This cat couch features a folding mechanism that’s designed to keep living spaces fur free

Cat Couch is a foldable couch designed to be human-centered and feline-friendly for cohabitation living spaces.

Even when we buy furniture for our cats, there’s no stopping them from using the couch. Despite how much cats might prefer our living room sofas to their small bolster beds, our couches weren’t made for cats. Layers of shed fur and scratch marks have a way of making our couches feel like huge cat beds.

Noticing the gap between cat-specific furniture and furniture designed for humans, Tomoya Ono conceptualized Cat Couch, a cat-friendly foldable couch designed for cohabitation.

Before conceptualizing Cat Couch, Ono took note that, “Many of the couches’ designs put priority on humans, while most of the cat sofas’ designs only focus on cats. There is a gap between the human lifestyle and the lifestyle of cats.”

With the aim of designing a couch that is equally designed for humans as for cats, Ono found versatility through a foldable structure. Before designing Cat Couch, Ono figured removable cushion fabric and a modular design would provide the conditions needed for easy cleaning when necessary.

Refining the design, Ono integrated wood into the build of the sofa which offered some structural rigidity that gave way to the Cat Couch’s folding mechanism. Wrapped in canvas, the final form of Cat Couch incorporates wooden lids that open and close like toilet seats.

These wooden lids help keep the cushions free from shedding fur and provide backrests for humans when positioned upright. In addition to the multifunctional wooden elements, Ono also designed Cat Couch with built-in scratch pads that provide a designated space for when the feline urge to scratch arises.

The Cat Chair from Myzoo was designed for the modern home so that your cat can enjoy their own play and rest areas without compromising the interior design of your living room or den.

If you’ve ever had a cat, by now you know that your furniture is their furniture. Whether you like it or not, Tu casa es su casa. Providing your cat with its own climbing tower or scratcher usually makes the difference between a clean couch and one covered in fur. Myzoo, a Taiwanese cat furniture brand, revealed their own Cat Chair design that merges practicality with feline comfort to keep the couch fur-free.

The Cat Chair is a hexagonal piece of furniture where your cat can rest and also explore. Made from pinewood and a high-density sponge, the Cat Chair features a small lower compartment with cubby holes on each side of the stool for cats to slink in and out of as they choose. The lower compartment allows room for the cat to hide away and relax in isolation, while the stool’s sponge cushion provides an open space for the cat to lounge or even sunbathe. Cats can weave in and out of the Cat Chair cubby holes or rest atop its sponge cushion. When owners want to join their cats on the floors, the sponge cushion can be removed to become a floor pad.

When positioned together, the hexagonal stools can create labyrinths for cats to explore.

The Cat Chair was designed for the modern home, so the pinewood’s light gradient and the sponge cushion’s powdery fabric can fit into most living spaces, especially the ones with ample natural sunlight. The sponge cushion can even be removed so when you want to join your cat on the floor, you’ll have your own cushioned seat too. The Cat Chair is multifunctional as well, allowing cat owners to use the stool as small coffee tables when not in use. Available with either an optic white or jet black base, the Cat Chair blends into any corner or center space for your cat to lounge and play.

Cats and humans have different needs and both love personal space – so can these two spaces coexist without compromise? InDot Design created a whole modern apartment that revolves around a glass ‘cat cabin’ which is seamlessly integrated into modern interior aesthetics. No more eye-sore cat trees that don’t fit in with your style! The team broke the previous form of partition walls and placed glass boxes in the space to form a spatial field. You can watch your cats while they watch you and both can still have defined boundaries. The cat cabin is like a floating glass box with a circular iron tube as the main support which also serves as a playful element for your pets.

The CMF of glass, wood, and black accents has been maintained with the cat cabin as well as the house so it all looks like one homogenous, open space. The aesthetics are warm, linear, and clean. “On the plane configuration, the living room and study are open, the yellow block at the rear is the cat house, and the red wall is the workspace of the hostess. Use a couch combined with the cat house; we put a glass suspended space in the space so that the layers overlap. The space also has a different sense of penetration,” explains the team.

The suspended cat cabin is measured in size and a viewing platform is deliberately opened in the window to face the views while the ceiling and side of the box are designed with solid wood grilles which are both light and breathable. It extends from the entrance porch cabinet to the living room cabinet. The open behind the sofa is the study room. The seam on the side of the desk is a space where you can move around. Open the wall of the study room and the guest room to form a back-shaped moving line. It is a field of light and shadow, and it has also become a fuzzy zone of the game of life. For as long as they’ve been around, cat towers have been adorned with beige carpeting. Invented in 1968, the first “cat tree” had carpeted perches, boxes, and inclines where cats could look out and observe all the goings-on of their territory. Updating the cat tower to fit today’s interior design standards, designers with Ziel Home Furnishing, a brand enterprise in Zhengzhou, China, have created Watch Tower, a hardwood cat tree that gives the cat tower from the 1960s a modern-day makeover.

While beige carpeting was fashionable when the first cat tower was invented, it has since been swapped for more reserved, minimal designs that feature hardwood accents and stripped-down ornamentation. Watch Tower carries a pretty wide and hefty base, which maintains stability for the rest of the tower. The first tier from the base features a wooden deck shaped like a donut through which cats can climb and jump before heading over to the second tier. Just above the wooden donut deck, cats can saunter their way to the wooden platform that juts out to hover above the ground, where they can hang out and paw at Watch Tower’s ball-on-a-string. Following research done on other models of cat towers, the designers learned that cats enjoy the tower’s top ledge to rest and look out over their home and observe all of its goings-on.

Watch Tower carries just enough understated sophistication to fit into living rooms and play areas where hardwood flooring is the predominant design scheme. Then, its playful design provides just enough entertainment for cats to slowly work their way up the tower for the whole day through. In addition to its adaptive design and entertaining layout, Watch Tower is detachable for easy disassembly and assembly. When the cat deems they’ve had enough time perched away in their observatory, then the whole tower can come apart to be stored away out of sight.

Following the cat tower from its base to its topmost perch, Watch Tower was designed to offer play on the bottom and a restful sanctuary up top.

The topmost perch provides a cushioned seat for cats to rest in and the circular scratching pad offers a place for cats to strengthen their claws and paws.

Detachable throughout, once your cat is finished rest up top, the whole structure can be easily dismantled and stored away.

Made entirely out of hardwood, Watch Tower was built to fit into any living room, with a minimal, yet sophisticated design.

Do you have any cats? Well, I have two and honestly tending to them can sometimes be a task by itself. Sometimes I do wonder, are they my pets or am I theirs? I spend most of my time running around and catering to their catty needs, but besides their nitty picky attitude, I do love them to death. If you love your cats as much as I love mine, I’m sure you’d like to add a few tidbits in your home that they could play with, rest on or simply have a gala time with. So, we’ve curated a bunch of cat-friendly furniture that your cats and you will love!

In all the desk designs I’ve seen over the years, this is a first for me! It’s called ‘Ascend’ and it’s been created by Dan Devine for all the cat ladies and fellas out there. Like any cat person will tell you, the moment you give attention to anything but your furry friend, they’ll find a way to lounge on your keyboard or knock over your utensils until it’s back on them! Designed with this in mind, the wood desk has been crafted with multiple ramps and landings for cats to perch up and play. If you can’t fight ’em, invite ’em!

The Cat Flat has been carefully designed based on the advice of Sweden’s first cat psychologist, Susanne Hellman Holmström, who brought to light the 10 necessities apart from basic essentials that cats need for the best emotional and physical health. The needs range from scratching, cleaning fur, playing, discovering, being social, etc. and Cat Flat takes care of them all keeping in mind they spend most of their time indoors. Think of it as a hybrid of a home and a jungle gym for your cat.

The Circle Zero from PLUTO is a smart litter box that takes care of your cat’s business. Designed to be fully automated, fully enclosed, and exceptionally silent, the litter box comes with a completely enclosed design to provide a private experience. Sensors on the box detect the presence of the cat and wait for a full 7 minutes after they’re done to automatically (and silently) scoop the waste from the litter and store it separately while completely containing and eliminating any odor too. Once the waste compartment is full, you can use any bag or liner to collect it and throw it away.

The Gatrimonial bed frame, made by a company called CatLife, made this dream a reality. They make furniture that doubles as an adventurous cat’s dream. At first glance, the bed frame looks like a hollow base with circular entrances in each corner. It has plenty of space for your cat to stretch its limbs underneath your bed. When you lift the mattress, it reveals an elaborate maze to keep your feline entertained. The frame also has two sections with a splattering of tiny paw-sized holes that could either be peep-holes, or a little trap for unsuspecting paw swipes. Your ankles will not appreciate it, but your cat will love the hunt.

The designers with Build Tiny recently built and completed a tiny house called Cyril House, which was warmly named after the (human) client’s grandfather who loved tiny houses. The tiny house has all the perks we’ve come to expect and enjoy inside the walls of tiny homes, but Cyril House was also built for cats. You’ll find plenty of floor space for your cat’s litterbox as the designers at Build Tiny designed the bathroom to optimize its overall space so that homeowners can enjoy spacious showers and plenty of room for hygienic routines.

The Kikko Table by Renata Wites and Ada Brożyna for Labbvenn serves as a side table you could place in your living room or bedroom, as well as a cozy spot for your cat to chill in! The lower section of the tables comprises a hammock-like seating section, wherein your kitty can comfortably lounge about. The design effortlessly merges into your home space, while also serving as a pet-friendly piece of furniture.

This Cat Wheel by HolinDesign is an indoor exercise apparatus for your cat! Featuring a structure that resembles the wheel of a bicycle, your cat can run on the 47.2-inch wooden wheel, ensuring he gets his daily dose of exercise…which cats never do. Although I do believe, they would instead prefer to simply lounge about and take a nap on the wheel!

The CATSSUP Luxury Cat Furniture System is like an indoor playground for your furry friend! Usually, bulky cat trees tend to take up a lot of space in our homes, however, this furniture system doesn’t require any floor space, and can be easily installed within your home. The adjustable C-clamp ensures you can fit it onto any surface, including tables and shelves. It’s like a miniature amusement park for your cats!

The ViviPet Wood Cat Dining Table is a wooden feeding station fitted with two beautiful ceramic bowls, functioning as a personal dining table for your cat. This spaceship-inspired cat bed by CATSA looks super cute and unique! The CATSA Lander Mark1 showcases a precision-milled composite aluminum shell and a plush foam bed. It honestly looks really cool to me, and I wouldnt mind adding this to my home space for my furry friend!

This Macrame Cat Hammock by Maka Art Crafts is exquisitely crafted! Handmade from eco-friendly natural oak and cotton rope, the design is safe, comfortable, and meets your cat’s resting needs. Not to mention the aesthetically pleasing hammock wouldn’t look too bad in your living space.
