This titanium katana with a chainsaw blade is exactly the kind of bonkers idea Quentin Tarantino would have

Put this chainsaw katana in the hands of Uma Thurman and the Kill Bill franchise would get cut down to just a 10-minute short film.

Seriously though, a katana with a chainsaw built into the edge of its blade sounds a little like overkill… although it’s purely for aesthetic purposes. Designed and built by Koss Workshop, the Titanium Chainsaw Katana is a purely decorative piece, designed to be hung on walls and admired for its craftsmanship and (slightly sadistic) beauty rather than used as a handheld WMD.

The video at the top of the article documents Koss’ entire process as he builds this justifiably bonkers sword from scratch (with timestamps generously factored in too). The katana’s blade comes from three sheets of metal sandwiched together – two 3mm titanium sheets on the outside, and a brass sheet in the middle. Koss then affixes a chainsaw chain on the cutting edge of the blade, drilling holes in the titanium and riveting the entire setup in place. I doubt the chainsaw actually cuts anything (you’d need to swing the sword at whiplash-inducing speeds to actually slice through stuff), although it does the one job it’s meant to pretty well – look intimidating.

The rest of the sword’s made from metal too, including the guard and grip. The grip comes with exposed screws that hold the tang of the blade within the handle, adding to its raw aesthetic. I’m guessing you could unscrew it for maintenance purposes too.

Once fabricated, Koss put up this batshit-crazy sword up for sale on his Etsy page, where it was promptly picked up by an eager customer – probably a Tarantino fan… and now a person of interest on FBI’s watchlist.

Students Build Chainsaw Powered Tricycle

What do you do when you are a college student who wants to zip around campus, but don’t have speedy scooter? You do what these two Georgia Tech students in Atlanta did. They used their engineering skills to create the “chainsaw trike.”

These guys built this hilarious and awesome ride by combining an old chainsaw motor with a tiny tricycle. And so the Chainsaw Tricycle was born. After they built it, they took it out for a cruise around campus just for fun. It goes just fast enough, not fast enough to actually harm you.

I feel like there should be Benny Hill music playing with the video.

This Chainsaw Plays Doom

This gaming mod is called the Painsaw for obvious reasons. It is made to look like a blood-spattered chainsaw from Doom, but it’s more than just a prop. It actually plays the classic science fiction horror FPS.

It was made by a modder going by the moniker scar45, who used a Pi Zero microcontroller and a toy chainsaw. And a lot of paint for blood. The system features a 4400mAh Li-Ion battery, an Adafruit PowerBoost 1000 Charger, Raspberry Pi Zero and more. A 2.2” TFT LCD displays the game, and you can attach a keyboard or use any Xbox 360 controller.

The video looks like a grainy VHS tape and is timestamped Dec. 10, 1993, the day that the Doom was originally released. Wow, has it been that long already? It is truly a mod of doom.

DIY Chainsaw Blender: Drink Rising

Instructables employee Mike Warren aka Mikeasaurus celebrated Cinco de Mayo with this hilarious contraption. Mike went to great lengths to combine a chainsaw, a blender and a motorcycle throttle to create a drink mixing machine that would please Chuck Greene.

Put simply, Mike modified both the chainsaw and the blender such that the former can turn the latter’s toothed cap. He also connected the chainsaw’s trigger to a motorcycle throttle to make it easier and more fun to use. Because Mike just wants to mix drinks and not blood, he removed the chainsaw’s chain and glued a bicycle chain in its place. He obviously didn’t bother connecting the bicycle chain to the engine, so only the blender’s teeth will spin if the chainsaw is revved.

Head to Mike’s Instructables page for his full build log.

This Chainsaw-wielding Drone Is Powered By Nightmare Fuel

This is one of the scariest scenarios you could ever dream up. A drone is flying toward you and it’s carrying a chainsaw. You can run, but it’s probably too late and you will be cut to pieces. This nightmare is now a reality thanks to two Finnish farmers who managed to attach a chainsaw to a heavy duty DJI S1000 drone. Surely this won’t end in tragedy.

While this might have been an April Fools’ prank since it hit the internet on March 31st, that doesn’t make it any less dangerous. It also doesn’t mean that some other people can’t do this and terrorize their neighborhood. On the plus side this is useful for clearing lines and trimming remote trees.

The good news is that it doesn’t take too much to take this thing out of the sky. Just be sure you’re not standing under it.

Chainsaw Carved Wood Batman Sculpture: The Bark Knight

Artists who carve wood amaze me. It takes real talent to transform trees into sculptures. I would probably end up in the E.R. if I tried. I’ll just leave it to the professionals, like artist Thomas Earing of Seattle. He clearly knows what he is doing with a chainsaw. This wooden Batman you see here is proof of his skills.

The Washington artist makes wood carvings for a living, and his Batman is full of great detail. The Bark Knight stands 7 feet-tall and is carved from silver maple.

I love that he is wearing the old costume and is posed as if he is on a rooftop surveying Gotham below. I wish I had one for my yard.
