Genius plastic covers let you play a game of poker on your iPad while concealing your cards

I hope there’s a Battleship version in the works too!

The most obvious convenience with gaming on an iPad is that you can practically play anything on it. You don’t need to go out and physically buy a board game or order cards online. Everything is just an app-install away… although that comes with an obvious caveat – it isn’t easy playing group games on one iPad. The Wonder Cover comes up with a clever little hack to facilitate better group-gaming on the iPad. The covers are just plastic parts that slide onto the tablet, creating a shielded enclosure to allow players to “protect their hand”.

Perfect for card games like Poker and Uno, or even for Scrabble, the Wonder Cover is a nifty way to bring a physical/personal element to a digital gaming experience. Poker-face not included!

The plastic ‘dugouts’ act as physical barriers, preventing other people from seeing your cards. The fact that they can be clipped on anywhere to the side of a tablet makes them accommodate different games and numbers of players. They can also be used on any tablet, working as well on an iPad as they would on a Galaxy tab or a Microsoft Surface Tab.

Game of Phones Encourages Players to Use Their Smartphones

One of the things my dear old wife does that annoys me to no end is to spend half a movie messing with her phone, and then gets mad when I won’t recap everything she missed so she knows what is going on. It’s not like I never use a phone, but too much is too much. If you have a bunch of friends who won’t stay off of their phones, you need this game.

It’s called Game of Phones and in the game, players pick cards that challenge them to do things like showing their best selfie, taking photos of other players, showing funny or bad texts, finding the funniest auto-correct, or telling a fortune using emoji. In all, there are more than 100 task cards.

I bet the game takes like 12 hours to complete because if your narcissist friend gets the best selfie challenge, it will take a LONG time for them to find it. You can grab Game of Phones over at ThinkGeek for $19.99(USD).

You’ll certainly want to delete all those dirty pics and your browser history before you play this one.

Steam Trading Cards: Valve the Gathering

Valve’s Steam platform has earned the loyalty and respect of many desktop gamers because of its progressive online marketplace and social network. The frequent deals and discounts help too. Recently Valve launched a new meta-game designed to keep its members locked in to Steam. It’s called Steam Trading Cards.

steam trading cards

The idea is to collect a complete set of certain cards. To complete a set, you have to spend time playing the supported games and trade cards with other Steam members. Note that you can’t complete a set just by playing or trading alone; you have to do both to be the very best.

When you complete a set, you can use them to craft a badge. These badges are unlike the normal Steam badges. They come with random goodies such as emoticons, profile backgrounds and even DLC or game coupons. If you collect the same set multiple times, the badge of that set levels up. The badge’s image and title changes with each upgrade.

Crafting or leveling up badges also levels up your Steam profile. When you level up, you earn non-tradable items such as extra slots on your friend list. Here’s a demo of the crafting courtesy of YouTuber PlaysVidyaJames:

Steam Trading Cards is still in beta, so as of now it’s only tied with 6 games – DOTA 2, Half-Life 2, Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Don’t Starve. I guess the Beta status also explains the errors and hiccups in the video. Are you ready to play a game about your gaming habits? Then sign up for the Steam Trading Cards Beta on Steam. Read the FAQ as well while you’re at it.

Playing Poker on a Mobile Device

One of the most popular casino games is that of poker. It can be played at just about every casino whether it is online or land based. Thanks to today’s technology, poker can also be played on a variety of mobile phones.

In order for casino games to be played on a phone, the site developers had to create a version that has been optimized for their website. Mobile phones have some different requirements in regard to being able to play casino games. For one, it helps if the site isn’t heavily laden with graphics that must load. Usually when you attempt to enter a particular site, the site is able to recognize which kind of phone you have. This helps it determine which mobile site will display best for your specific phone. For instance, a Blackberry device will have different requirements than an iPhone. If the website fails to do this, there should also be a link present that can help you connect directly to the site.

When playing poker on a mobile phone, it is possible to connect with several other players who are also playing poker on their smartphone devices. It is possible to play poker on your phone anywhere you have a signal. This convenience makes it possible to play poker whenever going to a land based casino or playing online isn’t an option. Typically those who play poker on mobile devices are less involved than other players. The reason for this is that most players enjoying the game on their mobile phones are on the go. They are often multitasking while playing poker on their phone. Knowing this about your opponent can help you try to be more cognizant of what is happening in the game. Pokemon Tretta Arcade Game Coming To Japan: I’m Moving Out

Since Japan can’t help but get all kinds of cool things that the rest of the world can’t have, they’ve decided to further their reputation of being awesome by showing us the Pokemon Tretta Arcade Game.  It will be in Japan in July, and is from the geniuses over at Marvelous AQL.  The game is going to be in stores and game-centers everywhere, and by everywhere, I mean in Japan.  My mom said I could paint my room any color I wanted as long as it was white.  So, I painted my room neon green, and then covered it entirely in toilet paper.  That’ll teach her to give me vague instructions.  ”Aren’t you like 40 years old?

Pokemon Tretta is amazing because it brings the beloved Pokemon cards into conjunction with the most addicting series of games ever created.  (Mass Effect excepted.)  With this cool machine, you can search for Pokemon in those sketchy patches of tall grass and try your best to become the very best.  (Mom always told me that someone would always be better than me, but she lies.  Ash Ketchum does not.)  when you catch a Pokemon, you will be given a plastic card called a Tretta – yes, these are not virtual - they are real.  You can see a few Trettas below -

These cards can then be traded and collected with friends, and are also re-usable in the game – when you slide in the cartridge, it recognizes that you have captured this Pokemon and can use it in battle.  Sounds like way too much fun not to be in America.  Nintendo, you are losing tons of money in sales – why not sell your products to a very eager market?  Seriously!  We’re begging to play with your shiny new things.

If you’re a huge Pokemon fan, like I am, then you’ll also want to check out the Adorable Pokemon Cupcakes and the Guy Who Proposed With A Pokemon Card.  Don’t check out the guy, because he’s married, but you know what I mean.  Don’t try to twist my words, you evil instruments of the biased national media.
