This Robotic Coffee Maker is designed to brew your perfect pour-over coffee!

Waking up to the sound and smell of coffee brewing after just a tap of your fingers might sound like you’re still dreaming. However, Bubble Lab recently teamed up with Swift Creatives in order to turn that dream into reality with a robotic pour-over coffee machine called, Drip. The app-controlled, fully-automated pour-over coffee maker emerges from the countertop as the water dispenser folds directly above your cup or mug and after just a tap, the water stream matches the flow of the beans and adheres to your chosen recipe, resulting in the perfect pour-over, every time. Whether you’re a barista who could use some extra pairs of hands or someone who just loves coffee, this sleek take on the pour-over is sure to leave your mouth watering.

Drip’s modern, minimalist style pervades the design, all the way down to the core of the machine. Specifically designed to optimize counter space, Drip could be mistaken for a sink tap. But it’s more like an iceberg: the coffee maker’s slim body that makes the show possible rests just below the counter. The body provides the dispenser with tempered water ideal for a pour-over. Drip is also user-adjustable and the associated app provides a social platform to share, learn, and curate your own menu based on preexisting, barista-approved, recipes. With its glossy, unobtrusive finish, from all angles Drip brings a sense of know-how and modernity to every kitchen and coffee shop.

Since its showcase at CES in 2018, Drip has made some fine-tuned adjustments, specifically in regard to Drip’s elemental simplicity. Beijing-based Bubble Lab reinvigorates coffee as an experience by celebrating the culture, production, and social significance of the drink. Bubble Lab might believe that less is more, but folded inside of that simplicity is an intricacy devoted to celebrating the experience of coffee,  providing an extra set of hands for overwhelmed baristas, and showcasing the side of coffee that’s sometimes overlooked: the artful and ritualistic nature that makes your nose wiggle with excitement and taste buds tingle with anticipation. All it takes is a tap.

The primary tech providers behind the Genovation GXE Corvette, Stafl Systems, need an Industrial Designer!

The Genovation GXE reimagines the Corvette (an American icon) as an all-electric supercar with speeds in excess of 220 mph. They hold world records as the fastest street-legal electric supercar and in the all-electric standing mile. In fact, they keep breaking their own world records (nine times so far). And they partnered up with Stafl Systems to bring a fresh approach to innovation in the automotive sector. Since 2010, Stafl’s team has helped the top firms in the industry push the boundaries of technology and performance. Today’s advanced lithium-ion batteries don’t just plug into existing systems. They require sophisticated management systems that ensure proper charging and discharging for long-term, reliable operation. Stafl Systems has engineered world-class BMS(Battery Management Systems) products, intended to be integrated into a battery pack design, to meet these performance demands. Stafl’s team members have worked for and studied at the biggest names in electric vehicle technology (including MIT, University of California and University of Washington, NASA and more!) and they’ve joined the company because they want to be part of the pioneering work Stafl is doing. Apply now to be a part of this innovative and pioneering environment!

The Genovation GXE’s motors are fed by a 61-kW-hr battery pack that works under the direction of powertrain control systems designed by Stafl Systems. The cylindrical-style batteries utilize nickel-cobalt-aluminum/nickel-cobalt-manganese chemistry optimized for power delivery rather than energy density. Genovation’s latest computer simulations predict an EPA range of 175 miles!

Robot Exotic Dancers Debut at Las Vegas Gentlemen’s Club

Damn. Robots really are taking over the world. Their next target? Strip clubs. Two enterprising robot dancers are leading the way to this future. They go by the names #R2DoubleD and #TripleCPU. They made their strip club debut at the Sapphire Gentlemen’s Club in Las Vegas earlier this month during CES 2018.

I bet they did their routine and then everyone noticed that all of the CES gadgets on show had gathered around mesmerized. A rep for the club says that the robots are “set up on stage and electronically gyrate/dance around the pole, during which human entertainers will also be performing normally around them.”

No, that doesn’t seem weird at all. And are there any robots in the crowd watching tossing microchips at the stage?.. cuz I just wanna watch my own kind. Is that racist? Or is it roboticist? I have no idea. All I can tell you is that these robots are not sexy at all. They must be trying to attract robot clientele. How else can you explain this madness?

5 Highlights of CES 2018

LG Demos 65-Inch Rollable OLED TV

Last week we showed you LG’s latest TV that rolls up like a poster and now we have some video to share of the company giving a demo. At the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show, LG showed off their 65-inch rollable OLED television, and folks were appropriately wowwed.

The 16:9 screen can be remotely rolled down and stored into its base, and now we see it can stop at different heights to display different aspect ratios like 21:9 and hide those black bars. It can even display as a small strip to display the weather, streaming audio information, and more. The whole thing makes a lot more sense when you see it in action:

This design makes sense for a whole lot of reasons, the best reason being that a design like this will allow us to get larger TVs in our home and roll them up when they are not being used. That way they take up practically no space at all. I really like where LG is going with this and I seriously hope that they get something like this out to the market sooner rather than later.

Dell Release Jewelry Line

I’ve seen many quirky backstories for jewelry and let me tell you; The Circular Collection has far exceeded that of any I’ve heard before. The Circular Collection by BaYou with Love and Dell is a 14 to 18-carat gold jewelry collection designed by Nikki Reed and made in Los Angeles from gold responsibly extracted from used technology recovered from Dell’s US recycling programs.

According to Dell, around 12.5% of electronics are responsibly recycled globally. In phones alone, Americans throw away more than $60 million in gold and silver every year. Dell and their partners have a process for extracting gold from old computer motherboards that are 99% more environmentally friendly than removing gold from the earth. Aptly named ‘The Circular Collection,’ this collection of jewelry takes aim at treasuring the industry’s trash in the form of designing responsibly sourced gold jewelry.

The jewelry produced is comprised of ethically sourced Opal and in some cases, ethically sourced diamonds too. These gorgeously designed rings not only have a fantastic backstory, but they’re also creating awareness and making a difference. Reasonably priced, these rings are a great way to express how you feel about that special someone and how you feel about the environment – sounds like a real win-win to me.

Helite Hip’Air: Airbags for the Elderly

At first, I thought this was a joke. Then I checked the calendar and it wasn’t April yet. Turns out, this is very real and even though it seems a bit silly to be talking about airbags for the elderly, I suppose this is a really good idea. When the elderly fall, they break things way easier than we do. It’s especially bad when they live alone and can’t get help after a fall.

At CES 2018, Helite turned up with a set of waist-wearable airbags called the Hip’Air, which will help protect the wearer from a fall, especially the hip area, which older folks are prone to breaking. Helite has actually been selling similar wearable airbags for some time now, but they have been geared toward sports. Helite says that Hip’Air can detect a wearer falling within 200 milliseconds, and then deploy in an additional 80 milliseconds. This could be a lifesaver for older folks, and certainly could prevent broken bones, which often lead to further health degeneration.

The airbags have a built-in battery that will last a week. We can expect it in Europe this spring and in the US this fall. No pun intended.
