Microsoft are expected to launch the Windows Phone 7.8 update some time early next year, we have already see the software running on a couple of devices and now the Windows Phone 7.8 update has been leaked for the Nokia Lumia 800 and the Lumia 510.

The guys over at MyNokiaBlog have managed to get their hands on the Windows Phone 7.8 update for both devices and it brings a number of new features to both handsets.

Windows Phone web store opens in 37 new countries, adds universal search, and supports installing apps via SD card

If you had any doubts about Microsoft's efforts to actually make an impact with Windows Phone 8, let this address them. After announcing that it'd be maintaining a full staff to certify apps through the holiday period, the outfit has just revealed that its web store for apps / games is now open in 37 new locations around the globe. (You can find the full list after the break.) All told, that makes 112 supported nations, complementing the phone store that's available now in 191 markets.

As for other changes? First off, universal search is being added -- instead of having to go one place to find apps and another to search for how-to articles, you'll now see all these search results in one place. The web store has also gained support for installing apps via SD card, which Microsoft points out could be useful when a solid cellular or WiFi connection is nowhere to be found. Google Has No Plans To Build Apps For Windows Phone 8

If you have been waiting for some of Google’s popular applications to arrive on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 platform, unfortunately it dooesn’t look like we will be seeing Google apps on Windows Phone 8 anytime soon.

Clay Bavor, who is the product management director at Google Apps recently spoke to V3 and he had the following to say about Google Apps on Microsoft’s mobile platform.

Windows Phone 8 App Submissions Up By 40 Percent

Microsoft has announced that application submissions to their Windows Phone 8 platform have increased by 40 percent, and as a result of this Microsoft will be accepting app submissions over the holiday period.

Microsoft have said that they will have full staff on over the Christmas period to deal with Windows Phone 8 app submissions, and developers can continue to submit their apps over Christmas.

Samsung ATIV S Lands In The UK This Friday

We recently heard that the new Samsung Ativ S would go on sale in the UK before the end of the year, and now according to the guys over at Clove, the handset will go on sale in the UK tomorrow the 14th of December.

The Samsung ATIV S will retail for £442.80 including taxes, this is the SIM free version of Samsung’s new Windows Phone 8 smartphone, and the device s powered by a dual core 1.5GHz processor and it features a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display with a HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

HTC 8X Gets Windows Phone 8 WiFi Fix Software Update

Microsoft has released a new software update to Windows Phone 8 on HTC’s Windows Phone 8X smartphone, and the update brings a couple of bug fixes as well as some new features to the HTC 8X.

The update is designed to fix the WiFi issue that we heard about previously on the HTC Windows Phone 8X, plus three new features, which include the ability to reject calls with an SMS.

Microsoft Has Sold 4.2 Million Windows Phone Handsets Since October (Rumor)

Microsoft are yet to announce any figures on how many Windows Phone devices they have sold since the launch of Windows Phone 8, although according to a recent report from The Next Web, Microsoft is estimated to have sold 4.2 million Windows Phone devices since October.

Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer recently announced that they had sold four times as many Windows Phone devices since the launch of Windows Phone 8, although he did not give an actual sales figures.

HTC Windows Phone 8S Gets Unboxed (Video)

Last week we heard that the SIM free version of the new HTC Windows Phone 8S was now available in the UK, and now we have a quick video of this budget Windows Phone 8 smartphone being unboxed and we also get to look at some of the features on the handset.
