This Wooden Xenomorph Phone Stand Looks Like It’s Been Dead a Long Time

Intricately carved out by Ukrainian woodworker Vadim of Etsy shop bovagu, these wooden xenomorph phone stands are perfect for letting coworkers know you’re a fan of the Alien franchise. Or for trying to convince them you’re an alien headhunter like the Predators. Speaking from experience, though, that’s an uphill battle. These people aren’t as gullible as my nieces and nephews.

The $145 heads are carved from sustainable linden wood, weigh 0.9 lbs, and measure approximately 5.5″ x 12″ x 3.5″. They can also be linseed oiled in different colors if blue isn’t your thing. I want mine to be the limey green tint of xenomorph blood, as seen in the movies. I demand realism!

Admittedly, that’s a sweet phone stand. And to think I’ve gotten by all this time just using a stack of unfinished work documents for a stand while I watch Netflix instead of actually attending to those documents. Fun fact: those papers also double as napkins and emergency tissues!

Watermelon Venom: Deadly Deliciousness

Who doesn’t look at a watermelon and instantly think Venom? It’s hard not to, right? Well instead of just thinking it, Italian sculptor Valeriano Fatica went and made our collective thoughts reality, carving Venom’s head out of a watermelon. I’ll be honest though, that does not look like a tongue I’d want in my ear. Or teeth I’d want nibbling my ear. As a matter of fact just stay away from my ears, Venom.

Valeriano says he works predominately in fruit and vegetables but also dabbles in cheese, clay, and rock. Out of those carvings, I would only eat the first three. Still, who knew you could carve such an impressive bust out of a melon? The only thing I’ve ever done with a watermelon is accidentally swallow a seed and get scared a plant was growing inside my stomach, which my parents said was probably the case. And they wonder why I have trust issues.

Hand-cut Hand Saw Scenes: Cutting Edge Art

You’re looking at a series of old hand saws that have been cut into various scenes of rural living (plus Bigfoot). Cindy Chinn (aka thesawlady) of Chester, Nebraska hand cuts these using a plasma torch. Note to self: buy yourself a plasma torch, you deserve it.

Available for sale through her Etsy shop from $90 to $150 depending on the size of the saw and complexity of the design, each saw is one-of-a-kind. Like people, but way more likely to transmit tetanus.

Obviously, these saws are not for cutting anymore. Their days of working as tools are long gone, now they can just sit back and enjoy their retirement as art. Am I jealous of these saws? Maybe just a little.

I can already imagine a few of these decorating the walls of my vacation cabin, which wasn’t easy because first I had to imagine owning a vacation cabin. Honestly, the daydreaming took a lot out of me, and now I could use a nap.

Cthulhu Carved out of a Watermelon Will Haunt Your Dreams

An ancient horror awakens… and it’s a flavorful summertime treat! Artist Valeriano Fatica recently carved up an amazing sculpture of Cthulhu out of a watermelon. I think he might have been commanded to do this. In his mind. By bad forces. Just a hunch. Once he carves enough of them, he’s going to reanimate them, which is gross because they may be in some people’s stomachs by then, and they will burst forth like something from Alien.

In the time-lapse video below, Valeriano will show you how to carve a Cthulhu watermelon for yourself. Just pay attention to what he does and you can have your very own watermelon of evil. Or simply let the evil guide you. The details are great on this thing, but the tutorial goes a bit fast. You’ll probably want to pause it about a million times, rewind, pause again, rewind and then look over at your creation and wonder why it looks like the Elephant Man. Just keep practicing.

You’ll get there eventually. Even if it takes you like 10 watermelons. Try hard enough, and one day yours can look this good too. Or you can just admire this one and move on with your life.

15 Cool Alien Artworks from Etsy

Are you a huge sci-fi fan? Do you like aliens? Looking for some new, awesome, and beautiful art to hang on your walls? Well, the search is over, because I have a list of fifteen cool Alien artworks from Etsy! Ranging from the incredibly cheap, to the unbelievably expensive, there’s something here for every art connoisseur.

Read on to look at the list!

Space Decal

I love how this isn’t just a decal, but a decal that makes the wall look like its bursting open. I think it’s a very cool effect and the image on the decal is beautiful. It really does transform a living room into a spaceship.

Alien Skull With Tentacles

My goodness, if I told you this was hand carved, would you believe me? It certainly is, and it’s absolutely breathtaking. More spectacular pieces from this same artist also appear on this list, because I just couldn’t look away.

Alien Parody of Famous Painting

We’ve all seen this painting before right? But wait, is that an alien instead of a person? I’ve always been a fan of taking already famous pieces and seeing them altered into something new. It’s a silly painting, but it’s impressive all the same.

Alien Predator Wood Engraving

Another gorgeous wood artwork that I just can’t get enough of. This one is recognizable as a character from the Alien movie franchise. Fitting for an article dedicated to aliens right?

London UFO Invasion Lino Print

I love this unique artwork. I don’t see art like this too often, as its a style that doesn’t seem to be all that popular, but look at its simplicity. It may be simple, but it’s intricate and detailed at the same time. The scene its portraying is great too, an alien invasion on the city of London.

Gray Mass of Tentacles

So when you look at this one, what do you see? I see a gray mass of tentacles, which is why I titled it this way, but the thing is, it’s a bit abstract. Not everyone is a fan of abstract art, but I like how it’s up for interpretation, and that there’s something eerie about this painting.

Cute Little Alien

By far the most adorable piece of art on this list, I had to include for those of you who are looking for less creepy alien artworks. It’s perfect for decorating a child’s room as well. Gosh, I can’t stop thinking about how cute it is.

Creepy Alien Fish

Speaking of creepy, here is one of the creepiest pieces on the list. By the same artist as the Gray Mass of Tentacles, this one isn’t abstract. We can see that it’s a fish, an otherworldly, terrifying fish.

Ancient Alien Guy

Okay, he’s not an alien, I know. But this is an article that’s all about aliens, so I had to include him. He’s one of my favorite memes ever, and here he is on a poster, looking cute as heck. I know I’d hang this on my wall.

Alien Wood Carving

The third wood carving on this list, and once again, I’m blown away by how fantastic it is. Just breathtaking.

Alien Fish Undersea Painting

I absolutely love the colors on this piece. It’s so bright, vibrant, and fun. It reminds me of the Beatles, “Yellow Submarine.” Remember that movie? This is one of my favorite art styles ever.

Alien in Nightgown Painting

Sexy, or scary? You decide. I think it’s mostly scary, but it’s a gorgeous painting as well, and very unique.

Alien Metal Sculpture

Looking at all this art, I am reminded of my lack of artistic talent. Anyway, look at this amazing sculpture! It’s made out of metal! And it’s made out of recycled material.

UFO Hand Embroidered Art

I love the quote on this piece, and I love how it’s made out of fabric. It’s unique in that it’s not a painting or a carving like most of the items on this list, but it’s all embroidered by hand. Very cool.

Alien on Newspaper

The last selection of the list, and a piece that I love very much.

Did you fall in love with any of this wonderful pieces? There’s tons more to dig through on Etsy, so be sure to have a look there!

Guy Turns a Huge Hedge into a Dragon, Takes Ten Years

Many of us have cool projects that we like to work on in our garage or in the yard. Some of them can take a while. But how many projects have you stuck with over 10 years and actually finished? Yeah, that’s what I thought. This guy has you beat.

John Brooker is a master of trimming massive hedges. He has a 100-foot-long, 20-foot-high hedge on his property, and over 10 years he trimmed it into a massive plant sculpture of a dragon. It is magnificent. I guess there are worse ways to spend a decade of your life.

This should scare away any unwanted solicitors. Then again it might just attract some sightseers too.

More Awesomely Detailed Carved Crayons

Not too long ago we saw some carved crayons that looked like Doctor Who’s sonic screwdriver. As cool as those were, they were no match for these new carved crayons from artist Hoang Tran from Wax Nostalgic.

These tiny carved sculptures are so detailed they almost look like they are cast in plastic like an action figure. I particularly like Han Solo and the Beast from the Disney flick Beauty and the Beast is very detailed. The Joker crayon is really cool too.

Each of them is carved out of a real crayon of a color that matches their costume, and then carefully hand-painted to fill in the details. The carved crayons sell for $35 and up, and the artist also offers glass tubes to preserve and display them.

I wonder how long it takes to carve something like this.

Predator Carved out of a Tree: Get to the Wood Choppa!

Predators are the galaxy’s most fearsome and brutal warriors. They will rip your spine clean out, with your skull still attached. And they like to take trophies to remind them of their hunt. So a Predator would just love this tree with a predator head carved into it.

This entire carving took about 90 hours to complete and is the work of one Simon Patel from Walsall, UK. He is one ugly mother! No, not Simon, silly, the tree. Quick get to da choppa! Wait its just a hunk of wood. It’s all cool.

Bonus: his head is flat, so you could give him a different hat every day if you were so inclined. An Abe Lincoln hat, a beanie. Now that would be cool. It would also make this guy far less terrifying.

Chainsaw Carved Dinosaur: Prehistoric Pine

You don’t need the folks from Jurassic Park to bring dinosaurs back to life. You just need Scott Dow of the Animalistic Chainsaw Carving Studio in Corry, Pennsylvania. He brought this one to life. And not with a petri dish and a beaker either. With a good old-fashioned chainsaw.

Look how awesome it is and it’s not even finished yet. Scott has some mad skills with that chainsaw. Now it just needs armor. And laser guns! And a bionic cyber-eye. And laser pistols holstered at it’s side. At least that’s how I would finish it.

What do you think Scott? Make my idea of a dino-warrior a reality? I’ll pick it up next week.
