Converse Super Mario Shoes 1-up Your Feet
Looking for a new pair of kicks? A pair that will stand up to a bunch of running and jumping, kicking Goombas, and the occasional lava level? Converse has introduced a new line of shoes in Japan that are Super Mario-themed and come in two colors. One for red Mario, one green for Bowser.
Both are featured here, one has Bowser on the tongue, and the other has Mario. They look pretty shiny and awesome, though the price is ¥21,600, which is about $212(USD). That’s a bit expensive, but all of your friends will be jealous, so they are worth it as far as I’m concerned. The shoes will be available in Japan in August. We have no idea if they will show up anywhere else.
You can always import a pair if you must have them.

Glowing Star Chuck Taylor Mod Complements Your Converse
The simple design of Converse Chuck Taylors make them timeless. It also makes them a tad plain and boring. Adafruit’s mod will make your Chuck Taylors stand out by making the logo on the shoes light up. It’s not as amazing as having self-lacing shoes, but it’s also way more affordable than Nike’s loot.
The mod makes use of Adafruit’s electroluminescent panel as well as its small inverters. Becky Stern of Adafruit shows a couple of ideas for the mod – a star-shaped panel and a round one. But the black star in the round design is just a vinyl cutout, so you’re free to make your own design. Like a Swoosh or something. Actually don’t do that.
Skate to Adafruit for the full instructions and parts list.
Light up your Converse All-Stars with Adafruit’s DIY tutorial (video)
If you missed out on the L.A. Lights craze of the early '90s, fear not -- there's hope for you yet. Adafruit's DIY enhancement for Converse All-Stars takes customized kicks to a whole new level with the science of electroluminescence. To light up the star on your Chucks, all you need is a pair of EL panels, tiny inverters (like a coincell or AAA battery type), some common household tools and half-way competent sewing skills. So, if you want to add some flash to your footwear and become the coolest kid in school, check out Adafruit's simple tutorial, embedded after the break.

They’re made by Katie of PrettySneaky, and they’re available in a variety of cool pixelated styles. Current designs include Super Mario, Minecraft creeper, Final Fantasy and the previously featured Mega Man patterns – all of which look great.
Though I might not want to wear creepers on my feet, for fear that they might attack me and explode or something.
Each pair is custom made, and can be ordered in any size. They sell for $130(USD) a pair, and you need them on your feet – now. Be sure to check out more of Katie’s cool and geeky designs over at her Etsy shop.
