Star Trek TNG Bluetooth ComBadge: Beam Me Up, Siri.
We continue to get cool new toys to celebrate Star Trek’s 50th birthday. This Star Trek TNG ComBadge is what we have needed for years so we can communicate with our shipmates.
It has a built-in microphone for hands-free calling. It hooks up to your phone or other device via Bluetooth. Once connected, one touch answers/ends calls, plays/pauses audio, or accesses Siri or Google Now. And, of course, when you touch it, it plays that classic communicator sound effect.
It is perfect for cosplay too of course, making your costume much more authentic. It’s about time we had our own communicators. It’s coming to ThinkGeek this November, but you can preorder one now for $79.99(USD).

Star Trek Bluetooth Communicator: Beam My Wallet up, Scotty!
Star Trek fans who prefer the original series to its other incarnations, prepare to have a nerdgasm. You can soon get your hands on an original series Bluetooth communicator.
Inside the gadget is Bluetooth hardware and a rechargeable battery that allows you to pair it with your smartphone and actually receive calls and talk via the communicator. It will work with any Bluetooth phone and has a wireless range of 32-feet. The Communicator comes with a display stand that it clips to magnetically and also charges it.
The reason it looks so awesome is that the thing was made from scans of the actual prop used on the original series. You can pre-order the Star Trek: TOS Bluetooth Communicator for $149.99(USD) at ThinkGeek. The only downside is that it won’t ship until January 2016. Cosplayers must buy this thing.
OnBeep Onyx: Star Trek-Like Communicator Badges
As a geek I have always wanted my own communicator badges like the ones worn by characters in Star Trek – something that actually works and isn’t just decorative. Well, a company called OnBeep has a product called Onyx that could fit the bill. Number one, to my ready room. My fish needs feeding!
Onyx is basically a small, clip-on walkie talkie that you can wear near your face instead of attaching to a pocket on your pants. You do need a smart phone or mobile device with bluetooth and data access to run Onyx, but it is as close as we have come to an actual Star Trek communicator.
It weighs just over 1.5 ounces and is activated with a light touch. Just clip it onto your shirt. The first production run should get to customers in December. Once the technology gets smaller, I am hopeful we will be able to buy one shaped like the real thing.

Star Trek Communicator Dog Bag Dispenser: Poop, The Final Frontier
Dogs. They poop. Like all the time. They are basically poop machines on four legs. You can either be rude and never pick it up, or you can be prepared and carry bags with you when you walk the dog. This Star Trek communicator dog bag dispenser is the geekiest way to carry poop bags with you.
It measures 4 1/2-inches long and has a bone-shaped plastic clip for leash attachment and a rubberized molded zipper pull with the phrase, “To boldly go…,” a pad printed Star Trek logo on the back, and raised plastic buttons.
Carry it with you everywhere and clean up after your pet. Kirk to Enterprise. Poop to Beam up!
It’s just $19.99(USD) from Entertainment Earth, and will be available in November. Goes perfect with the transporter dog bed.
Gingerbread Star Trek Communicator: Eat Me up, Scotty!
Scotty. One to beam up. And hurry up, I’m hungry. I don’t want to eat my communicator and end up stranded on this alien planet. Yep, this is a gingerbread version of a standard-issue Starfleet communicator from Star Trek.
It comes from the author of Trek food blog Food Replicator. Indeed, there is a whole blog devoted to Star Trek food. Big surprise, nerds like nerd food. The gingerbread communicator actually sounds pretty easy to make if you want one for yourself. To make it, he cut out the pattern pieces on thick card paper and used them to cut out the cookie pieces. He then used royal icing for all the decorations and to glue the pieces together.
I especially like the detail on the speaker grill. It’s obviously delicious. Judging by William Shatner’s girth these days, I’m betting he ate a few of these in between takes.
