Oddbody Furbies Are Either Adorably Weird or Straight-up Nightmare Fuel

Furbies have always been a little creepy to me – perhaps it’s that I’ve seen what they look like on the inside that did it, or maybe it’s just their hypnotic eyeballs. Either way, they’re already pretty weird looking straight from the toy factory. But toy modder Plushie Couture thinks they can do better.

These guys make what they call “Oddbody” Furbies. In other words, these are toys with the faces of Furbies but grafted onto the bodies of other toys. If you liked Sid’s mutant toys from Toy Story, then these should be right up your alley. In fact, they made an Oddbody version of Woody, a Furby Woody if you will.

Other bizarro Oddbody mods include the Stay-Puft Marshmally Furby, the Lost in Space Furby Robot, Furby Barbie, and Furby Boombox among others. I recommend browsing the entire Plushie Couture Etsy shop to see what kind of Furby surgery they’ve been up to lately. Prices for the Oddbody Furbies start around $72.50, but that’s a small price to pay for something that’s sure to leave a long-lasting impression in your brain.

Treat Your Dog to a Custom Leather Suit of Armor

Depending on the breed of dog you have, they can look pretty tough all on their own. But if you’ve got a chihuahua or a pekingese and are looking to give your furry pal a meaner look, then may I suggest some leather dog armor.

Whether your you have a little yappy dog or a big old lap dog, Portland, Oregon’s The Kings Shilling will happily make your dog a custom suit of leather armor, fit just to their size and shape. Equipped with this armor, nobody is gonna mess with you or your dog at the dog park, or taking a walk through rough neighborhoods.

I like to imagine an army of dogs dressed in armor, ready to do battle against an army of similarly-equipped cats. Depending on the size of your dog, you could spend as little as $150, while armor for larger breeds can cost $600 or more. You can place your order over on Etsy. Now when is somebody going to make swords and battle axes for dogs?

Stained Glass TIE Fighter Lamp: The Empire Lights Up

One of the more satisfying sights in the original Star Wars trilogy was watching Imperial TIE fighters get blown to smithereens by the Rebellion. But this awesome stained glass TIE fighter lamp is one that I’d never want to see in pieces.

This beautiful work of Star Wars fan art was handmade by Russian glass studio V&G Fantasy. It looks just like the TIE fighters flown by the empire, with those iconic flat wings, and round cockpit at its center. The pendant-style ceiling lamp is made from glass steel, and copper, and looks like it’s ready to do battle with some X-Wing lamps if they existed. I particularly love the blue glow that emanates from its interior. All it needs is some kind of laser cannons and it would be perfect. Maybe you could rig some laser pointers up to it for added effect.

The finished piece measures about 18.8″ x 10″ x 8.8″, and is designed to run on a 220-volt power source, so you might need to buy a converter if you plan on using it here in the States. All this awesomeness doesn’t come cheap though, with this one-of-a-kind TIE fighter lamp selling for $750 over on Etsy. Of course, if you work for the Empire, you probably have a pretty good sized expense account for this kind of thing.

This “Fully-operational” Steampunk Dalek Is Ready to Exterminate Your Bank Account

I always wondered what it might be like if Doctor Who took place in a steampunk alternative universe. I think it would be pretty cool to have a TARDIS filled with gears and giant steam engines, and Cybermen and Daleks made from copper and brass. Well, one very talented Australian artist has created a life-size steampunk Dalek, and it’s pretty epic.

According to artist Vince Austin’s Etsy listing, this awesome Dalek is “fully-operational” – in that it can be driven by a pilot inside, and has a voice modulation circuit that can be used to communicate with the outside world in Dalekese. It’s also been rigged up with cameras and screens inside so its driver can see where it’s going, lest it exterminate the wrong person. Top speed for the Dalek is about 6 km/h (~3.7 mph).

This thing truly is an amazing work of art. However, it’s also as expensive as a really nice Porsche – with a $150,000 asking price. And that’s before the $2000 shipping fee to get it from Australia to the US. It took Austin about 6 months to build it, so it definitely was time consuming to create. As much as I’d love to have this thing in my living room, it would truly exterminate my retirement savings.

Floppy Disk Coasters: Protect Your Tabletop and Your Data

It’s been about two decades since I had to use a 3.5″ floppy disk for anything. I used to have boxes and boxes of the things packing everything from Microsoft Windows ridiculously bloated installers to various “warez” that I really shouldn’t have had in my possession. But those days are long gone, and pretty much all of my storage is of the solid state kind now.

After I was done using all those floppies, I thought they might make good drink coasters, but the moisture just got inside, and they scratched up my coffee table instead of protecting it. Fortunately, somebody has created floppy disk coasters with neither of those problems.

TechnoChic makes these fun retro coasters from old floppies which have been covered in vinyl, then backed with cork. Problem solved. No liquid gets inside the disk, and your tabletop is safe from scratches.

You can grab a set of five floppy coasters over on TechnoChic’s Etsy shop for $25. They’re also available in colors if you’re looking for something a little more vibrant

Pickle Rick Christmas Ornament: I Turned Myself Into an Ornament, Morty!

One of the greatest incarnations of Rick Sanchez in the multiverse has to be Pickle Rick, who appeared for the first time this past August on season 3, episode 3. While he starts off completely ineffective, Pickle Rick quickly becomes a vicious killing machine thanks the suit he cobbles together from cockroach and rat parts.

The first time I saw the episode, I immediately thought about how it’s a common holiday tradition to hang a pickle on Christmas trees, and how a Pickle Rick Christmas ornament would be a great addition to our tree this year. I then went on to completely forget about this idea until I saw this.

Telestic Design is making these fun, handpainted wood ornaments featuring the likeness of Pickle Rick, which will look great hanging in your tree alongside all of your other ornaments. I like the idea of doing a complete Rick and Morty tree, filled with ornaments of Mr. Poopybutthole, Snuffles the dog, Fart, Cromulon, King Flippy Nips, and the rest of the gang. There are certainly enough crazy characters out there to fill an entire tree.

The ornaments are available from Etsy for $10, but I also saw them up on Amazon for just $9.
