Japanese balloon artist Matsumoto-san must be very popular at kid’s birthday parties. The balloon animals he creates are just mind blowing. Mind altering. Eye opening. Reality shattering. Well… they’re very freaking impressive, is what we’re saying. Impressive enough that we saw it fit to include like 50 images, after the jump. For the record, that’s a lot of images on one article. But it’s worth it. This stuff… like, we didn’t even freaking realize you could do things like this with balloons! DARPA Robot Makes Balloon Animals, Pretends It’s Working with Human Bones

DARPA has funded the development of all kinds of crazy killer robots and some of them are pretty impressive, but as far as doing delicate tasks, we are still at the point where they work best if a human is controlling them. RE2 Robotics thinks this is the best approach too, so they made some robot arms that can make balloon animals.

The Highly Dexterous Manipulation System (HDMS) is only half the weight of most robotic torsos, but it doubles the strength of its human operator, making it perfect for military and rescue work. The robot can go into a dangerous situation and do things like disarm a bomb, dig out a survivor and even make balloon animals at kids’ parties. When it tires of that, it can twist us all up like pretzels.

Joking aside, it is truly amazing how this robot can handle such delicate tasks.

So sweet! The Force is strong with this one. These balloon AT-AT walkers were created by Balloon Guy Entertainment and just might be the coolest balloon “animal” ever. The toddler strikes back. Maybe the Empire would have been more successful in the Battle of Hoth if they used inflatable AT-AT’s instead of armored ones. They could just float over the rebel ships. Ok maybe not. I’d love a whole fleet of these but unfortunately I can barely even blow up a balloon, much less tie them up into shapes. Leave that to the experts. (via technabob)
