Target Holiday Toy List 2014 Revealed
Nintendo Amiibo Figures Offer Impressive Detail
When the Skylanders game launched and became crazy popular with kids, it made big money not only on software but also on action figure sales. Each of those action figures was designed so that gamers could place them on the portal and import them into their game to play. We all knew with the success of that game, copies would follow.
Nintendo is set to launch its own line of figures that work sort of like the ones in Skylanders. While the Wii Fit girl looks kind of lame, the others are very detailed and look like something collectors would flip out over.
Check out the close ups of the Metroid, StarFox and Princess Peach figures. They look awesome.
Each of the action figures will sell for $12.99(USD) and the first game to use them will be Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U. Down the road, Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, Yoshi’s Wooly World and Captain Toad Treasure tracker will also integrate with the collectable figures.
Expect these action figures will be out around Christmas. You can pre-order them now over on Amazon.

If Cereals Had Action Figures
Back when I was a kid, the prizes in cereal boxes used to be pretty great, but then some stupid kids had to go swallow their toys and ruin it for everyone. The lawyers intervened, and such began the demise of cereal box toys, and the rise of idiotic crap like online redemption codes. If they still put toys in cereal boxes, I’d hope that they’d look something like these.
Artist Phil Postma of Minion Factory created these awesome mock collectible figures for a series called Cereal Critters. Not only do they look great, but each one comes packaged on a cereal box blister pack.
Phil gets serious bonus points for including Yummy Mummy, though I wish he had done a Fruit Brute one too. That was my favorite. That and Quisp. And Quangaroos. What ever happened to orange-flavored cereal?
If Kellogg’s, Post and General Mills can’t be bothered to put toys back in their cereal boxes, the least they could do is let us mail in box tops for these toys. While we wait patiently for that to happen, stop by Phil’s website to check out the rest of his awesome Cereal Critters.
Batman: Arkham Origins 18-inch Action Figure is Massive
Most action figures are small – maybe 4 to 7 inches tall, but on occasion, you can get your mitts on a very large action figure like this Batman toy from the Arkham: Origins video game. This action figure is 1/4 scale and stands a whopping 18-inches tall.
In addition to being big, the action figure also has 25 points of articulation and weapons that can be placed in his hands. This is clearly not something aimed at little kids, the manufacturer says it’s for people 14 and up.
Weapons that are included with the action figure are the Batarang and grapnel gun with a removable grapnel. The weapons can attach to Batman’s belt. This massive action figure is available now at ThinkGeek for $99.99(USD).
Metal Gear Solid Snake Nendoroid: Clone this Cutie
Watch out Nendoroid Link, an equally cute hero is sneaking up on your territory. Launching this November, the Good Smile Company’s Solid Snake Nendoroid features the super spy as he appears in the PlayStation hit Metal Gear Solid.
This action figure is the first Nendoroid that can be posed in a prone position, one of Snake’s go to sneaking moves. Its accessories are an assault rifle, a handgun, a cardboard box and a low polygon face, a funny homage to his in-game appearance. One of the product images shows him holding a tiny cigarette, but it doesn’t seem like that accessory will be included with the toy.
You can pre-order the Solid Snake Nendoroid directly from the Good Smile Company for ¥4,500 (~$44 USD) or from NCSX for $49.

Tsumikore EVO! Attack on Titan Playset: Fun for the Whole Gigantic, Skinless & Man-eating Family!
Japanese toy maker Happinet has a series called Tsumikore, which consists of figurines that are on all fours. Aside from looking silly – or naughty – the figurines are posed that way to facilitate stacking. The company has released Tsumikore based on a baseball team, Gundam and Ghost in the Shell. This year Happinet released an Attack on Titan-themed Tsumikore.
The set includes a figurine of protagonist Eren Yeager along with eight soldier figurines and a bonus secret figurine. But that’s just half of the set! It also has Titan parts – a head and two hands – three small paper Titan standees and a paper launcher. These accessories give you a variety of ways to play.
Together with the launcher you can use the figurines as ammo and shoot down the paper Titan standees. You can also use the figurines as monster treats and launch them into the Titan’s mouth. Or you can use the Titan’s hands to pick up the figurines. Then put them in the Titan’s mouth. Or use your own hands to put the figurines in the Titan’s mouth.
You can pre-order the Tsumikore EVO! Attack on Titan Mania playset from Japan Trend Shop for $25 (USD) or from Hobby Search for about $19.

PlayStation Optimus Prime & Mega Drive Megatron: Consoles in Disguise
Thanks to the Transformers’ 30th anniversary, we’ve seen Optimus Prime and Megatron turned into glam rockers and bears. Now they’re also video game consoles. Takara Tomy will be releasing limited edition action figures of Optimus Prime as a Sony PlayStation and Megatron as a Sega Genesis aka Mega Drive.
These images of the Autobot leader’s alternate form were taken by Japanese website Radio Kaikan. Prime comes with replicas of the PlayStation’s memory card and its DualShock controller.
Here are Takara Tomy’s shots of its Sega Mega Drive Megatron, which will come with a replica of the console’s controller as well as a Japanese Sonic the Hedgehog cartridge.
Here’s a shot of the arch-enemies for scale:
Takara Tomy will release the PlayStation Optimus Prime early next year, while the 16-bit Decepticon will be available in Japan this Fall. I’ve seen a couple of eBay sellers accepting pre-orders for the Megatron action figure for around $135 (USD) to $139, which for me is a pretty reasonable price, considering these are doubly geeky and will likely be sought after in the future.

They’re Out to Get You: Horror Movie Action Figures
You probably shouldn’t get kids any one of these action figures–unless you want to give them the gift of nightmares. The figures from Funko’s Horror Series features some of the most horror-inducing characters from incredibly popular horror franchises, like Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Pinhead.
Each one is only 3.75 inches tall, but think of that as being almost four inches more than you can take of pure horror. That Sam figure is particularly creepy.
They retail for $10 each.
