Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Collector’s Edition Has a Tiny Musical Chest: Ta Da Da Da!

You can buy an unofficial life-sized replica of the treasure chests from The Legend of Zelda. It turns out there’s also an official replica of said treasure chest, except it fits in the palm of your hand. The musical treasure chest will be included in the collector’s edition of the upcoming Nintendo 3DS game The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

The treasure chest can store up to five 3DS cartridges.

It emits the classic melodic fanfare when you open it, as demonstrated by The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma and Nintendo President Satoru Iwata in the Vine video below (be sure to turn on the sound)…

I’m not sure if the collector’s edition will be released globally, but it’s available for pre-order in the UK via Game, in Spain via Game as well and in Australia via EBGames. Aside from the chest, the limited edition bundle will also come with a poster and a Nintendo eShop download code for the Game Boy classic The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

When artist Olly Moss first posted images of his video game-themed dinnerware, the Internet exploded with so much want. If you’re one of those people who coveted his geeky take on the Willow pattern, you’re in luck. The plates are on sale, but only for a very short time.

In case this is the first time you’ve heard of these plates, they look like something your grandparents would use from afar. But if you look closer you’ll see that the plates feature scenes from either Pokémon or The Legend of Zelda.

If you owned a Nintendo GameCube, odds are you played one of the most popular games available on that system called the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. This games all players playing as a boy from an island whose sister was kidnapped by a massive bird. That boy, Link, commandeered a sailboat and went on a quest to save his dear sister.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker: The Birthday Cake

Nintendo remade The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker in high definition for their sinking ship the Wii U. Nerdache Cakes on the other hand remade the game’s characters in edible 3D. Her lucky customer had cel shading and ate it.

Nerdache Cakes said that “the whole ship is cake, while the King of Red Lions is carved foam and chocolate.” Mmmm, foam.

Woman Hacks The Legend of Zelda, Makes Zelda the Hero: Warrior Princess

Like many of us, animator Kenna W. read about the Dad who hacked Donkey Kong so his daughter could play as Pauline and save Mario. The story reminded Kenna of how, as a kid, she was bummed out that she never got to play as Zelda in The Legend of Zelda. So she made her own wish come true.

Kenna made a custom patch that makes Zelda the hero of The Legend of Zelda. She then used that patch to edit a ROM of the game. Kenna used a sprite editor called Tile Layer Pro to animate and replace Link’s sprites with the Hylian princess’ sprites. Her boyfriend wrote a Python script that allowed her to change the color of Zelda’s dress as well as edit the text on the game’s opening and closing scrolls.

Finally, the moment you’ve been waiting for. Are you ready Zelda fans? Here it is, Kenna playing as Zelda!

This reminds me of the dad who hacked the text in Wind Waker for his daughter. Head to Kenna’s blog to find out more about her patch and how you can experience playing as Zelda as well.
