The Weapon of Mass Creation

The pen is mightier than the sword… especially when it’s made of titanium! We’ve seen a massive influx of pen designs on Kickstarter, each competing aggressively with another, and it’s our responsibility to handpick the finest designs there are in this category, because with writing instruments, one only deserves the best.

The X-01 pen by Namisu is so focused on being a powerful writing tool, it channels minimalism in a way most luxury pens don’t. The Pen comes in a single material design, with grooves for gripping only where they are necessary. The pen is even devoid of branding because a remarkable writing experience is their brand. The casing of the pen is immaculately machined from a single metal block and you can choose from brass, aluminum (in comet grey and satin black), or satisfy the immortal penman in you by going for the Titanium X-01. Looking nothing short of a futuristic bullet casing, the X-01 comes built for Schmidt’s short rollerball refills (available widely in broad, medium and fine thicknesses).

The X-01 come in absolutely dapper looking jet black boxes (perfect for gifting, I say), and for a little more, you can even get your hands on the leather sleeve cases for the pen. The pens come in different weights, based on the metal. The lighter Aluminum makes for great lengthy writing sessions, while the heavy brass is perfect for signatures. The titanium however gives you the versatility of articulating thoughts, taking long notes, and the occasional signature or autograph.

Let’s remember… the keyboard may be the most popular writing tool today but significant moments are always immortalized in pen…

This Titanium tool will peel ANY and EVERYTHING

The good thing about Kickstarter is the fact that it allows makers to get funded by enthusiastic backers who believe in one sane or even completely insane idea. I’ll leave it to you to judge whether this product fits in the sane or insane category. :)

The Titanium Peeler can peel a goddamn tree. It’s the ultimate peeling device with its titanium body AND blade. Lightweight, ergonomic, and incredibly resilient, you can use the Titanium peeler to peel pretty much anything you please. However we sincerely hope you stick to fruits and vegetables!

The Peeler’s design is clean, simple, and gets the job done incredibly well. The titanium body gives you something solid to hold onto and the titanium blade really puts other blades to shame. The body comes with a depression to rest your thumb in, giving you a good grip and therefore a great peel. Right at the top there’s even a tiny scoop that works well for removing potato-eyes or spots/pockmarks on your fruits and veggies. The bilaterally symmetric design of the peeler allows it to be used by left and right hands in any orientations with absolute ease.

Here’s what’s so special about the Titanium Peeler (enough to warrant it a feature on YD). I’ve mentioned before how Titanium is an incredible material. It’s easy to wash, doesn’t rust, or break, and even doesn’t impart a metallic taste to your food (case in point being the Muncher we featured earlier this year). Now while most your utensils are mass-produced i.e., made using industrial manufacturing processes designed for fast production, the Titanium peeler isn’t. Each peeler is individually machined out of a solid titanium block with utmost and immaculate precision. Designer Warren Simpson is known to be an ‘ace machinist’, working extensively with CNC machining, and the Titanium peeler is a successor to the already wildly successful Titanium Cheese Slicer kickstarter campaign from November last year.

So, is this finally it? Are we officially past the Bronze, Iron, Stainless Steel and Aluminum ages? Let’s hail 2017 as the Titanium Age! Someone cue in that David Guetta song please.

When the Swiss Knife met the Spork

We’ve seen a great amount of multi-tools. Multi-tools shaped as credit cards, as pens, as bracelets. However, these only do one thing. They shrink your toolkit. Multi-tools, given their name, usually don’t go beyond tools, unless it’s the odd nail clipper or the bottle opener… and that makes them great for the tinkerer, the person who needs to fix things. They’re not particularly great for the traveler. Traveling/backpacking/camping have a slightly different set of requirements and an allen-key or a screw driver or a doesn’t do much in those scenarios.

The Muncher by Full Windsor, however isn’t a multi-tool. It’s a multi-utensil. Built for the slightly sophisticated Bear Grylls in you, this little piece of metal fits all the tools you need to survive in the wild. Weighing in at a mere 0.7 ounces (20grams) this bad-boy fits in 10 different pieces of camping equipment into one slick, pocketable mass. The Muncher’s design looks a lot like a spork, but that’s just from afar. On closer inspection you’ll see that apart from being a spoon/fork amalgamation it even cuts, peels, slices, opens, fastens/loosens, and even ignites! Yes, the Muncher comes with a pretty handy flint-stick that allows you to not just start the fire, but even open the tinned food, and eat said food once you’re done cooking.

The Muncher comes crafted in titanium, probably the most appropriate material for something of its nature. Titanium, for one, with its incredible strength makes great blades that don’t lose their edge easily. Titanium is also a wonderful material for making utensils because it doesn’t impart a metallic taste to the food, unlike Stainless Steel or Aluminum. It’s also known not to rust or catch stains, which means washing up after your dinner date with mother nature is an absolute breeze! Ditch the Swiss Army Knife the next time you go camping. The Muncher is a much better ‘weapon’ of choice!

A Pen that Practically Melts in Your Hand

22p1

Our hands are always working, typing on a keyboard, texting on a mobile device – constant motion. At times, I feel the ache of this constant movement and look for ways to stretch my fingers to lesson the strain. But what I find odd is that the tools I used growing up weren’t all tech tools, but tools like pencils, markers and pens.

I love to draw, and love to use pens to sketch out something on paper. However, I find that after having become accustomed to using my hands with technology, going back to a pencil or pen seems almost foreign, and my hand quickly gets tired from gripping the roundness of my pens. However, now, it looks like there is a solution in the making.

P22 by Pagnotta Design, is a 3D Titanium Pen that when held, feels like it melts into the form of your fingers. Its ergonomic design, optimal weight and balance makes using it extremely comfortable. Made from the same material used in Formula One, Aerospace and the Military, makes the P22 a class above the rest.

Available in both Satin and Mirror finishes, the P22 is also a Green pen, with a near zero carbon footprint – using up to 95% less waste than most pen manufacturing processes. These pens are unique and will be Limited Editions for all pen enthusiasts.

Pinch! Titanium Multitool Is About As Small As They Get

pinch-2

Chalk this one up to efficient minimalism, but we can’t remember the last time we came across a multitool that crammed this many functions in as little a package. The Pinch! Titanium Multitool is able to do 11 different things, yet measures 1.5”x 0.5”, which is small enough to be carried around everywhere. Functions include: wire stripper, bottle opener, mining pry bar, and more. The image below lists them all. A $19 pledge will get you an Early Bird Pinch!, with the price going up to $22 if you’re late to the party.
