Wear devices become more common this could be a more convenient alternative. Also it’ll make you look awesome.

Here’s Tesla Command in action:

Tesla Command is available for free from the Google Play store. As I said, Tesla’s official apps can do much more than Tesla Command, but Bnotions said on its Facebook page that it will keep adding functions to its app.

Star Trek Phaser Remote Control Zaps TV Programs Back to the Delta Quadrant

ThinkGeek has just revealed one of its big toys for this year’s SDCC, and it’s a doozy. I always have thought of my TV remote as a zapper of sorts, so it only makes sense that you’d use a phaser to change channels. So I give you, the official Star Trek Phaser Universal Remote Control.

Designed using 3D laser scans of one of the rare original prop phasers from The Original Series, this impressive 1:1 replica is made from nickel and brass-plated die cast metal, and comes with a magnetic metal stand. You can even detach the Phaser I component from the Phaser II section.

The remote not only can be used for fun, flashing in colors, emitting phaser and Enterprise sound effects, and providing vibration feedback, but it also works as a remote control for pretty much any infrared-compatible electronics. When used as a remote, you use flick and tilt gestures to change channels, skip audio tracks or adjust volume. In total, the remote can store up to 36 commands. It’s even got a built-in TV-B-Gone sort of circuit which lets you zap off just about any TV you point it at. I’ve also been told it stuns Klingons, but don’t tell anyone you heard it from me.

The Phaser Remote comes packed in a durable hard case, with custom moulded foam inserts, and a Starship Enterprise screwdriver for attaching or removing its pistol grip.

ThinkGeek will be showing off the remote at San Diego Comic Con in booth #3849. They expect to start shipping in November for $150(USD).

Flying TIE Fighter Quadcopter Is Ready to Chase X-wings

Now the circle is complete. A few weeks ago we told you about Rodger Cleye’s amazing X-Wing Tri-rotor. Now he is back with an Advanced X1 TIE Fighter quadcopter. Can a Death Star chase featuring these two ships be far behind?

tie fighter Advancedmagnify

Vader would be so proud. Rodger built his TIE Fighter to compliment his X-Wing and it uses the same propulsion system as his Marty McFly project. The frame is constructed with PVC again and each motor outputs about 1HP, since it pretty heavy.

He says that as soon as he trains another pilot, he will try to get footage of the “the chase”. What about the Falcon swooping in at the end? I don’t wanna sound greedy, but… let’s be screen accurate, Rodger.

This RC Car Does 188mph, And No, Not To Scale

rc-bullet

The little vehicle you see in the picture has reached the record speed of 188.87mph. It’s called the R/C Bullet and that’s the actual speed it reached, not its scaled equivalent. We don’t have much by way of details though, aside from being able to tell you that it’s made by one Nic Case, who appears to have been in the business of making record-breaking RC cars for some time now. Back in 2008 he had the record for fastest RC car in the world with the Schumacher Mi3, which you can actually purchase, unlike the Bullet.

R/C Jet-Powered Dragon Shoots Flames and Burns Wallets

Dragons are a staple of fiction and are found in books, video games, and movies. The fire-breathing dragon is something that never existed as a real animal, but you can have your very own flying dragon.

After seeing Rick Hamel’s amazing remote-controlled dragonHammacher Schlemmer is now offering it for you to purchase.

This dragon can do more than fly, it can shoot 3-foot flames out of its mouth. That can’t be legal. The flying dragon has a 9-foot wingspan and can fly at up to 70 mph. Power comes from a tiny turbine engine and the dragon is controlled by a 2.4GHz radio. The flame that shoots from its mouth is made using a propane tank. At least the propane tank can’t shoot flames while the dragon is flying. The flames are only for the ground.

I can only imagine the fiery explosion that will result from a high-speed crash of this thing. If you have $60,000 lying around, the flying, flame-breathing dragon can be yours.

DIY Motorized Couch: Ridin’ Lazy

Back in 2010 Nick Homer and his college buddy Stewart Clyde made headlines because of their silly invention: a remote-controlled motorized couch. Now Nick is working on a comprehensive guide for couch potatoes who have a very slight need for speed.

As with the original ride, Nick’s guide will consist of combining an electric wheelchair base with a loveseat. If you get both of those components used – and you should – the whole thing should cost you only about $150 (USD). Nick claims that his guide will have you napping in motion in just a few hours.

Lie down on your browser and head to Kickstarter. You only need to pledge $2 to gain access to Nick’s online guide, which will include videos, FAQs and recommendations for the supplies.
