Popular To-Do App Wunderlist Shutting Down, Here Are 5 Fantastic Alternatives

Big companies have the habit of taking over popular startups and branding their own names on them. This has happened to a lot of upcoming companies and apps and the same has happened to yet another popular app, Wunderlist. Those of you who don’t know about Wunderlist, it is a cloud-based task management app whose first version came out in 2011. Seeing the popularity of the app, Microsoft bought the company for a sum of around $200 million. Right now, they have over 13 million active users and Microsoft has decided that it is time to pull the plug on Wunderlist.

If you’re an active user of Wunderlist, Microsoft has their very own app now dubbed To-Do which is made by the same team that brought you Wunderlist. They’re also creating an importer to import all your lists and stuff to To-Do. But here are 5 Fantastic Alternatives to Wunderlist that you can bet on!

Any.DO

Any.Do might just be your answer to the perfect to-do list app. It currently has around 15 million active users and the reason why it is so popular is because of its lightning fast speed in syncing between all your devices. It is even more popular than Wunderlist and the number of installs from PlayStore is an indication of that. Another reason why you’ll fall in love with this app is because of its simple user interface. Everything is well organized and elegant. Any.DO is not just a list app. It has a calendar, task-list, an inbox, project management tool for teams, a family organizer, daily planner, an area for sticky notes or post-its all wrapped up into an elegantly designed app. Just like the name suggests, you can do anything with Any.DO.

The advantage with Evernote is that you don’t just make lists, you can do a whole lot of other stuff. This includes taking notes as texts, sketches, PDFs and even web clippings, attach Microsoft office files, organize your receipts and other invoices and much, much more. In short, Evernote makes your life easier by a whole lot.

Google Keep

Google Keep is Google’s very own to-do list app and it also has a huge user base. The features on Keep are very similar to the features present on Evernote. The app has the ability to add notes, lists, photos and even voice memos. You can add colors and labels to all your notes to differentiate them and make them look cooler. The best thing is that the app syncs between all your devices, including tablet, computer, smartphone and Android wearables.

Todoist

Todoist is a to-do list app that is very popular among the professionals. They have a lot of intriguing features for professionals like setting goals for projects, collaborating seamlessly between other users and the ability to create sub-tasks, sub-projects and setting priority levels. The app can also integrate with Google Drive, Newton, Zapier and more.

You can sync all your tasks across all the devices and set instant reminders with their sleek calendar and handy widget.

With Cal, Any.DO hopes to bring its productivity magic to calendars (hands-on)

DNP AnyDO Cal handson

When Any.DO -- the brains behind the popular iOS to-do app -- announced Cal for iOS last month, we had high hopes for its take on calendar functionality. Starting today, Cal will be available for download in the App Store, but we had a chance to play with it early to see what it was all about. The app marks the company's initial foray into a full-blown suite of productivity apps (as teased in their press release below), which will include, at some indeterminate point in the future, Any.DO's own e-mail app. Any.DO is determined to hit a home run with its life-management line, but does Cal live up to the hype? Read on to find out.

AnyDO announces Cal, promises a suite of connected life management apps video

It's only been a few hours since we wrote about Any.DO getting redesigned with a fresh new look and logo. The company's also been teasing "a new way to manage your day" on its website. Well it all makes perfect sense now -- Any.DO just announced Cal, a new calendar for the iPhone. The app seeks to change the way we interact with our calendar through location, contact and social integration. Of course it works seamlessly with Any.DO and features the same beautiful and simple design. Cal is still in beta but will be launching later this summer -- better yet, the company's promising a "suite of connected life management apps." Hit the break for the promo video and PR, and try to guess which app will come next (hint: we think it's email).

Any.DO gives iOS and Android apps a fresh look, teases ‘new way to manage your day’

AnyDO gives iOS and Android apps a fresh look, teases 'new way to manage your day'

After expanding beyond its Android roots last year, Any.DO may have managed to become even more popular thanks to adoption from iOS users. But even with the kind praise from suitors, the handy app isn't resting on its laurels: earlier today the Android and iOS versions received an update which features a redesigned look and an all-new logo. Despite bringing a novel UI to the table, both Any.DO apps retain a similar focus on simplicity and intuitiveness -- in other words, you'll still be able to manage to-do lists by heavily relying on quick taps and easy gestures. All updates aside, Any.DO appears to be prepping a new product announcement, as its website is now displaying a message that says it's "about to launch a new way to manage your day." Any.CAL, anyone? We shall find out soon enough.

Any.DO expands outside of Android, brings its handy To-Do tools to iOS and Google Chrome

Chances are some members of Team Android won't be too pleased to share the any.DO goods with the iOS squad, but for what it's worth, you'll always be able to say you had it first. After being a success on Google's mobile OS, any.DO has decided to test out other waters, including making its way to those iPod touches / iPhones / iPads of the world, as well as Google Chrome in extension form. On the iOS front, the app -- which sports a very minimalist, but sleek design -- allows users to add, adjust and edit multiple tasks using a drag-and-drop, gesture-based UI. Meanwhile, the Chrome extension keeps the similar productivity goal, but takes it to the larger screen -- what's best, however, is any.DO allows you to sync all your To-Do's between different devices regardless of OS. Both the iOS application and Chrome extension are free of charge, and you can grab the version best suited for you at either of the source links below.
